I'm pretty sure Tony Todd is still alive. Are you confusing him with Sidney Poitier who died earlier this year? Mitchel calls Jolan "Bones" in reference to the Star Trek episode: Amok Time in which due to some ancient Vulan bullshit, Spock has to fight Kirk to the death in ritual combat. Bones gives Kirk a drug to make him appear to die fooling everyone including Spock.

That was indeed the cigarette smoking man. It's cool that Mitchell got some training with the Sodan. Maybe he'll be a little better at hand-to-hand combat in the future.

2022-04-30 18:15:17 +0000 UTCStill so weird seeing Teal'c going on off world missions without his staff weapon, even after all these years since this episode first aired...

2022-04-30 16:51:58 +0000 UTCThis episode was pretty heavily inspired by The Last Samurai, which actually worked out really well as a vehicle to dig into Mitchell's character a bit more. It's smart of them to waste no time developing his character being thrown in so late in the series. Tony Todd is such a sci fi legend, always great to see him pop up. You had me worried for a bit there saying he'd died. And yes, that is indeed the actor for Cancer Man from XF playing the prior. Also Volnek and Jolan were actually played by real life brothers. The sodan have not been mentioned before now. They're definitely the most formidable group of jaffa we've seen so far. Those cloaks are OP, imagine an SG team with a few of those? Also their staff weapons are kind of like the carbine version of the original ones. Seems to be a bit less powerful, but a lot less unwieldy. Still, there don't seem to be enough of them to make them a major player, at least in the traditional sense. Always liked this episode, both for the exploration of Mitchell's character, and for creating a very distinct group of jaffa. Frickin Walter though. "I would never do that, sir"š¤£. Lastly Cameron calling Jolan "Bones" is a reference to a very specific episode of the original Star Trek series.
