Not a bad episode, but like you say, a lot of the psychological thriller/horror vibes only land on first viewing. Actually felt really bad for Carson here, and it always shocks me that the guy who got blasted into mincemeat lived but the guy with the shoulder wound died. I actually wish they'd have used this to show us one of Teyla's memories being used against her, maybe swap her role with Ronon since there's nothing new in him being chased by a wraith. Rodney thinking nothing is working and Beckett having no idea if his patients are alive or dead were great, and learning about Sheppard's past in Afghanistan was good, and even seeing that one of the guys had some PTSD from sounds like S7 of SG1 was a nice tie in, but we learned nothing from Ronon thinking Sheppard is a wraith. Could have been some interesting backstory for Teyla instead. I have one really big issue with this episode though. Atlantis should have sent a jumper through to get the team. I mean they managed to get a UAV through the trees into the air, and while obviously that UAV is way smaller than a jumper, we also got a shot of the opening in front of the gate, and it's about the same size as the gate room on Atlantis, so plenty of room to at least hover. Even if you argue the tree cover is too dense to get out of the clearing(and cmon, those things could no doubt just smash through the lighter branches) they could land, pick up the team and the dead, dial Atlantis while out of the way of the event horizon, and get everyone who needed medical care back a lot sooner.

2022-10-02 09:55:23 +0000 UTCNot a bad one! Loved seeing one of John's experiences from his past.. fleshes him out a bit more. We'd heard he had problems before with disobeying orders and sort of just taking things into his own hands, and we get to see one of those situations where he did that here.. even if he ended up not saving the guy. Probably wasn't entirely accurate, as I'm assuming the device sort of morphed an experience he had around the situation happening on the planet. I was 17 when 9/11 happened, so.. sadly a lot of my friends from high school enlisted basically right after graduation. A lot of them never came back, either from staying in service and being moved around or from just.. not making it back like his friend there. So I always kind of think of that in the back of my mind when I see John's hallucination here. Was fun to hear of the Prometheus again and to see the super soldiers though! Until the guy blew himself up, I mean.
