I really feel like the best precaution would have been to use the alpha site. evacuate all nonessential personnel, and maybe just for good measure send Prometheus there to collect their F302s and beam up the stargate. Nowhere to try and escape to.

Given the Ori, it's pretty clear the ancients achieved ascension by simply being evolved enough, and are now gatekeeping by imposing the "pure of heart" aspect. But then, again given the Ori, it's hard to blame them. Also mostly it was Oma helping people ascend, and especially after Anubis, the only reason they let her keep going is because as Anubis said "for the most part she's brought good people onboard", and I'm sure the Ancients want to keep a numerical advantage over the Ori. What I hate though is how many shows i the 90s and 2000s used that stupid "we only use 5-10% of our brain capacity" BS. It implies that most of the brain is just never used, when in fact pretty much all of it is at one time or another. Different areas for different tasks. The brain uses a lot of energy, burns a lot of calories, and if we only needed 5-10% of it, evolution would have cut it down to size a long time ago.

This was a good one. The actor for Khalek was good at being creepy. Hindsight's 20/20 so I have no idea what I would do if in the position in the beginning to make a decision regarding what to do with him. I think my natural curiosity though would have wanted to side with Woolsey, sadly, and I would've ended up getting people killed if I'm being honest, lol. But we did learn some interesting stuff about ascension! Can't wait for SGA! And Happy Mother's Day to any mamas on the Patreon and to your mama too Faily! 💕

I am actually on Woolsey's side here, they definitely needed to learn more, especially since they now have the Priors to deal with. They should have had all those precautions from the beginning, but I can't blame Woolsey. Otherwise, we did learn a lot about Ascencion in this episode. While there is a spiritual comoponent to Ascend if being aided by an Ascended being, it's not required, there is a way to Science it up, but it requires a more evolved human, down the evolutionary path, which can either be achieved by time, and evolving over thousands of years, or, even gene manipulation to advance the human form up enough that eventually, it peaks out and then has to Ascend. They gave a number here in this episode, not sure if you caught it, but the point at which the brain is advanced enough to ascend is around 90% of their cerebral capacity, then they can learn to Ascend naturally on their own.
