TRAITS

Legendary Resistance (3/day).  If the Dreadwolf Knight fails a Saving Throw, it can choose to succeed instead. 

Magic Resistance. The death knight has advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.

Ice Walk. The Knight can move across and climb icy surfaces without needing to make an ability check. Additionally, difficult terrain composed of ice or snow doesn't cost it extra movement.

Keen Hearing and Smell. The Knight has advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks that rely on hearing or smell

Snow Camouflage. The Knight has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks made to hide in snowy terrain.

Pack Hunter. The Dreadwolf Knight is accompanied by the spirit of a Winter Wolf (pg340 MM). This creature is treated as Undead and has the Magic Resistance trait and the Incorporeal Movement trait (See Ghost, pg147MM). Additionally, it may cast the Invisibility spell at will. Any beneficial magical abilities or spells affecting the Dreadwolf Knight, affect this creature as well. 

If the wolf is killed, it reappears by the Dreadwolf Knight’s side at the next moonrise.

ACTIONS

Multiattack. The Wolf Knight makes two Frostbound Greatsword attacks and one Ravenous Bite attack.

Frostbound Greatsword. Melee Weapon Attack: +15 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 17 (2d6 + 8) slashing damage and 7 (2d6) Cold damage. Additionally, each creature within 5ft of the target (including the target) must make a DC16 Dexterity saving throw, taking 2d6 Cold damage on a failed save or half as much on a successful one. 

Ravenous Bite. Melee Weapon Attack: +13 to hit, reach 5 ft., one creature. Hit: 11 (2d4 + 6) Piercing damage and 5 (2d4) Necrotic damage. On a hit, the Dreadwolf Knight regains hit points equal to the damage dealt by this attack. 

Innate Spellcasting. The Knight’s innate spellcasting ability is Wisdom (spell save DC 16, +8 to hit with spell attacks). It can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

3/Day: Rime’s Binding Ice, Wind Wall, Fire Shield (Cold Only), Ice Storm

1/day: Cone of Cold, Investiture of Wind, Otiluke’s Freezing Sphere, Wall of Ice. 

BONUS ACTIONS

Chilling Rage (Recharge 6) - The Dreadwolf Knight channels his cold fury, manifesting it in physical form, covering himself in jagged ice and granting him a number of temporary hit points equal to the damage dealt with his Frostbound Greatsword this turn. Additionally, this ability creates a 15ft. Emanation centered on the Knight, for as long as it has these temporary hit points. The Emanation causes the following effects. 

Rampage - After the Knight reduces a creature to 0 hit points with a melee attack on its turn, the Knight moves up to half its speed and makes one Ravenous Bite attack.

REACTIONS

Bloodlust. In response to a creature being reduced to 0 hit points within 40 feet of the Knight, the Knight may move up to it’s speed and make a Frostbound Greatsword attack. 

LEGENDARY ACTIONS

The Dreadwolf Knight can take 3 legendary actions, choosing from the options below. Only one legendary action option can be used at a time and only at the end of another creature’s turn. The Dreadwolf Knight regains spent legendary actions at the start of its turn.

Frostbound Greatsword. The Knight uses its Frostbound Greatsword attack.

Ravenous Bite. The Knight uses its Ravenous Bite attack.

Spirit Wolf. The Knight issues a command to it’s Winter Wolf companion, allowing it to move up to half it’s speed and use either it’s Bite or Cold Breath attack.

Spellcasting (2 Actions). The Knight uses it’s Spellcasting ability.

Monster Notes - The Dreadwolf Knight is an amalgamation of lost souls who have succumbed to starvation or the harsh conditions and endless blizzards of the barren north. This spirit of cold and darkness wanders the frozen wastes in search of warmth and life to fill the void of its eternal hunger.

Those who found themselves hopelessly lost in the winter months and survived have reported the silence of the season suddenly interrupted by the scraping of metal on stone as a large silhouette stalked them in the distance.
