cheers for the spoiler at the start really wanted to know jack was gunna be compromised again :/

Silmoheru Rosaslie

Except we've already had the situation where a Russian officer was practically forced on Jack before

Sarah

Jack had a rough start as the leader of the SGC. I like to imagine that by this point clO'Neill has been diagnosed and treated for ADHD at the insistence of his teachers, and that by some indirect way [like through Daniel] Jack learns about it and eventually gets himself treated. I can't imagine any other way he deals with paperwork and meetings all day and doesn't end up shooting up the base within a month. Why isn't it Sam's job, as team leader, to pick new team members? Sure, the base commander should have a final say, but at least the initial selection should be made by team leaders. Even with the best of intentions, not any group of people can work well together, especially in a job that occasionally requires them to spend days or weeks together away from home.

not in this reality anywayπŸ˜‰

Carter just has a sign on her saying 'open all hours' as far as being taken over by entities goes - I think the only thing not to be inside her so far is Jack ;)

Chris

Wait a minute.... What's young George Hammond doing on the base! 🀣🀣🀣🀣

Daryl

I can't wait for you to see who they get to fill out SG1.

Devin

The Tok'ra suck, they are liars and weasels.

I find that from an outside the US pov that this is generally how most people view American relations. When I watch Stargate it never seems to be a commentary on 'Oh here are the evil Russians', more so a...can't think of the word...general perspective on America's perceived behaviour and opinions on other countries. Most of the Russians depicted in Stargate we come to see, whether it's over the course of a few individual episodes or by the end of a singular episode, that these characters are generally nice, well-meaning, hardworking, and pretty jovial. The US counterparts however end up coming across as bigots who have their minds/viewpoints changed over that same time frame. It is a very American, military heavy show so the favour is always going to be on American side however I think that these international characters that are introduced do end up becoming beloved by the viewers and that's down to the writing and portrayal. It would have been great to see more characters from other countries, as while that theme of cooperation is in SGA it is still generally led by the Americans or with characters who have American/American-like accents.

I agree about the russiaphobia frankly just being annoying at this point, and its more than that too, other than the occasional alien like Teal'c, Jack is pretty xenophobic. Like he treats the Tok'ra like crap as well as most Jaffa who are not Teal'c or Bratac. He tends to be dismissive and condescending towards other cultures and has almost zero grasp of diplomacy or cultural sensitivity. Don't get me wrong I love Jack, but making him the head of the SGC is perhaps not the wisest call from a diplomatic stand point...

Emptysea93

The russiaphobia did always bother me too, most Russians portrayed in SG have for the most part been quite honourable and honestly integrating the resources of other super powers for earth defence might offset some of that 9 billion a year to turn the lights on around SGC, why I do love Atlantis, very cool seeing Aussies, Canadians and all the nations of the world running around/ getting fed on together, I wonder if it will take aliens to bring us all together as a planet, keeping our individual differences which is real diversity. A good episode, I love Jacks bluff. But why did Anubis need a body to go through the gate, radio signals can go through, perhaps a plot hole but enjoyable episode

Maybe the Mir patch was a souvenir from an earlier mission the Cosmonaut had been on? πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ

At about this point in the show, I was genuinely getting a bit pissed at how poorly the Russians were being treated. Sure, they've had their disagreements in the past, but a lot of that is water under the bridge at this point. I think back to Chekov standing up for the SGC in Disclosure rather than throw in with China and the other nations being briefed, and Col. Evanov back in Metamorphosis who was a genuinely good man by all accounts. Same with Vaselov here. I always get annoyed with Jack for being such an ass to him without even giving him a chance. I get his resistance to outside pressure, but that shouldn't be taken out on 1 man who just wants to do his best. Regarding Anubis, given his half ascended state, it should have been obvious he wouldn't go down so easy. Honestly they're lucky, he could have cleared out the sgc if he wanted. Just jump from on body to the next doing as much damage as you can, none of it will actually harm him, only his host. Interestingly the cosmonaut at the beginning is wearing a Mir patch, despite the fact that Mir was decommissioned 3 years before this episode came out. Finally the guy who played Vaselov is actually South African(which makes him pulling off the accent somehow more impressive). He did go on to work a fair bit as a director, including directing X-Men Origins: Wolverine. While not the best showing, he has won an academy award for his work directing the foreign language film Tsotsi.

1 each

Timothy Nikiforovs

Is he doing one episode of stargate sg1 the Atlantis or 2 or each

ANIMEMUSE

One note: Jack never defied the president's orders nor did he have any intention of doing so. He had 24 hours to resolve the issue so he tricked anubis by tricking everyone else and making everyone think they were going to be staying indefinitely, thus forcing anubis' hand and making him take action which would reveal himself.

PhamTrinli

About that scene though, part of me wonders if it still wouldn't have been fatal to shoot Jack again. The energy had dissipated enough for the bugs to start attacking again, but not necessarily to allow him to survive a second shot. Teal'c at least seemed to think it wasn't worth the risk as he shot at the ground instead. It might depend on body weight as well. The guy who played the Mountain in GoT might only need a few minutes in between, whereas if you zat a small child for not cleaning their room, you need to give it at least a couple hours before giving further motivation🀣

Timothy Nikiforovs

I didn't discuss the zat lag with MGM (just my way of reminding folks I've written novels for this show; don't look them up until at least Season 10!!), but if it had come up in either of my novels, I would have postulated this: in Prodigy, they revealed that the effects of a single zat blast dissipated in the time it took Jack to run for the Gate. He made it almost to the DHD before the little lightning bugs moved in close again. Therefore, I believe that once that initial blast's energy dissipated to that degree - say, a couple of minutes - you were outside the range of the second killshot. Someone grab a stopwatch and call Siler, let's test it out. 😁

Geonn Cannon

I know the Goa'uld are cold but this is ridiculous.

Villain in Glasses

Yes! Time for some 'gate!
