I mean they were literally introduced as two brothers in the backstory, so I don't get why people are still confused about them...

KappaPrideUwU

I mean, he hadn't even heard it from Big Mom directly to know that it was valid by that point. Plus, you can't even say that he was wrong necessarily to say the alliance was a mistake. Kaido just betrayed Orochi like 2 seconds ago... he would probably betray Big Mom as soon as he got what he wanted from her. It would have arguably been smarter for Big Mom to just let Kaido get taken down, and then she would have one less competitor. I feel like Perospero had the right idea teaming up to destroy Kaido who was a bigger threat to them than Luffy's temporary alliance was. Or better yet, they should have just stayed uninvolved in this war and then attacked whoever won right after.

DiamonDust

To be completely fair, Kanjuro just betrayed them all which would fuel the mistrust she feels and Kanjuro has the ability to create an imposter like Luffy vouching for Yamato. Also, she probably has general mistrust of pirates thanks to Kaido. I understand the perspective of Shinobu. In fact, you should blame Yamato if you want to blame someone. Shinobu was ready to trust Yamato until Yamato started yapping about being Oden. I will criticize Shinobu for blaming the heart pirates for the leak, but here her actions are understandable. Imagine if it was Kanjuro, then people would say "Shinobi is in idiot, she should have known it was Kanjuro!".

DiamonDust

There are free samurai, they are just called ronin. I don't think it has much to do with pirates vs samurai (even though pirates are usually more free), but rather the circumstances of the situation. Oden himself was more of a pirate than a Samurai to begin with, and the same goes for Izo at this point. The Akazaya want to fulfill Oden's dream and also protect Wano, where as Marco does not really have anything like that in relation to Whitebeard. Marco was told to protect Ace and Luffy during Marineford, and he at least protected Luffy, but now he is free and protects Luffy of his own will. He also protects Wano in honor of Oden of his own free will. TBH the difference is really not that large. Samurai can claim that it is duty, but to them Oden was family and they would protect Wano whether they were asked to or not. It is similar to Marco. I think they are all free. The Akazaya don't hold Oden's words like they are orders, but rather a dream from someone they love.

The sound of kaido's blast breath is actually from Dragon ball lol

@The Otter Man Incorrect. Many fictional females use 'boku,' usually tomboys (who are girls, btw, lol). Yamato using boku for herself goes along with how she was raised as a boy, and such a trope is common in Japanese literature. Boku doesn't automatically convey a claimed sex/gender. The word itself comes from a word for a humble servant. That principle can apply to male or female. It just tends to be the most common among young boys or humble/kind adolescent boys. As a non-One Piece example, blonde Lunch/Launch from Dragon Ball uses the much more overt 'ore' (masculine, informal I) and she's not considered male or a man by anyone. You're ignoring clear trends in fiction to cling to your belief Yamato is somehow trans. As a strange twist in your case, Kikunojo uses an overtly masculine personal pronoun "sessha," which we see Momo using in the scene I translated above. It's a samurai term used by men. You insist on Kiku being a female while also insisting that first-person gendered pronouns inherently convey a sexual identity. Either its fictional flavor texting, or you have to give up on Kiku being female. I highly doubt you want to do the latter, so you must conclude the former. Some examples of bokukko or ore-onna: Yoruichi from Bleach, Jupiter from Sailor Moon, blonde Lunch from Dragon Ball, Sully/Soire from FE: Awakening. For some Japanese adaptations of Western material, Toph and Katara from Avatar fall into this trope, as well as Buttercup from PPG. Don't try to tell me all of these characters are men. Lol.

Waywatcher Fireson

but notably there are plenty of gendered first-person terms, in general, gendered third-person pronouns are more rare in japanese than gendered first-person references to oneself. And it is made very clear that with the exception of a single sentence in the entire series, Yamato exclusively refers to himself with either male-gendered or non-gendered terms.

The Otter Man

I get that, Nami said that before to Usopp too. Still, that's what an alliance is supposed to be. a Trust. If you can't trust the leaders, trust your leader. Like the straw hat to Luffy in Punk Hazard. They couldn't trust Law then, but they trust Luffy. If you don't trust the leaders of an alliance every single time, especially in a war like this, it would doom you eventually.

Gita

And as an aside: Izou refers to Kiku as his little brother (otouto) around 14:20 in 1004.

