The problem with disregarding the laser designated missiles would be that even though the SGC is a top secret organization in the US military, they're still IN the US military, and as much as it already costs to run, devising custom weaponry for such a mundane (relatively) purpose would be rather wasteful IMHO. Simply using normal military hardware would be much easier and cheaper, which limits them to either GPS or laser designated missiles, and since there's no GPS constellation around the planet in question, that leaves them with the laser painted missiles

I especially liked the way Daniel caught the audience up to the current issues at the beginning of the episode. The wedding drama was also a lot of fun. Rya’c is all grown up. Would he be 19 right now? In any case he still looks way too small next to Teal’c. I know it must be difficult to find another actor that size but you’d expect any child of Teal’c’s to be pretty big. They really need a longer acting version of Tretonin. Imagine how dangerous it would be to have an entire civilization so dependent on one medication that any disruption in supply, even for a few days, could kill off thousands or even millions. The show has really abandoned protective gear at this point. Teal’c is going offworld with his arms bared [I get wanting to show the muscles, but still] and except Bra’tac nobody is wearing helmets. The laser pointer seems completely unnecessary. They have the video from when the drone went through. All they need is to calculate the distance from the launch platform to the gate on earth, then the route from the gate on the planet to the target. That way the rockets fly directly at the target without giving the Jaffa time and opportunity to shoot down the rockets as they fly up then back down again.
