I think that most shows take inspiration from previous shows. Especially more recent ones. Writers of sci-fi tend to watch a lot of sci-fi. Their muse is often their rival. But its all about style choices. Do you like Avatar or dances with wolves? Same plot very very different product. Inspiration and direct copying are very different. And tropes tend to muddy the water. Writing for a show with a limited cast has different parameters than writing short individual concepts that can usually be more unique like black mirror. You gotta work a formula that works sometimes. Its all long division with different numbers.
