You don't need military advice for that, tho. I've literally NEVER been in the military, but I thought it was just obvious logically speaking, to minimize the angles an enemy can shoot at you, while being able to gank anyone invading the narrow wormhole tunnel, so they have to focus on 1 side while being assraped by the other side(s) into the back (then again, I've played Team Fortress 2, so maybe Engineer combat strats have affected my thinking, since I used to gank so they have to focus on turret or me, they are dead both dead either way since Engineer can ez 1v2, even 1v3 depending on class + how dumb the players are)

2021-12-22 09:37:18 +0000 UTCFor all the military advice taken during the filming of Stargate shows, they really didn't put much thought into how to actually guard a choke point like the stargate.

2021-12-19 03:50:56 +0000 UTCFavourite thing about this episode is although Bates may be appear to be a dick, he’s completely right, Shepard’s struggle with learning the role of command and listening to those under him, I like Bates.

2021-12-16 21:54:09 +0000 UTCWell I mean, even fewer athosians would have that chance. AFAWK only Teyla and Halling have left Atlantis since, and I'm sure at least a few teams have been deployed, so more people from the expedition would have the chance. The fact they were suspecting all athosians even though most never left Atlantis tells me they were worried someone was using a communication device of some sort, which anyone on the base might have a chance to find in the city. Bottom line there weren't many people period that would have the chance to betray them to the wraith, and it's short sighted to assume it couldn't be one of their own just because.

2021-12-14 04:38:42 +0000 UTCThat would be a very short list of potential Earth-born suspects though. How many even got the chance to even go through the Stargate from Atlantis? Not very many at this point. Mostly some soldiers, most of them staying in contact with their comrades and not having opportunity to secretly meet with anyone. The even fewer civilians would have even less opportunity because they'd most likely have a military detail to protect them, cutting off their chances to get away alone for a while. The odds just wouldn't be very good, between opportunities to get away alone and even knowing where or how to get in touch with the Wraith. In that regard, Bates is on reasonably solid ground.

2021-12-14 02:11:54 +0000 UTCBates does end up being right to a point and John in the wrong. I don't think the episode is saying Sheppard was in the right, as we can see by Elizabeth's disapproval when he dismisses Bates. It's not the last time Sheppard gets talked down by Elizabeth either for acting impulsively.

2021-12-13 06:14:56 +0000 UTCMy one problem with Atlantis is that there is very much a " Hero Perspective Syndrome " going on. Where we're supposed to trust the hero characters just because they're the hero characters, even when other people bring up valid points. The Security chief here, and the one scientist arguing about the dangers of the shuttle blowing up before were both doing their jobs, and doing them well by bringing things up. But everyone treats them like they're the badguys.

2021-12-13 00:14:49 +0000 UTCCause there's only a finite amount of Jumpers. Once one is destroyed, It cant be replaced. Unfortunately The same cant be said for SGA teams.

2021-12-12 09:46:19 +0000 UTCPretty so so episode, definitely a big step down from last week. The season really takes off soon though. At least they captured a wraith......commander, I guess. He can't be there very long if they can't feed him though, so we'll see what they get out of him. This is also the first ep that's fairly Teyla centric, and we didn't know a lot about her before, like how she's an adept martial artist. Sucks that her relationship with her people has become so strained, but she's thinking of the bigger picture. At least the athosians volunteered to go to the mainland and seem to appreciate the challenges it'll bring. Gotta say though, while Bates was being a passive aggressive ass for a lot of the episode, he was mostly making fair, logical points about security and doing the job Weir assigned him. The one exception is his insistence that Atlantis personnel couldn't be responsible. I can absolutely see a scenario where one of the civilian contingent (possibly military) sees that they've arrived in a galaxy full of space vampires, that they can't go home, and that it's probably just a matter of time till the wraith find and get to Atlantis. They might figure feeding the wraith info now will grant them a reprieve later.

2021-12-12 04:34:39 +0000 UTCIts pretty simple. Its too OP. Or we could argue they recharge off the citys ZPMs and since they are pretty much out of power they are conserving the usage. Its kind of like in Doctor who we have this sonic screw drive. A get out of jail free card for pretty much any situation.... Then they added psychic paper to help open human doors instead of just physically locked ones. In classic who they ditched the sonic screw driver for several doctors because they thought it was just a broken BS story device that was a crutch out of any situation

2021-12-11 23:53:14 +0000 UTCI'm actually curious why they don't use the jumpers more often. In real life, they would send a jumper on the visited planet and stealth it. If anything happens, they can use the jumper to clear the stargate area (the jumper has drones that can be really powerful, right?) and fly through the stargate.

2021-12-11 22:06:46 +0000 UTCWhat was also noticeable in this episode, is the necessity for John Sheppard to establish his authority as military head. The security guy came very close to insubordination the way he was speaking to John. He would never have spoken to Suttner that way. Seeing that Suttner didn't like John, he might have reflected that disdain for John to his men. Interesting dynamic.

2021-12-11 21:19:52 +0000 UTCThat's pretty awesome, and what a great message, so from that, it sounds like they intended people to find this place and use it.

2021-12-11 17:50:13 +0000 UTCHere's something I didn't learn until after the series was over: the writing on the stairs is Ancient, and it HAS been translated! From the top stair to the bottom, it reads: WE HOLD THESE AS THE TRUTH A HEARTY WELCOME TO THOSE OF OTHER WORLDS VISITING OUR HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME. WELCOME AGAIN TO THOSE RETURNING YOU HAVE BEEN GONE TOO LONG AND YOUR ABSENCE HAS WEIGHED HEAVILY ON OUR SOULS. WE ARE WHOLE AGAIN THAT YOU ARE AMONG US AND WE CELEBRATE YOU BEING HERE AGAIN AS WE LEAVE FOR DISTANT WORLDS WE PLEDGE TO RESPECT THE LANDS OF OUR NEIGHBOURS AND TO ACT WITH INTEGRITY AS AMBASSADORS IN PEACE TIME OF OUR PEOPLE TRAVELLERS WITH OPEN HEARTS WILL ALWAYS BE WELCOME REFUGEES FROM TYRANNY MAY SEEK SHELTER UNDER OUR ROOF AND KNAT OUR PEOPLE WILL LAY DOWN THEIR LIVES TO PROTECT THE WEAK AND THE JUST LET THIS BE OUR LEDGE TO THOSE INHABITANTS OF THIS WORLD AND ALL WE MAY EVER KNOW WE WILL ALWAYS STRIVE TO COME IN PEACE AS WE GO IN PEACE AND YOU WILL BE WELCOME ON OUR SHORES FOREVERMORE

2021-12-11 16:01:53 +0000 UTCNgl, I thought you were referring to a puddle jumper when I first read this lol. I agree, though, the sweater-collar combo does look sharp!

2021-12-11 14:48:22 +0000 UTCLike you mentioned, some of these first episodes are more info based. Even though we've been with Stargate SG1 for a long while, this is still a brand new show finding is legs and building is own base in the Stargate world. Also, great to see Teyla exhibiting her fighting skills. By the by, loving the jumper. Tis the season ☃️

2021-12-11 11:27:48 +0000 UTCExactly. Real talk those 50 cals at the sgc should probably be mounted on balconies above the gate or something
Timothy Nikiforovs
2021-12-11 08:22:13 +0000 UTCWhy would the fucking moron be standing in front of the gate, instead of to the sides for ultimate flanking positions? You are just fucking asking to get shot by unseen enemies if you stand in front of it, smh...
