This episode always makes me cry when we learn that Teal'c never TRULY believed we could beat the Go'a'uld, but he still was arguably THE hardest fighter... Says TONS about his character

Sarah

Fun episode, always love it when they continue threads from previous episodes. I didn’t like the original episode all that much, but this one was good. Also liked the insights into Teal’c’s mind. Additional, more specific, thoughts: People in the simulation mostly seemed to just walk into the line of fire, not bothering to take cover behind anything. Made the battle sequences a little less interesting than they could’ve been Dr Lee is back being a generic scientist once again, this time he's a programmer. As others have pointed out, it did make sense to send Daniel into the game. Jack has a whole base to run and Sam's technical expertise might be needed in the real world. Also they probably wanted to send in someone with limited battle expertise so that they wouldn’t inadvertently teach the game even more tactics and make it harder. I guess you never know when you’re going to need an archaeologist. In reality, sticking a needle into the heart is a very bad idea. Simply injecting medication into a vein works just fine, the blood flow would spread it around. It’s a very irresponsible tv trope and I’m disappointed in Stargate for using it. I noticed that Teal'c didn't sense the goa'uld the way he and Sam usually do. Was it using that injectable drug we saw Kianna use in “Fallout”?

One of the best episodes imo :D

Le Wo

Thanks for teh update

Brent Justice

totally agree, though I would prefer the BSG Deadlock style where you assign orders and the player and AI turns play out simultaneously in real time.

Timothy Nikiforovs

Angel has a buddy? Good for him, he's making friends😁

Timothy Nikiforovs

Thanks for the update! I can go to bed then and watch SGA in the morning

Teth

Angel and Buddy rendering rn. Recorded SGA and will be up right after

Failwhale34

I just ask cause so far we haven't gotten Buffy or Angel this week, last week we got an ep each, this week nothing.

Brent Justice

The failwhale dictionary says Today: Sometime within the next 7 days Tomorrow: sometime within the next 14-21 days

Magus

he said today on discord, atleast for sga

aWkie

:-D that's fair

Stef Furness

He was Tommen's father, yes.

Stef Furness

Are we going to get Buffy and Angel this week? and SGA?

Brent Justice

I always thought that a better game for the star gate universe would be something like the x-com series, where you send teams of soldiers out on missions. You have a base you build up, various teams that go on missions through a gate in this case... combine that with randomly generated maps on alien planets and then you have something. :)

78stonewobble

I thought of that, but it's more fun to imagine Walter just keeps respawning in the sim

Timothy Nikiforovs

yeah that's a good point

Timothy Nikiforovs

That’s the guy, but wasn’t he the dad of the boy that is assigned to Teal’c, rather than the girl?

The self-destruct announcement could be a triggered recording.

One of the more enjoyable eps in early S8 IMO. It starts out as this fun "Teal'c plays a video game of his job" concept, then evolves into an examination of Teal'c whole state of mind regarding the fight against the goa'uld. It's pretty shocking to find out that Teal'c never truly believed they would win, at least 6 years ago, and seemingly still to an extent at the start of this episode. I mean they've killed a bunch of system lords, including his old boss, just recently wiped out one of the most powerful goa'uld fleets ever assembled, and Jaffa are abandoning service to the goa'uld in droves. Hard to believe he's still pessimistic about their chances. I'm also glad they did send Daniel in, because when you think about it, he's the perfect one to give Teal'c hope for victory. Daniel has arguably lost more than anyone on the team to the goa'uld, so if he believes they can be beaten despite that, it makes it harder to Teal'c to remain skeptical. Cool seeing the gamekeeper chairs back after all this time. Also Lee's disappointment when Teal'c calls the past 2 years of work a failure was priceless. I do have a hard time believing the military would use something they couldn't pull the plug on themselves though. I'm also noticing a lot of music cues from past seasons worked in here. When Teal'c tells Daniel that the game won't let him leave, we hear the same theme from when he went to say goodbye to O'Neill in Lost City. When he slumps against the wall and gives up we hear the same music we heard in Gamekeeper when Daniel's parents died as well as a few other places. Also that upbeat battle theme we hear right at the start feels like it's been absent for quite a while, like in the first 3 seasons. They certainly dug deep into their library of music for this one. Pretty good episode. Interesting concept, great action and directing, and we haven't really had a Teal'c centric episode since Birthright, so it's a good time to have an examination of his character. Also I just realized there's a plot hole in this episode. When Teal'c is in the infirmary in the simulation, they say Sgt. Harriman reported 2 Anubis drones entered the base before he was killed, then a few seconds later, we hear Harriman on the intercom saying the self destruct has been activated. Not so dead. Unless it was that other guy who looks and sounds just like him🤔. Norman? Sgt Davis? Anyway.....not important. We'll chalk it up to the same kind of thing as how Sgt. Johnson can seemingly die dozens of times in the first few Halo games.

pausing is the right thing to do... it stops him from talking over important dialogue. this was just an unfortunately, and uncommon, moment. Going back 5-10 seconds is always the best way if the reactor is screen recording... but if he has separate tracks that he has to line up during editing, rewinding can create an enormous hassle.

Bisibia

Yeah, I've always felt he should go back about 10 seconds whenever he pauses to give commentary.

Timothy Nikiforovs

I came here to comment this as well. By pausing like that you're potentially missing key pieces of information.

Chris Skalicky

I was waiting for this and wondered why it was cutout aha

brad hawkes

I like this one for the sheer fact we get to see a direct result of alien technology they found being used for a real-world and beneficial purpose, it's a great idea to train in VR since this VR is so real.

Brent Justice

And This

Brent Justice

This

Brent Justice

You paused at the absolute wrong moment but the answer to your question as to why they sent Daniel in is because they couldn’t risk the chair learning from either Jack or Sams military and tactical knowledge.

Jakob

The projection of the game we see on the monitors is actually gameplay from the cancelled game Stargate SG-1: The Alliance. The game got caught up in legal drama between the developer and the publisher, Perception and JoWood and ultimately was canned. To describe the SG fan base as salty afterward would be an understatement.

Timothy Nikiforovs

For sure - he was the main contact in the episode where Jack kidnapped Marin and took her to school to learn about representational art and recess. <3

Stef Furness

I didn't realize it but I think you're right. Wasn't he the dad of the little girl who created the naquadah generator? The nanite memory episode. One of those allies we've forgotten about.

William Sevier

Teal'c mentioning that he played Def Jam Vendetta was an homage to the fact that Chris Judge actually voiced one of the characters in the game.

James Yancy

Always enjoyed this episode. I think sending Daniel in was the right move. Can't send O'Neill in because he's too important to risk, and they need Carter's genius on the outside working on it, can't send a rando in because it needs to be someone Teal'c trusts so its gotta be DJ...
