I knew it was season 7, but couldn't remember which episode, so every episode catching up on these reactions I kept thinking "Is this gonna be that episode?", and then when I saw the title "Heroes" I immediately remembered. Phew, I knew this episode was gonna hit hard, but after the reveal it just kept building and building, ha ha. Was practically sobbing towards the speech. Such a good couple of episodes.

2023-05-12 13:13:49 +0000 UTCEven having seen every episode and movie in the Stargate universe, this pair of episodes still easily make the top 5... I still bawl like a baby at THAT moment Every. Single. Time.

2022-12-02 14:53:22 +0000 UTCWow, I never got this far when watching the show when it aired, so that just completely blindsided me - with this and Buffy I need to hydrate from crying, lol

2021-11-20 23:12:21 +0000 UTCThis is one of those episodes where I cry everytime I see it. Even though I know whats coming! Miss Janet so much! And poor Cassandra. Loosing her second Mom in such a short time span. In my opinion the acting was outstanding in this one.

2021-11-05 06:37:58 +0000 UTCOh man, I hope we get shows like Warehouse 13, Haven, Eureka, The Librarians. Maybe even Defiance, doesn't fully fit the same theme as those but I thought it was a well done show for the most part.

2021-11-04 21:23:18 +0000 UTCIf you like Saul Rubinek you should watch Warehouse 13. He is a powerhouse in that show.

2021-10-31 21:02:28 +0000 UTCThe steady build-up of emotions for a loss you expect. To have a sudden shock to the mind that someone else, never expected, was in fact the loss. All the while the frustration that he just wants to show the sacrifices they make so that people truly know. This is one of Stargate's most beautifully written episodes. It's in my top five episodes. Not for enjoyment, but for the immensity at which it stimulates emotion.

2021-10-30 05:19:30 +0000 UTCNot a lot of shows have episodes that make me cry, movies either. This is one episode i always cry to.

2021-10-29 22:40:41 +0000 UTCI'm assuming they'll be paired and hopefully someone in discord can give him the watch order (if possible with just S#E# without titles so as not to spoil them ahead of time) because if not, there will be missing context that he wouldn't get. And instead of 2 sg-1 eps, I'm assuming we'd get one of each so it wouldn't really add to his current schedule.

2021-10-29 21:53:52 +0000 UTCObviously this isn't the headlining comment of the episode, but that actor (Adam Baldwin) also played Jayne in Firefly, which is absolutely a show you should watch at some point.

2021-10-29 19:26:44 +0000 UTCMr. Woolsey is kind of a jerk the times he shows up, but I like his character growth during the series. May lovely Dr. Janet Fraiser rest in peace.😥😥

2021-10-29 18:48:44 +0000 UTCI can't emember any talk about the spin off(s) in any of the Stargate reactions up until now. Has it been mentioned maybe in Discord if there will be reactions to those too, and if so, if they will be paired up like Buffy/Angel or done after SG-1 ends?

2021-10-29 13:46:22 +0000 UTCDefinitely also some of my favorite star gate episodes. Other commenters have already said most of my thoughts on them, but one think I've noticed is the similarity between Bregman and Daniel. They're both tenacious and stubborn in what they do and say, downright infuriating to others at times, but... they have their reasons and it's because they think it's the right thing to do. It makes sense that Bregman "connects" with Daniel and makes Daniel a little more open to his ideas. EDIT and PS: Can we take a second to imagine, how many other episodes with alien cultures would have gone easier, if the aliens had documented things and how much easier that would have made Daniels work?

2021-10-29 11:45:51 +0000 UTCOne of the two best episodes of Stargate! The writing is so good on this two parter, it's got a little bit of humor, drama , great action, so much tension! I rewatched them a few times over the years!

2021-10-29 10:46:25 +0000 UTCFor the record, Mary Steenburgen is nice ! :) *CUT THAT, NOBODY CARES, THAT NOBODY CARES WHAT I THINK* i love Saul Rubinek, Fantastic actor and i dont say this lightly but Heroes part 2 is in my top 3 SG-1 Episodes, Adam Baldwin! P3X-666 is the planet ;)

2021-10-29 06:50:24 +0000 UTCAs painful as it is to lose a character like Janet, they couldn't have given her a better send-off to emphasize how important she was.

