"Are YOU in love with him?" "No, no, no, no.......Well, yeah, okay, yes."๐ This is easily in the top 5 most entertaining and funny episodes of the show. As Carly said a bit of lighthearted fun before the end, the calm before the storm if you will. Also great seeing Darla and Drusilla once again for old time's sake. Also for once we see Spike and Angel's evil personas in a more comedic light. I suppose in Spike's case that isn't so new, but usually whenever we see flashbacks to that time period they go out of their way to sell the whole "they were EVIL" angle, whereas here it's more a matter of "even soulless vampires can get Will Smith'd". As to the Immortal, the guy hardly sounds like any real threat. I mean he obviously has some power and influence, but he only seemed to be kicking them out of "his city" because they were causing murder and mayhem. Seems like he's not so interested in rocking the boat and basically uses his immortality to be a perpetual playboy. Bit of a homewrecker I guess, but hardly evil as far as I can tell. And yeah, the Italian W&H was fun. Love how the CEO kept saying "let us never speak of them again" regarding gypsies when she was the one who kept bringing them up. Regarding the whole situation with Fred's parents, I suppose that's one more thread they wanted to tie up before the finale. As to why they weren't informed, I suppose it would be had to explain why there was no body, especially if they came to W&H and say Illyria walking around. I can't say for sure why Illyria did what she did. She did say it was to prevent their grief, which she frames as not wanting to deal with. I suppose there's some truth in that, though personally I still think there's an echo of Fred informing her actions. I think part of her doesn't want them to have to deal with Fred's death because she feels some connection, though of course she'd never admit to that. Regardless of her motivations, I think Wesley was rather harsh, though I can understand where it comes from. The contrast at the end was also interesting with how Angel and Spike start talking about doing the same things to Buffy to get her away from the Immortal that they falsely assumed he had done. You almost expect Spike to say at some point "hang on, are we the toxic ones?", and Angel to respond "no, of course not..........maybe". Gotta get over it boys.
