I've always loved how Buffy handles the themes of growing up. The harsh reality of adulthood hitting, and how thigs like financial issues can feel more scary than the end of the world. how you change and grow in good and bad ways. Season 6 is a really good season I think.

2022-01-08 01:41:22 +0000 UTCand when Buffy asks if she's broke, Willow says "not yet, but..." implying what was left of any inheritance was being used for bills

2021-12-21 12:27:56 +0000 UTCThey directly say all the life insurance went towards paying off Joyce's medical bills. So there was no money by the time Willow and Tara stepped in to take care of Dawn.

2021-12-21 11:22:27 +0000 UTCwell, that's a lot of assumptions, but in all the discussions regarding the costs of the household, not once was it ever mentioned that "we can't cover all the bills between the 2 of us". There's no mention at all of either paying for anything. Add to that they specifically mention that the inheritance Joyce left has been burned through, indicating that's what's been covering the costs till then. Sure they're taking care of Dawn and using the house as a base for the Scoobies, but there's nothing to indicate they're making a direct financial contribution.

2021-12-21 09:38:51 +0000 UTCTara and Willow have been raising Dawn and paying for her food, as well as the utilities, out of pocket. We have no evidence that they're not paying rent. They have their student loans, probably, and are probably using those to run the household. It's weird to me that people assume they're freeloading somehow. Nothing about them as people makes me think they'd do that.

2021-12-21 09:30:11 +0000 UTCI have a friend who, when I showed her Buffy, *really* hated specifically Willow about this. She said she understood when Buffy was dead and Willow and Tara basically had to be Dawn's parents, but that once Buffy was back, it was just automatically assumed Willow and Tara would continue living there rent free and not contributing anything to household bills. She liked Tara but she never took to Willow and S6 was the point apathy and later dislike turned into hate.

2021-12-20 21:15:10 +0000 UTCJust wanted to comment and say thanks for the amazing reactions to Season 6 so far! I'm a long time YouTube viewer but I just signed up today after hearing how amazing your Season 6 reactions have been so far. Season 6 is absolutely one of my favorite seasons of the entire show. It's just so deep and has so much nuance and amazing acting. I've seen the show dozens and dozens of times over the years. You managed to capture so much of the multifaceted nuance of the season much, much quicker than other S6 reactors. I really look forward to the rest of your reactions here!

2021-12-19 23:00:20 +0000 UTCyeah, but like any job, if it becomes unacceptable, quit. For the most part they'll just expect her to do what she already does, plus maybe put up with some upper management nonsense. After she stood up to them last time, I don't think they're going to risk completely alienating the only slayer on call. At any rate, I'd say the need for money outweighs the risk.

2021-12-19 21:52:54 +0000 UTCI love the idea that she should demand money from the council, but, I would also worry that would indebt her to them, she would be like an employee they could boss around and control her because they would have power over her with that money and benefits. I wouldn't want to be in debt to them or owe them anything. So maybe not the best solution.

2021-12-19 21:30:55 +0000 UTCCertainly from S3, as it coincides with her drastically increasing confidence, she is less and less the character people get so attached to in S1 and S2. It’s written very well and escalates so gradually but who she is in this ep definitely hasn’t come out of nowhere and I love that

2021-12-19 12:43:24 +0000 UTCIt's interesting to think back to certain episodes, particularly This Years Girl, when you think about the damage to the house and Joyce being totally OK with it and bearing the burden. Also the fact that we now know how Joyce as a single mother, starting a new job with an unreliable ex-husband was able to afford such a great house in a seemingly nice area. You'd think that could have been a red flag for her. You could even make your own assumptions that maybe the Watchers Council had a hand in getting her the Gallery job so Buffy would be living near the Hellmouth. 😅

2021-12-19 08:54:23 +0000 UTCI've always wondered why Willow and Tara don't have jobs to earn an income and help pay for the house and everything else, until now they were living there rent free and not contributing to the income? At the very least they shoulda done it so they can help support Dawn, so I find the whole situation not really that fair. They should have jobs /shrug

2021-12-19 07:58:59 +0000 UTCWatched your reaction, thank you. So the issue here at the end is that Buffy is running away, or walking away from her responsibilities, now that Giles is back, believing that he will just take care of everything. Which is not the case, she needs to take charge of income, and bills, and taking care of Dawn, but she's skirting that stuff right now cause Giles is back to handle everything for her. She's still very disconnected from reality.

