While thinking of small things to do while waiting for my PC upgrade, I realized I've built up quite the collection of characters that I can go back to. So I figured I could make some more Patreon exclusive bonus content really quickly if I only did one pose, and I used this as an opportunity to test Blender's other rendering engine.
For those that don't know: Blender has 2 rendering engines. The first pair of images were made with "Eevee" which is built for efficiency similar to a game engine. The second pair were made with "Cycles" which is built for high quality lighting, shadows, etc. The third pair was actually a mistake when I forgot to disable the clothes in the renders instead of just hiding them in the editor, but I let it finish out of curiosity, made a back view one for the sake symmetry, and threw them in as an extra bonus. Also, all of them are 4k resolution.
The Eevee images were done in about 1-2 seconds. The Cycles ones were done in about 4 minutes. Skipping over the math, a 1000 frame, 4k animation(which would only be ~33 seconds at 30fps) would take half an hour in Eevee and 66 HOURS in Cycles. So needless to say, I've been using Eevee for all my animations.
But if I limit these to only 1 frame, not only will I be able to make these very quickly, they can also be higher quality renders. I'm looking forward to seeing how much faster the new PC handles these, but Cycles is still very demanding, so I've no idea how much an improvement it will be, we'll just have to wait and see.
In the meantime, if anyone has any suggestions on poses they want to see their favorite character in, feel free to make one!
