A beautiful end to a beautiful arc

Wesley Owens

technically 877 is the end of whole cake island. The final Chapter ends with Zeff and Sanji. Not sure why wiki has 879 as being part of this saga, because this starts the next arc.

Artemis

877 is probably one of the best if not THEE best directed episodes in the series up to this point. The music Soul Pocus always gives me freaken chills man.

Artemis

as an older brother katakuri's flash back always gets to me

Nebby

Another one for the cry chronicles boys!

Conor Murphy

yeah i have gone full show up to latest episode not really thinking Zoro is part of it even tho it does make sense

Uselesskazuma

No he is part of the Worst Generation. Oda included him in the first introduction, in Sabaody, even until now. The part where Morgan listed isn't in the Manga. So it's just in Toei part. If we want to guess Toei intention to not include Zoro in Morgan's list is to show that he is luffy's subordinate and there's no way he would want to be a king if luffy wanted to be one. Killer and Kid's case too, but Morgan is specifically talking about luffy as one of the candidates, it'd be weird to list zoro in his speech that he said Luffy is one of the candidates and include his subordinate in the list too. However, zoro is undoubtly one of the Worst Generation, if you have catched up, you'd know what I mean, because Oda wrote it everywhere in the later arc.

Gita

Ahh you finally reached the episode i was talking about in the beginning of the arc!! I was talking about the soul pocus song which is one of the best soundtrack in the whole show. The direction of this episode is also amazing by Toei. Sums up this whole arc of children who was just wanted to live their life, expecting love and only gained nothing but resentment. Both from Sanji, Pudding and Katakuri. Even Big Mom as a kid. Whole cake has some the best soundtrack in the whole show. From BM introduction musical, Katakuri's theme song, "We Are" Reconciliation Ver, and Soul Pocus / Song of the Queen. Glad you are enjoying the arc, Jack! Can't wait to start the Reverie arc with big lore drops tease before Wano.

Gita

I knew you'd come around on pudding and break down haha gets me everytime still

luck64

Bro said “now run a sad backstory on that block of candy big mom is riding too” I’m weak 😭💀

Playboi Bonnie

Such an amazing and fulfilling conclusion, even when you think the arc is over it still continues to deliver. I'll be waiting for you at the Land of Wano!

chrisis

Eh, when comparing him to Katakuri, yeah, Oven is weak as hell. But he's definitely stronger than Cracker and Smoothie

SimStu

I always forget how amazing Whole Cake Island is. And episode 877 especially is wrapping everything perfectly. Germa, Katakuri, the Sun Pirates, Pedro's sacrifice, Pudding; everything tied together in the end with singing homies in the background, just like the musical number in the beginning of the arc. It's genuinely one of the best One Piece arcs and it's kind of sad that it's remembered by most for just the fight between Luffy and Katakuri. Anyways, it was a great journey. (Yes, there technically is still an episode left in this arc, according to crunchyroll, but this really feels like the ending of Whole Cake Island.)

NoSKillArts

One of most popular memes ep ;p

Sanstorm

Oven is struggling with Wadatsume and he got his ass kicked by a boat on land. He should not be a general 😂

Crow Para

Man I love 877 so much, I would say is on my top 3 one piece caps ever, they leaving, the pudding moment, jinbe, katakuri and brulee, and then the Ost is just cinema

I couldn't agree more with what you said. It's a fantastic analysis of some of the things that show us how much work Oda put into these two characters. Luffy (on top of his heavy parallels with Katakuri, which get discussed a lot) has gorgeous parallels and contrasts with Big Mom, in my opinion. They've both committed their lives to building and nurturing pirate crews that are, in a very real way, families (Judge has, too), but how they treat their family and what family means to them differs a ton, which has far-reaching effects on the well-being of them and their crews. Luffy loves his crew unconditionally, and while Big Mom loves her children, it's a twisted, smothering love that breaks under pressure and results in irreperable fractures in her family. They both have intimate relationships with food, and are straight up gluttons most of the time--but Luffy is able to overcome extreme hunger for the sake of his friends, while Big Mom lets the same thing put her entire crew and country at risk of destruction multiple times, with no signs of remorse. They're both absolute children, which includes being childishly determined to achieve their goals. Luffy's childishness usually works to his advantage and he uses it for good--to see past crap that may be clouding his judgement and focus on what's really important--and when his childishness *does* get in his way, his crew is there to keep him in check. Big Mom's childishness results in a lot of people dying and creates dysfunction in her crew and country. Also, they were both abandoned by their biological family at a young age, and relied completely on found family to bring them to adulthood, which has obviously turned out great for Luffy, and tragic for Big Mom. I guess in a way, just like you see Pudding as what Sanji could have become in another world, I see Big Mom as what Luffy could have become in another world (and vice versa, which is really sad to think about). But yeah, the THEMES in Whole Cake are absolutely insane, and I think this arc is an absolute masterclass in Oda's storytelling and character building.