2021-12-19 07:54:30 +0000 UTCdon't worry I'm not gonna say anything more.

2021-12-19 06:23:29 +0000 UTCyeah, regardless of how we feel about Willow at this point, no shade on Alyson at all. She did a terrific job with all aspects of the character.

2021-12-19 03:30:19 +0000 UTCThe first four episodes of this season are still, in my opinion, some of the best depictions of clinical depression in a TV show ever.

2021-12-19 02:49:06 +0000 UTCWillow is a jerk through most of the series whenever it comes to magic or issues with her own self esteem(which often overlap because she uses her proficiency in magic to feel better about herself). Alyson Hannigan deserves a lot of credit for making so many people fall in love with Willow as a character...when she kinda acts like a terrible person a lot of the time.

2021-12-18 23:39:24 +0000 UTCI think everyone will agree that the confrontation between Willow and Giles is the best scene in this episode. Going all the way back to the first season, Willow was always the responsible one, the mature and dependable member of the group. The one you could rely on to do the smart thing. Even Buffy at times may have tried Giles' patience with her headstrong, reckless ways. As much as you love to see Willow getting a much deserved smackdown, to hear "you're a very stupid girl" in the context of their past relationship and how much they respected each other, it's like a knife sinking in. Add to that calling her a "rank, arrogant amateur" after what, 4 years of practicing magic, it's like twisting that knife for good measure. To be fair though, there are probably beings who've been practicing magic for centuries, and Willow truly would be an amateur next to them. I think though what's even more shocking to actually hear(even though we've seen hints of this darker side) is Willow full on threaten Giles. What you have to wonder if Willow keeps moving this way, is where Tara is going to stand. On the one hand Willow is her girlfriend, but on the other, I can't see her being alright with this. I also always get a good laugh out of the fight with m'fashnik, particularly how financially motivated it is. She keeps trying to move him to areas of the house that have progressively less valuables to smash, finally ending up in the flooded basement where there's little of value left due to flooding, and even then she gets pissed that he ran up her plumbing bill even further. It would be hilarious if someone edited the fight with a running tally of the financial cost floating over Buffy's head. And now we have Warren, Jonathan and this Andrew guy as these Bond villain caricatures. I mean, they're just losers from high school who pulled off a bank robbery so maybe they'll just get some sense smacked into them. I can see why someone like Jonathan would be drawn to a group like that, given how much of an outcast he is, but I find it disturbing and disappointing how casually he's willing to go along with trying to hypnotize and rape Buffy. I suppose there's some precedent with the spell episode, but that was more a case of artificially making himself more attractive than he was. This is substantially more reprehensible IMO. Finally, it really needs to be said that Anya is right, and it was really short-sighted of the group to dismiss her so easily. Not about charging the innocent bystanders she saved, that'd dumb, and many will likely be broke anyway. But think about it. There are dozens if not hundreds of watchers, all pulling presumably decent salaries. It's been stated that the council has extensive political and financial resources, and the can't afford to pay 1 slayer??? No chance. They're holding out. Now I'm not saying Buffy should make with the threats, per se. But if she sits down with Mr Travers and explains, "hey, I'm all for doing the whole slayer thing, but you see(pulls out stack of papers) these bills, they just won't pay themselves. And I can't really do my job effectively if I'm starving and homeless, not to mention I have a sister to take care of. I just don't think I have time to be a slayer, I really need to find a job...one with paycheques and everything. Now I know this puts you in a tough spot, the only other slayer being in prison and all, and I feel terrible about it really..........but these bills", well I think that could go a long way. Time for Buffy to sit down with head office and hammer out a proper contract. Full family coverage(cover Dawn while she's at it why not) for vision, dental, medical insurance, throw in massage therapy and chiropractor(given her job definitely something she could make use of), the works. And as much as the council would hate it given her profession, a solid life insurance policy. Last but not least, $250,000 salary, or she hands in her resignation. What are they gonna say? They can't even threaten to off her to wake a new slayer since the line seems to run through Faith now. Also while it might seem ungrateful after they brought her back, Willow and Tara are just squatting at her house. I don't think charging rent is unreasonable.

2021-12-18 23:37:31 +0000 UTCThe title for this episode is perfect, Buffy is "flooded" with the burdens of life again, and it's all coming at her at once. I'll post more after I watch your reaction.

2021-12-18 22:13:59 +0000 UTC"this is so sad but i love it" a sentence that perfectly describes this season for me personally.
