planting ginger

We had freezing temps for two weeks (single digits!!) and now it feels like Spring (mid 50s F). I took advantage of the warmer days and got into the greenhouse to plant my ginger starts. I ran out of clean trays and had to race inside to clean a few more. It was drizzling out! Very rainy here. Got this video to you a little sooner. Hope you enjoy!

Just do your research on ginger and know it’s a tropical plant, so it likes warmth and water, but needs good drainage. It’s a wonderful plant, highly recommend trying to grow it!!

The Naked Gardener

Oh no! So sorry to hear that about your ginger. Hope it’ll come back!!

I started lots of my ginger yesterday using the same method for future transplant. Since I had cut the ginger into sections u had let them dry and scab over to prevent rotting. I’m so excited about this ginger. I’m so impressed by how neat and organized you are.

We are in Houston TX, we just had our freeze, but it was only 2-3 days. I pulled 1 ginger to check on development and they were not ready. so, our ginger got frozen and the foliage was wrecked. I am hoping that the starts in the dirt will come back in the spring. We are already in the 60's daily now, so am hoping for a new spring recovery. My potatoes got wrecked too, I think I'll dig one set up to see if I should pull them or wait. I will admit, it was entertaining watching you run back from the house with the cleaned pots. Wish me luck with the garden recovery!