Tony

877 really is one of the best episodes of One Piece in my opinion, the whole "Soul Pocus" song is amazing, the Katakuri and Brulee moment is good, Pudding's scene is one of my favorite (After all Pudding is my favorite character) and then the parallel with Sanji and Zeff at the end, it really is one of the best conclusion of an arc in One Piece I think. But I just wanna say, I really think that Pudding is a parallel with Sanji, and in some way, showing what he could have become if he stayed with Germa when he was a kid. Outside of the obvious parallels (Both liking to cook, being born in big families, having trauma in childhood from their own family, the fact they behave with each other in a pretty unique way compared to others) but outside of that there's a lot more. Like the fact that they both wanted validation from their parents (Pudding hid her third eye because Big Mom said so, when put in jail as a kid Sanji's first thought was about how he disappointed his father). You could also say that there's a parallel between Sanji's iron mask and Pudding's bangs in the way it hide something that ashamed their parents. Also a common personality trait they have is some kind of self hatred. They were both deemed as failures by their parents, and because of this, they saw themselves like that. In this arc, Pudding sacrificed her own happiness for the man she loved, both for her love to not be a burden for him but also because I think she hated what she did to him and thought he deserved better than that. On his side, Sanji has also the Thriller Bark scene with Kuma where he was gonna sacrifice himself for the crew, yeah I know Zoro did the same, but the way Sanji does it really is because he wants to help, and also because he doesn't think high of himself, another example would be saving Nami and Usopp from Enel and taking his attack or even when he pushed everyone out of Bege back in Zou, there again, he didn't want to be a burden and in both cases, he thinks they can find another cook just fine. But a thing which I always thought is that in a way, Sanji had an easier childhood. i know it's a really really hot take because what he had was horrible too, I don't say it isn't. But hear me out. The only thing is that we don't have a long flashback from Pudding compared to Sanji's because that would be watching the same flashback, but this time of someone else, which I think is why it isn't long at all. But one thing is that Sanji was able to go out of this toxic family when he was young, I don't know how old though I'd say maybe 6 or 7? And also, he had his mother, even if it wasn't for a long time, and his sister who liked him, maybe I'd even say some of the staff. On her side, Pudding had pretty much no one that liked her. Adults, kids, family, all seemed to not care about her. Except for Lola and Chiffon, but even there I don't really know if I can say they truly knew Pudding, because from the small flashback, she looked very young when she snapped, I'd say like 5 or 6, maybe even 4? I don't know if there's an official info on their ages in their flashbacks, let me know if I'm wrong. But anyway, I was saying, I think that most of the time she talked with the twins, it was through the actor she did at the beginning of the arc, not the true her at the end. And I just wanna finish by saying it's funny how Zou's Sanji and Whole Cake's Pudding both ended with a very similar thing. A smile before saying goodbye, trying to hide how they were devastated on the inside but acting like they were fine to the rest. This is already way too long, and I could add so much more, but I'll stop it. And if someone reads all this, well thank you :)

Nox_the_Xelor

This episode still hits me like a truck. I feel so for puddin. She breaks my heart so much. Thank you for this arc Jack.

Sceptic Llama

So hyped for this one. Lets go! I got my tissues, i am ready to cry some. Hopefully Jack feels it too. (written pre-watch)

Sceptic Llama

i'm fully caught up on One Piece and to this day i did not know he was actually part of them lmao

Uselesskazuma

This is just my personal opinion, but the reason i believe Pudding decided to take Sanji's last memory of them kissing its because she loved him so much that she doesn't want him to get even more attach to her, so he can be free to continue his journey with the strawhats, and dont feel "pressure" by her love, or even if something bad might happen to her, he doesn't "risk it all" just for her and put himself in danger "by her fault" ever again.

Azael Santacruz

Nah that's wrong

Umar Baig

I believe that was just an oversight by the anime but Zoro is part of the Worst Generation. To make it easy to understand, the Worst Generation is the 11 Supernova plus Blackbeard. The 11 Supernova are all the pirates who reached the first half of the Grandline with bounties over 100 million. It's not exclusive to captains and that's why both Zoro and Killer are part of that list.

Jay P.

Zoro is one of them, he is just left out here I assume for the viewer cause WE know he is 100% not becoming the next pirate king lol.

Vincent S Deluca

Jack crying while saying "Why am I crying" always gets me🤣🤣

Umar Baig

god, I forgot how much I love that final Pudding moment

hairy_spice

i wasn't sure but me personally, i don't see him as one even if he is basically like Killer

Uselesskazuma

No Zoro was always part of it. The Worst Generation is just a newer label for the Supernovas only if Blackbeard is included. The term Super Rookie can now be generalized to include older and newer rookies, while The Worst are set as being the captains named plus BB, Killer and Zoro.

Veritas

Zoro has never been part of the worst generation and that is, and this is just my guess, because he was a pirate hunter so they never counted him as one due to making a name as that and not pirate from the beginning

Sunday

Azzylito

whole cake top 5 arcs for me

eric

Jack, just to let you know that from the next episode (878) we are in the Reverie arc, even if stupid Crunchyroll says we're still in Whole Cake (we aren't). Same thing with Wano which starts at 890, not 892 like Crunchyroll says. Just so you can accurately categorize the content with tags!

ImZeaT

No 3 episodes or is it coming an hour later??

Umar Baig

Episode number in the title seem wrong. Edit: Fixed
