2022-01-11 15:17:45 +0000 UTCBroke is such a brilliant episode. So much fun to watch. It's also such a textbook example of a defining difference of US and UK writing for the leading character. Michael displaying just enough of that American trope, of the fast talking guy emboldened with just enough smarts to enable him to come out on top. But David being the constant and unrelenting failure. Something that is unforgivingly deployed no matter how uncomfortable it can be to watch. An element that goes much further back than the original creation of The Office. That cringe comedy does still remain for the US copy, but in a milder and more infrequent form. By this point the two are incomparable.
