this is like one of the best episodes in all of one piece so far, the feeling, the journey we have been through, the friends we lost, the animation it all commulating in this massive red roc to set off the fight against kaido. i cant think of any better way to have executed that start.

Steelt

ITS ABOUT THE 10TH TIME I WATCH THAT LAST SCENE AND EVERYTIME THE FEELING IS INSANSE

Genti Murataj

tfw you realise Yamato gave Ace the Vivre card that Ace gave to Luffy

SomeoneElse

I’m with you. The scene where it’s panning through all the moments that built up to this point had me in absolute tears not from sadness but from emotional overwhelm. The direction and storyboarding of this episode are what make it, to date, the best single episode of One Piece for me (excluding Fan Letter). Anything Megumi Ishitani touches turns to gold.

Kari McNay

I died when you said the only thing this episode was missing was ice oni 😂😂😂

MelissaM

@DiamonDust *sigh* I'm done with you two. It was obviously a waste of my time to engage with you. The first move was made by the translators/localizers. I respond to their bad decision, then get derided for "causing conflict" etc. etc. No, they caused the conflict. I'm rebutting it. Get over yourselves.

Waywatcher Fireson

he probably realized after that he could make Yamato say the same thing to Ace as Ace said to Luffy, not that it was planned since Alabasta but still a great idea by Oda to make her say the same thing that was said 900 episodes ago

Umar Baig

@Waywatcher Fireson No, what I care about is you unecessarily polluting the patreon comment section with this garbage debate after every video like a 5 yr old child who wants to get his way. We are not the same. It's one thing to respond to someone else trying to say Yamato is canonically trans to prevent the spread of misinfo, but you are saying all of this unprovoked. You are not dispelling anything. I know how you feel cause I also dislike misinformation, but you are literally accomplishing nothing. Have you changed anyone's mind since you started spouting this crap? It sure does not look like it. Plus you are barely having anyone read this to begin with, it's a small comment section. This is not the place to talk about this stuff, it just ends up being a toxic debate and taking over the entire comment section. Also as a sidenote including me in your "y'all" is hilarious considering I already established that I don't think Yamato is trans... did you forget that? Idk what group you think I am a part of. How are they supposed to translate it then? I think you need to open your mind a bit, because even though I agree that Yamato is not trans the fact remains that Yamato is ACTING as the character Oden. Oden is male. In that case, "he/him" pronouns in translation can make sense because it is ACTING, like playing a part in a play and using those pronouns while you are acting. The other characters don't fully understand that it is acting, though, or they play along with it, so they would refer to Yamato as "he" in english. Maybe people will misinterpret that as Yamato being trans, but I don't care. You care too much about what other people think on this issue... if they want trans representation then they can have it. This barely has any affect on the actual story, it's a dumb thing to debate.

DiamonDust

stop crying under every video

Blackest Hippy

I agree it should be authentically translated always. Hopefully I can see you comment all translation issues in the future since you care so much. Hopefully you know more japanese than just gender identity.

j

Jack the vivre card Yamato hands to Ace is the same one he gives to Luffy in Alabasta. Ace even says the same words to Luffy that Yamato told him, "This card will reunite us some day." (Oda is the master of set ups I swear) That aside this episode is a masterpiece imo.

Kitty3545

Anyways, sorry for putting so much argument into your comment section during the last several videos, Jack. Love your reactions and can't wait to see the next one! :)

The Otter Man

Ah, it would appear the guy being weird about the fact that Yamato calls himself a man has blocked me so I can no longer see or reply to his comments, what a shame that he's even afraid of discourse

The Otter Man

This is Chapter 1000 from the manga jack, so yes very very VERY, special! Its a celeberation for the OP story reaching 1000 chapters.

Artemis

Rejecting the way I frame this discussion doesn't make it less accurate. I'll gladly accept your offer to stop responding, though I'll be sure to contextualize your continued comments on Jack's posts with more complete information <3

The Otter Man

My birthday 21 march, that's destiny !

it's just from studying art and films. color theory is utilized a lot to tell stories or show the state of a person. some of it is pretty easy to understand like red being the color of danger, anger, or fear likely because of its association with the color of our blood while blue can be sadness, calmness, and peace because the sky during the day is blue and it's generally safe when it's bright out. conversely, blue or "cool" colors can represent death because the dead can only rest. you can see this when the color of a dead person goes from a warm skin color to an ashier gray color. essentially losing their fire. hell, even fast food restaurants use color theory to attract customers. ever notice how most signs on fast food are predominantly a warm color like red or yellow? this is because food is associated with warm colors because of the fire used to cook food and meat or bread which leans towards the warmer side. color theory is everywhere and it's interesting to see how artists utilize it in their work to affect the consumer.