Waywatcher Fireson

For those curious: in 1003, none of the lines in the Shinobu scene have gendered third-person pronouns in Japanese (5:50 onward): Shinobu: 来たあああ~ (kitaaaa~) --> Caaaaame Yamato: 僕は 光月おでんなんだ! (Boku wa Koudzuki Oden nanda!) --> I (humble, boyish) am definitely Kouzuki Oden! 父さんの話を聞いてくれ (tou-san no hanashi o kiite kure) --> Come listen to (or hear) Father's story. Momonosuke: しのぶ あんなに必死なんだ (Shinobu, anna ni hishi nanda) --> That likeness (over there) is very desperate. 話を聞くくらい どうだろう? (hanashi o kiku kurai dou darou?) --> How about maybe at least hearing the story? ルフィも あやつは 味方だと言っておったし (Rufi mo ayatsu wa mikatada to itte ottashi) --> Even Luffy said that person was an ally. Shinobu: モモの助様 ここは敵の本拠地 (Momonosuke-sama, koko wa teki no honkyochi) --> Lord Momonosuke, this place (here) is the enemy's main base (main foothold-land). おでん様の名をかたる者など 信用するべきではないかと (Oden-sama no na o kataru mono nado shin'yosuru bekide wa nai kato) Should not trust someone telling Oden's name like that. Yamato: 僕は おでんなんだ! (Boku wa Oden nanda!) --> I'm (humble, boyish) definitely Oden! 僕は 君を守りたい! (Boku wa kimi o mamoritai!) --> I (humble, boyish) want to protect you (close, affectionate)! Momonosuke: 父上… (Chichi-ue) --> Father... (lit. High-Father) 少し話を聞いても… (sukoshi hanashi o kiite mo...) --> Even listening to a little (bit) of the story... Shinobu: モモの助様 冷静に (Momonosuke-sama, reisei ni) --> Lord Momonosuke, to calmness (i.e. be calm) あんな おでん様は ありません (an'na Oden-sama wa arimasen) --> That likeness isn't Lord Oden [Notice how Toei cuts to Yamato's bouncing boobs to clarify this, lol] Yamato: 僕は おでんなんだ! (Boku wa Oden nanda!) --> I'm (humble, boyish) definitely Oden! Shinobu: そんな おでん様がいるかー! (Son'na Oden-sama ga iru kaa!) --> How is that likeness Lord Oden?! Momonosuke: それでも拙者は (Sore demo sessha wa) --> Even because of that, I (samurai-ish)... (intention seems to be "Despite that...," or "Even if that's true..." i.e. Momo assents to Shinobu's judgment but digresses) 父上と もう一度 話をしたい (Chichi-ue to mou ichido hanashi o shitai) --> ...want to speak with Father one more time. Thank you for reading. Hope you found it enjoyable.

You gotta remember that as much as she respects Kin, Shinobu spent the last 20 years hiding and dealing with corruption and not being able to trust people. She's just going off her experience for the last 20 years. While she may trust Kin and Luffy, she doesn't know that Luffy has a very unnatural intuition and can correctly assess people 99% of the time. She needs to see that in action before she can trust it.

TzimisceQueen

I love that Marco's talks about their crew being free from their dead leader Whitebeard's words, while the samurai are still following their dead leader Oden's words. It's the difference between pirates and samurai. Pirates are free, samurai are not.

Måns Söder

These two episodes perfectly exemplify what you should expect from now on in this arc. Marco fighting Big Mom while talking about how Whitebeards death doesn't hold the family down all while Carrot finally runs into Perspero for the first time since Pedro's death. I's ridiculous to think about how Oda managed to maneuver so many different connections so effortlessly. And now we're seeing the animation being taken to a level never seen before, I'm extremely excited to see Jack's reaction to it all and the future of One Piece in general!!

chrisis

black maria is talking about the scabbards and kaido

pablo

Also Perospero thought he's in the Straw Hats that he can talk back and reason with his Captain like that. Should've trusted Linlin to handle it, she's not stupid. There's a reason she got this whole information web, underground leaders allied with her and only trusted her flesh and blood to be her main officers in her pirate crew. It's weird to me too at first watch lol

Gita

What I said too! It's Luffy's word and Luffy is one of the alliance's leaders, has a standing equally with Momo. His words should be enough rather than running around risking your responsibility to get killed with the obvious enemies. She's jumping into conclusion with Law in Wano and not trusting Luffy in Onigashima are both moments that annoy me. She only trusts the akazaya, while the Akazaya especially Kin trusted Luffy with all his life. If you can't trust your ally, especially the leader in a war like that, it would doom you.

Gita

For real, also he wouldn't know this but I'm pretty sure she loves and respects Kaido more than Perospero 😆

Log

Ikr like who did Perospero think he was talking to lmao😭 Big Mom may be an airhead but she's not stupid, if anything she's the best out of all the remaining emperors at building strong networks with other organizations/crews/individuals to her advantage. She knows what she's doing and Perospero should definitely know that

Tony

black marias song got me thinkin about one of the recent chapters

JayElJay

Perospero is such an idiot for not trusting his mom bro. Linlin is smart as hell, she knows Kaido is all brawn no brain and she would have been the actual boss of that alliance, she's one of the very few people in the world who wouldn't be scared of him

Log

For the record, this is the reveal that Raizo ate and used the Scroll-Scroll Fruit to pull of that insane reverse-jutsu; it's not just random ninja magic. (To think he could have been a mole candidate if his Fruit was announced to us early). It's very versatile, and understandable why he kept it lowkey all this time waiting for the opportune moment. I think that move wouldn't work on Kaido again though.

Veritas

akazaya nine ima let y’all finish but the peak I’m waiting for is about 10 from now ✋😭🤚

PlayBoi Bonnie

In case you're not aware, chapter 1000 of the manga is adapted in episode 1015 of the anime. It's actually the one episode where I fully recommend reading the title.

TheLegendOfSora73

i would be suspicious of it too if a woman who is supposed to be my enemy was running after me claiming she is my father. Luffy's word is usually trustworthy but you can never shake that feeling off
