I find this episode incredibly cringy. The comic book superhero stuff they have Teal’c do, the relationship with Christa, even Sam’s relationship drama. It all felt very cringy. The Christa romance plot also didn’t make much sense. Last we heard, “Ishta is well”. What happened to their relationship? Why is he moving to his own place on earth instead of with Ishta on some other planet? Teal’c finally being allowed to live outside the SGC after spending over 8 years on earth is a sort of graduation, yet that only emphasizes how little he has progressed. He still doesn’t use contractions while everyone around him does all the time, he still speaks very formally for no reason and in general I don’t think his understanding of earth culture has advanced much since the early seasons. I think this episode also emphasizes how little we know about the society Teal’c came from. We don’t even know if they have money or who grows their food. Are there Jaffa farmers? The only part of the episode which I thought was okay was the Trust part. Obviously they’re still around and still believe they can somehow do a better job defending the planet, or at least better line their pockets while doing it. Their actions in this episode are obviously a set up for future events, likely involving some technology left over from Anubis [we know he stole Asgard beaming technology from Thor’s mind].

I absolutely adore this episode - no shame or guilt necessary. <3

That would be over half the show at this point, so no

Previous episode.... Teal'c "I play Def Jam Vendetta!" Next episode he lays some dudes out in the street like something out of a street fighting computer game. 🤣 (And as previously stated in the episodes comments, he voiced a character for that game.)

I do enjoy this one a fair bit but it always felt like two different great episodes mashed into one mostly good episode.

Yeah, like I said I figure she was more asking about them, it's more where I think Jack went with it in his head, considering she was just talking about what she'd do if she had a kid. And yeah, I always found the writing in this season to be a little....directionless. At least a lot of the time. The back half has great stuff, obviously.

I guess it’s all up for interpretation but I never thought Sam was asking Jack about him having kids/Charlie being alive “if things had been different”, I’ve always thought that there was a pretty significant pause between that line of questioning and then her asking “what about you?”… I don’t know, it might just be me but it seemed pretty clear that she was talking about “them” and his response “I wouldn’t be here” is purposely ambiguous, either because he would have retired and would, therefore, quite literally not be there (at the SGC) or because, as they’ve seen in all of the alternate realities where they’re together, he’d more than likely be dead lol like I said though, it depends on your interpretation of the scene, I just personally don’t think Sam would be that cold/cruel to put that sort of question to Jack knowing how he feels about kids/losing Charlie, it would be a bit OOC, but if you ask me that would also be fairly congruent with the writing of her character lately, I mean, even Amanda Tapping disagreed with a number of the creative choices regarding her character this season, but particularly making out with Pete whilst she’s still on duty, talk about unprofessional lmao

The lovely Erika Durance, she shows up in another, um, Super, show I love. She's quite good looking, and a great actress. This ep is a fan favorite, and a favorite of mine, I like that it takes place mostly outside of the SGA, it's an all on Earth episode, and it deals with Teal'c in the real world, so that is fun to see. The Trust, is this groups name, and it seems they just got a power up with the symbols being revealed.

"Guilty pleasure" is pretty much how I'd describe this episode as well. Too much CW-esque drama. Also at this point in the series, I don't feel the whole "shady civilian organization that claims to just be doing what it takes to defend the planet" shtick is wearing thin. I mean the SGC has saved Earth how many times? They've acquired the tech to build an interstellar battlecruiser and several squadrons of starfighters. This isn't Shades of Grey where they're hunting for scraps of anti grav tech. The idea is just outdated at this point in the show, which is why I mostly find the Trust extremely boring. There are some fun moments with Teal'c off base. The avocado scene is legendary, and the opener is pretty cool too. Also I was watching a Gears 2 playthrough last night and it dawned on me that Teal'c is kind of built like a Gears of War character, as ridiculously stocky as they tend to be. Also that scene where Doug says "don't think I don't know what's been going on around here. She told me everything", I always though it would be hilarious if Teal'c responded with "I have indeed been laying a significant amount of pipe", and of course being Teal'c he means it completely literally, but it still sets Doug off. There are some questions raised at the end, namely where did the trust guys go. They wanted ancient translated to goa'uld, and shortly after an asgard beam whisked them away. Did they interface with and beam up to a piece of one of Anubis' ships? Guess we'll see. And that frickin piano theme! Been a while, that one pianist has been on standby so long that as soon as soon as Sam started waxing romantic with Jack he was like "oop, here we go. Gotta give it 110%, don't know the next time they're gonna break this one out". Really though, Carter is way too indecisive here. Pete seems like a pretty solid dude, if a tad boring, and I'm glad they had him address the fact that he did essentially stalk Sam back when they started dating. The thing is though, Carter is only a few years out from 40 at this point. If she wants a family/kids of her own, ideally she's gotta make that decision sooner rather than later. Col. Dixon and Simon Wells manage to balance work and family, as to some extent does Teal'c, though obviously his relationship with Rya'c has been strained. There was also Janet and Cassandra. I suppose it would be more complex with both her and Pete working full time, unless he's willing to be Mr Mom(she does have the more important and probably better paying job). Then again Janet worked full time as a single parent, so clearly there are ways to make it work. I also think Jack's response to her question is interesting. When she asks "if things had been different", I'm not sure if she was asking about him being a parent of if things were different between them(as the music indicates), maybe a bit of both. However when he says "I wouldn't be here", I think his mind immediately went back to Charlie and reminded him that the only reason he got into the stargate program was because he had a death wish. If Charlie were still alive would Abydos have happened differently, would Earth still be around, would someone else just have accomplished what he did? At any rate I think in a way he's also saying that if she has kids, she might end up prioritizing being a parent over the job, just as he might have if Charlie had lived. Being a parent changes your perspective. Hard to know what your decision would be till you're in that position.
