Most commenters seem to think this episode mostly falls flat because of its pacing and placement in the season, but I think it has much deeper issues that makes it pretty bad. It’s a shame because the core idea is interesting and many self contained stories in the series have made good enjoyable episodes. I guess I’ll just list all the things I think are wrong with the episode. 1. Once again, nobody bothered to consult with a real biologist. As a result the science part makes little to no sense. There’s no reason for the mechanisms of human memory to be in any way compatible with a small parasitic aquatic alien species or its mechanism for transmitting memories. The whole ‘Goa’uld DNA taking over human DNA’ as a reason for Anna to be dying also doesn’t make sense. All they had to do was say they were able to recover Sekhmet’s DNA from those old artifacts and use them to make a clone, and that through genetic alterations to either the goa’uld or the host or both they were able to allow the host access to the goa’uld’s memories and prevent the goa’uld from permanently taking over the host. Sort of like forcing a more Tok’ra like relationship. 2. Scientists being generic. Real scientists specialize in a field, usually in a sub-field. They don’t magically know anything and everything related to any scientific or technical field. Dr. Bill Lee is a classic example of this problem. The show uses him for any science thing the plot needs a minor character to do, like digging up ancient artifacts with Daniel [archeology], studying energy creatures [biology] and here trying to diffuse a bomb [engineering+bomb squad?]. Sam is also used as a generic scientist here when she is asked to go over biomedical data instead of Agent Barrett calling in a specialist [Too bad they just killed off their resident medical expert. This episode could’ve worked much better if it preceded Heroes] 3. Lots of bad irresponsible decisions. Giving Anna a candle and allowing her to light it was incredibly stupid when they knew Sekhmet could surface any moment. When Sekhmet did indeed surface and set the cell on fire, they opened the cell door, essentially letting her out. Half the walls of the cells were basically a fence, they could’ve used the fire extinguisher from the outside. Keffler escaping was also due to incompetence. He wasn’t cuffed to the table, or at all, and the single guard just walked over to him, allowing Keffler to grab his weapon. Agent Barrett was also at fault, wandering around the creepy warehouse by himself with a dangerous person on the loose. If he had someone with him it would’ve been much harder for Anna/Sekhmet to steal his weapon and the remote. 4. The good guys being bad for no reason. Why was Keffler not formally arrested and read his rights? Keffler may have been working for rogue NID agents and a corporate conspiracy, but Agent Barett and SG-1 were supposedly operating lawfully.

2021-11-13 12:14:28 +0000 UTCI'm going to be in the minority here, but I actually like this episode just fine. As Omar pointed out, it's a cheap bottle show to save money for the finale(worth it), and like Stef Furness said it's main problem is being planted in the middle of some truly extraordinary episodes. This concept in S3 or 4 or 6 would have landed a lot better in a quieter part of the season, but coming off one of SG1's top 5 episodes, it pales in comparison. The biggest criticism I have of this episode is that the pacing is VERY slow. Nonetheless, I do feel bad for Anna, and I think the idea of having this goa'uld/human hybrid with dual personalities is rather interesting, as opposed to Daniel being corrupted by the knowledge in Absolute Power. How well people think it's executed is hit and miss, but I think the actress did a good job. Keffler is a little eccentric, granted, but he also gives off the vibe of someone who grew up with a war criminal for a father, and took after him quite a bit. He's not the most obvious, surface level sadist, it's more that he's completely indifferent to any suffering he causes to accomplish his goals. People are just tools to him, and I think that coldness was rather well portrayed. Amanda actually insisted on being allowed to direct an episode in S7 when negotiating her contract. This was her first directing work, and clearly she developed an appetite for it as most of her work after SG1 is behind the camera. The same kind of situation happened with a few Star Trek actors over the decades as well. Overall, probably still in the bottom 25% of SG1 eps for me, but I feel like it gets more flak than it deserves.

2021-11-05 21:51:46 +0000 UTCRegarding the character's ages, Teal'c was born in 1899, Daniel was born July 8, 1965, Carter was born December 29, 1968, and O'Neill was born October 20, 1952. So Teal'c is about 105, Daniel is just shy of 39, Jack is a little over 51, and Carter just turned 36. Both Amanda and Richard are 2-3 years older than the characters they play, while Michael is 5 years younger than Daniel. I think Chris Judge is a few years younger than Teal'c, but I'm not sure.

2021-11-05 18:50:17 +0000 UTCYeah it's a sleeper episode, but you gotta have some bottle episodes, low budget, before you go all out on finale's for budget reasons, so this is that, pretty simple.

2021-11-05 16:14:41 +0000 UTChas he said anything about reacting to SGA?
2021-11-05 14:17:36 +0000 UTCcompletely forgot this episode. Can't believe they would name an episode Resurrection and put it right after Heroes. Otherwise eh, I see why I forgot it

2021-11-05 13:49:56 +0000 UTCWhy "sadly"? Why does it matter which gender directs the show if it's good?
2021-11-05 13:40:24 +0000 UTCIs he gonna watch Stargate chronologically? I'm curious if he's gonna react to SGA.
2021-11-05 13:35:54 +0000 UTCShoutout to Amanda Tapping for being the first (and last, sadly) woman to direct SG1. Although I don't like the story of the episode, I think she did a wonderful job with a lot of creative shots. She's actually a very busy and successful director nowadays :) I'm happy she got her first steps in Stargate and Sanctuary.
2021-11-05 12:05:29 +0000 UTCThis is one I tend to skip. LOVE that Amanda directed this one! But I honestly can't stand Barrett!

2021-11-05 03:40:17 +0000 UTCThe directing was brilliant, but I think it was at the top of the low tier/ bottom of the middle tier. In my opinion, and this is only my opinion, Disclosure is lower than this episode. I don't like clip shows on any series.

2021-11-05 03:31:49 +0000 UTCI'm a pretty big fan of Stargate. I've watched the whole series several times. Almost every episode I recognize by either the title or a sentence or two of the description. I literally had to read most of the synopsis of this one to even vaguely recognize it. I don't think it's bad, just forgettable. On the bright side though, the next ton of episodes make up for it ten fold! I'm sure you already know, but the spinoff will start after some episodes, if you have a friend who can tell you when to start it, and what order certain episodes line up, that would be ideal. Assuming you plan on watching them concurrently. Can't wait for the next few weeks / months!
