Tigh could tie ties? 33 is one of the most solid series premiers you could ask for. Sure there's some cost cutting at play with a lot of the battle scenes from the miniseries reused minus the green nebula/gas giant/thing in the background, but it does such an excellent job selling how much the humans are up against the wall after fleeing the colonies. 5 days without sleep AND running your ass off the whole time is just nuts. They also managed to squeeze in a lot of character progression spread out among the cast. We see the evolving dynamic between Starbuck and Lee, how Adama and Roslin are dividing leadership of the fleet, how Tigh is stepping up as XO, and of course how much Six seems to enjoy making Baltar look certifiably insane in front of everyone. Maybe he is, maybe she's just a hallucination his subconscious cooked up to help deal with the stress and guilt. Destroying the Olympic Carrier is on the surface an easy decision. It was pretty clear that the ship or someone on it was responsible for the cylon pursuit, so it's either lose one ship or lose the fleet. Still, that's 1300 people out of just 50k left, so even from a detached position of leadership, that's a tough call. Moreover though, I don't envy Lee being the one to down the ship. "I gave the order, it's my responsibility" "I pulled the trigger. That's mine" As you noted, the dialogue is is really tight and doesn't waste time getting to the point. There are many shows that talk about "I was just following orders" being a poor excuse for taking part in some terrible deed, but this scene really distills that sentiment into this pure statement of culpability and it just works so well.