PotatPengu

@The Otter Man I reject your framing of this entire discussion. You keep straw-manning my position because you don't want to actually look at everything as a whole (because you're married to your ideology). So, I'm done with you. And I will continue to inform people about the biased translations.

Waywatcher Fireson

The fact that you've resorted to "look at her massive boobs" as an argument is kinda hilarious, but mostly sad because that just confirms that you don't believe someone with breasts can identify as a man. And no, I very specifically said I respect your perspective, just not the way that you are attempting to misinform people by omitting important information. You say you care about giving people "the full context" while very carefully cherry-picking the limited context that suits you. And congrats, there was a single title card that said daughter. Doesn't change the fact that pretty much every gendered reference to Yamato that is actually spoken is referring to him in a masculine way, not to mention him directly stating that he is a man. You're also correct that as a child, Yamato is referred to in a feminine manner, because he had not yet established well that he is the son of Kaido. This is a nice detail included by Oda, but it certainly isn't confirmation that adult Yamato is not a man.

The Otter Man

easily my favorite episode. IMO nothing beats it.

wack panda

@DiamonDust You obviously care, or you wouldn't be responding. I'm commenting on every video to dispel the myth to as many as would hear it. Y'all had the dominance and censorship of disagreement for years on this issue. I simply don't care about the fallout anymore. So let me be seen as a "crazy person." I don't care. I care that the language is properly represented in translation. And it hasn't been because of ideologues. Sorry that bothers you. I care a lot about One PIece and seeing it authentically translated. When it's mistranslated to suit the Western world's broken worldview, I get a little upset. And I think you should to.

Waywatcher Fireson

@The Otter Man So excluding my perspective is fine? No. Screw you. Quit replying to my comments if you're so bothered. I'm going to keep making them because I care about people knowing the full context. We're at an impasse. You don't like my view because you think it's exclusionary. I think your view is *wrong* and deceptive. We are not the same. Your argument about a lack of "kanojo" is stupid as well. I don't even know that it's true. I have a vague memory the three samurai Yamato gets imprisoned with use kanojo, but I could be wrong. If it's not, kanojo isn't needed because it's obvious Yamato is female (look at her massive boobs). And after Yamato's introduction card, Oda tells us that directly. This is actually Kaidou's daughter.

Waywatcher Fireson

Nobody cares lmao, why are you commenting this on every single video? You're completely obsessed with the gender of a fictional character, it's unhealthy. You are def the most annoying person in any room you have ever been in, always pretending to be smarter than you actually are while attempting to correct people about things that don't have any significance. All just to stroke your own fragile ego. The other person even calls out how obviously flawed your argument is since you have proven nothing. At best you put the debate on neutral ground, but your ego can't handle that fact. I also don't think Yamato is trans, but I am not going to whine about it every single video. Grow up. If people think Yamato is trans, fine. If they don't, fine. It is open to interpretation. Canoncially speaking we have no clear cut answer if Yamato is trans or not. I think evidence points to Yamato not being trans, but it's not definitive evidence at all. Even if there were definitive evidence, you are commenting this completely unprovoked. Nobody is talking about Yamato's gender except you... you come across like some crazed idiot who lies awake at night angry about people saying Yamato is trans.

DiamonDust

Wow, that's amazing if it is indeed intentional. What a random piece of knowledge, how tf did you notice this? Common media trope?

DiamonDust

That's just what Oda wants you to think... until he kills someone and rips our hearts out lmao. Ace was such a major character and yet he died, so basically nobody except the Straw Hats themselves have any sort of "plot armor".

DiamonDust

One of the all time best episodes of One Piece for me... so damn good. Jack, idk if you noticed this specific reveal but but the small piece of Ace's iconic vivre card that Luffy carried around with him everywhere was made by Yamato. If it was not for Yamato, Luffy would have never had Ace's vivre card to begin with. It is a pretty crazy thing to think about how much Yamato impacted the story.

