JUNE OVERVIEW

MOON PHASES: June begins with the moon in the light phase where it continues until the full/dark moon at 3:44 a.m. June 11. The new/light moon returns June 25, 6:32 a.m.

When the light moon is in force, plant above-ground producers and it’s below-ground producers when the dark moon rules.

Don’t plant when either of the killing signs, Aries and Leo, is in force or veggies when the flowering signs Virgo and Libra rule since they are bloom days.

Planting when the fertile signs rule is a viable alternative to the VERY fertile signs, which are Scorpio, Pisces, Taurus, and Cancer. The fertile ones – just a little below VERY fertile - are Sagittarius, Capricorn, and Aquarius.

If you can only utilize one aspect of the system for planting, I would suggest going with the moon phases but still completely avoid the killing signs Aries and Leo and the flowering signs Virgo and Libra for anything but flowers.

EMBER DAYS: We have a trio of Ember Days this month. This month they are June 11, 13 and 14.

THE SIGNS: Check to see if the moon is in the light or dark phase (information above and on any calendar) before planting anywhere, or other moon-related activities.

FLOWERING DAYS: Virgo/bowels, June 1-3, 29-30; and Libra/reins, June 4-5. Seven days with the light moon ruling if you are still planting flowers.

VERY FERTILE DAYS: Scorpio/secrets, June 6-8, above-grounders; Pisces/feet, June 16-17, below-grounders; Taurus/neck, June 20-21, below-grounders; and Cancer/breast, June 24-26, below-grounders, 24th, above-grounders, 25-26. There are 10 days – a third of the month – ruled by the VERY fertile signs.

FERTILE DAYS: Sagittarius/thighs, June 9-10; Capricorn/knees, June 11-13; and Aquarius/legs, June 14-15. There are seven days in June ruled by these three signs. The 9th and 10th find the light moon in force with with the dark moon ruling the rest.

KILLING DAYS: Aries/head, June 18-19; and Leo/heart, June 27-28. There are four days ruled by the two killing signs during June – the absolute minimum!

PEA/BEAN DAYS: Gemini/arms, June 22-23, great days to plant bush or pole beans, snow peas or southern peas. At least half the equation is right with the bean/pea sign ruling even if the moon is in the dark phase.

MAKING CHANGES: We have seven days to make changes in June, down from nine in May as the number of perfect days continues to decline. They are June 11-17 with the signs going out of the body beyond anything that functions and the moon in the dark phase, specifically Capricorn/knees (3), Aquarius/legs (2), and Pisces/feet (16-17).

Changes might include starting a diet or exercise program, stopping smoking or other unhealthy habits, weaning small children or animals, scheduling elective surgery or dental work – anything requiring us to do something differently from the way we are doing it now.

POURING GRAVEL: If you have gravel to pour on a drive or road on your farm, do that while the light moon rules, which is through June 10. After that wait until June 26 after the new moon has settled in on the 25th, continuing through most of July 10.
