Mantle of the Dreadwolf

Armor (Breastplate), Artifact, Requires Attunement

“Discovered by archeologists exploring a long forgotten fortress in the mountains to the far north, this breastplate was uncovered in a grizzly display in the center of a dozen corpses. It seems to be an ancient elven design, trimmed in wolf furs, ornate black plate, with a once beautiful cape attack to the back.

Despite several theories, no one is sure what happened in that room. All that is known for certain is that this armor retains the frigid cold of that mountain.”

While wearing this armor, you have Resistance to Cold and Necromantic damage.

Frigid Phantoms - Once attuned to this armor, two Winter Wolf spirits appear, following you wherever you go while wearing the armor. These wolves function as familiars, per the Find Familiar spell, with the exception that they cannot be dismissed and are unable to move more than 100 ft from you. If a wolf is ever more than 100 ft. from your location, it immediately fades from existence and reappears on the next turn at your side.

Additionally, they have the following features.

You may use this feature 3 times and regain all uses at Midnight.

The wolves are incorporeal spirits and do not need to breathe, eat, or sleep. They are immune to any form of damage but can be temporarily destroyed by a Dispel Magic spell cast on the wearer of the armor. The wolves reappear at Midnight.

Frost Step - As a Bonus Action, you may swap locations with one of your wolves. All enemies in a 10 ft wide line between your positions must make a DC18 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d10 Cold damage and is Paralyzed until the end of its next turn. On a success, the creature takes half as much damage and is not Paralyzed. You may use this feature 3 times and regain all uses at Midnight.