DiamonDust

I've said so many times my issue with you isn't your interpretation of a character, because this is an art form so you may interpret it how you like. My issue with you is the fact that you are excluding and ignoring important parts of the language used in the show to try and push a narrative onto others. And who says Yamato has to look a certain way? He said he's a man so I call him a man. It's alright if you say otherwise since it's a fucking cartoon.

The Otter Man

That's ok, I'm not saying you have to think that :) I'm just saying that no third-person feminine pronouns were used for him either so your point makes no sense <3

The Otter Man

@The Otter Man I don't think a woman with giant breasts and overt sideboobs is a man. You're the weird one, bro.

Waywatcher Fireson

First time I watched this I was so hyped and pumped. Now I watch it again, and I'm in tears. I blame you Jack......

BrindleBoxer

Dammit I'm so LATE. Man just shat out three episodes out of the blue?!

Kian D. Johnson

Yay roof piece! (and Yamato uses so many male-coded terms for himself. You're still so fucking weird, go seek help) :D

The Otter Man

Seeing how Yamato met Ace and how that impacts what's happening now makes me care about him even more and sets the bar that much higher for this fight. The shot of Sabo, Oden, Ace, and Whitebeard really drive home the crossing lines between the times, it's one of my favorites in the whole show!!

chrisis

The part where Kin'emon breaks down and says "Luffy, can you carry the Land of Wano on your back?" just makes me cry every time. It reminds Nami asking Luffy to help her save her village all the way back in Arlong Park.

Tony

A TRIPLE?!!! Hell yeah!

Zamasu Yo

Love u, Jack! Thanks for share your love for One Piece.

Christian Blanco Amaro

I'm 43 brother, it gets me too.

Kaptin81

Every time I watch this episode, I cry. This episode is just so good. :)

Bowzettie

Love that the video started over automatically at the end and I could see the difference between pre-1015 and post-1015 Jack's composure and mental state

Log

Kinemon dying... does bro know... this is Oda man we don't do meaningful deaths over here

S W

As an almost 40 year old man.....i just cried my way through this entire reaction video

Gary Bloodworth

absolute cinema

luck64

Genuine tears & goosebumps I can’t even describe the feeling this episode gives me. It’s damn near spiritual

PlayBoi Bonnie

Me too, from beginning to end crying

juca120

And so, Roof Piece begins. (Also, no third-person masculine pronouns from Kaidou/Ace to Yamato either). :D

Waywatcher Fireson

also manga chapter 1000 title name was just "Monkey D Luffy" ... and chapter 999 with Yamato backstory with Ace was titled ... "The Sake I Brewed to Drink With You" probably refering to the Sake Yamato drink with Ace when he told him Luffy's Dream ... but!!! 🤓☝️ if you put both titles togheter we get... "The Sake I Brewed to Drink With You... Monkey D Luffy" which is also Yamato waiting to finally meet him🥺😢 and at the same time its also fullfilling Toki's phropecy and Oden words in his journal that eventually some pirates will come to finally free wano.

Azael Santacruz

Jack this anime episode was the adaptation of chapter 1000 in the manga! 🤓☝️ i bealive that's the main reason they choose to go this hard on this anime episode! Also it's incredible how Oda managed to also time this in the manga, it "only" took Luffy 1000 manga chapters to finally land a serious hit on a yonkou 🥹🥲 and stand against them as kinda "equals"

Azael Santacruz

If every episode of the final arc isn't as beautiful as this one, we revolt

SimStu

This episode always makes me cry…. It’s just a master piece.

Leslie Mena

what did we do to deserve this

CeoOfSects

Monkey D. Luffy!!!! The Greatest of All Time!!!! I'm so happy to see that you moved so much during this episode to the point of crying because I can relate to it!! I cried even after re-watching it so many times. 1015 is the adaptation of chapter 1000 in the manga, so that's why it got a special adaptation, it also feels like a milestone, because it is. One piece is one of a kind, and I'm glad so many people are witnessing such greatness like this too. Such a great story-telling, such great characters, such great world-building. Cheers to many more journeys to come!

the use of color is really nice in this episode. the red represents the past and blue represents the future. this is in science too. when you approach the speed of light, everything coming towards you shifts to the color blue while everything going away shifts to the color red.

PotatPengu

Only seen the thumbnail so far. I can tell it won't disappoint when I watch it after work

JayElJay

Absolute peak of an episode. Everything from the colors, the animation, soundtrack and more, all put together in one piece. Definetely one of the best episodes in the whole series.