2021-10-29 06:18:12 +0000 UTCThis is probably the most painful story in SG-1 but also the best. Right across the board from the acting to the writing to the filmmaking everyone is fantastic. A very powerful two part story that still draws me in no matter how many times I have seen it.
2021-10-29 05:58:44 +0000 UTCWhat can you even say about these episodes? Both the peak and the absolute worst of SG at the same time. I cried buckets. Walter's segment always hits me somehow. Just the pride he takes in his work and that the SG-teams feel safe with him at the helm. My heart.
Teth
2021-10-29 05:19:52 +0000 UTCIMHO one of the best 2 episodes of..... of all television... It still hurts when they watch the tape... and the performances from everyone across the board.... god damn...

2021-10-29 01:45:13 +0000 UTCWarehouse 13 for me is like a sci-fi Merlin - as someone else recently mentioned about Merlin, I love the concept and character dynamics, but somehow it found a groove it was comfortable in and never strayed enough from it to turn into the really great thing I wanted it to be...on top of some funky-looking special effects at points. The characters and concept were really great, though, and Saul had a similar well-meaning gruffness to him as he does here.

2021-10-29 00:59:56 +0000 UTCSuch an amazing and heartbreaking episode. RIP to a real one. It's one of my absolute favorites.

2021-10-29 00:15:41 +0000 UTCI feel like she was the only one on the base to give him a fair shake, and as briefly as he knew her it's clear he admired her a lot. The shock when he sees the tape and the fact that he offers to give it back because I guess he would feel guilty exploiting her death speaks to that. It always hits me when Daniel says "I think this shows what Janet Fraiser was all about. I want other people to know" Also I've never seen much of Firefly. We gotta get him to watch at some point. Not a big commitment at least.
Timothy Nikiforovs
2021-10-28 23:25:27 +0000 UTCI'll just reiterate what everyone else has said, that Saul Rubinek is just great in this. Probably the best guest star by far. I'm so glad they gave him those wonderful monologues and as much as you want to agree with your "friends" SG-1 and Hammond, about having him there, he made some incredibly important points about journalism being there to (hopefully) record the truth. I also love the actor because of an episode he did in Star Trek TNG, which others have mentioned. But this was his best that I've seen personally. And seeing Jayne from Firefly (Adam Baldwin) talk about children was hilarious. I was so happy when I first saw him in this episode. As for Janet: I didn't watch this when it aired. So I didn't know any leaked info that she was leaving. So when I watched it, I went through the same emotions you did. It hit me like a ton of bricks. Her actual death wasn't drawn out and dramatic, it was very realistic. One minute she's there, the next she wasn't and it killed me. I still cry every single time I watch this and it's been a lot. It never gets less sad for me. Especially since when I first watched it, I loved that her and Emmett seemed to have a bit of a connection and I remember thinking that it'd be nice for Janet to have a relationship with someone who knew what she had to deal with. And then.. yeah.
Lady Beyond The Wall
2021-10-28 22:27:17 +0000 UTCAlso to add, there was a suggestion on the patreon a few days ago that they should have made the full documentary Bregman made available as a DVD featurette which I think would have been a stroke of genius. Also thinking about other SG1 eps that felt like movies, the only ones that come to mind so far are Children of the Gods and the season 1 finale/S2 opener. The replicators first appearance possibly, but I didn't find it had the feel and pacing of a movie as much. The Tok'ra, the Hathor 2 parter, Exodus/Enemies, Full Circle/Fallen/Homecoming and Evolution felt very "TV episode" by comparison. Redemption maybe would qualify. The upcoming finale though definitely does it for me. Top tier stuff.
Timothy Nikiforovs
2021-10-28 22:26:01 +0000 UTCI've probably seen this episode 7 or 8 times at this point, and it honestly gets me all fucked up every time. In fact I think it hits harder on subsequent viewings. Fraiser was among the best doctor characters in a sci fi show, and I always thought her personality and dedication to protecting the people in her care really stood out, such as just recently in Lifeboat when she went off on Martice for stealing Daniel's body. Other favourite moments had to be, well, all of Meridian, and the time she pulled a gun on Nirrti. She was borderline a main character a lot of the time, and this episode wouldn't have had half the impact it did if it was Simon who died. In fact for me personally, the way her death is handled might well be the hardest hitting death of a character in any TV show I've watched. If you go through the show again some day, you'll find Meridian doesn't hit as hard(still a sad episode), just on account of the fact that you know Daniel is back a year later. Even at the time they clearly left the door open with his ascension. Obviously Daniel is a more integral character, but when you know he basically takes a vacation from the show for a season, it doesn't hit as hard. Fraiser's death is so much more raw and senseless. Daniel saved a planet from blowing itself up (a city anyway), and he had time to say goodbyes. Janet saved a life, and in the blink of an eye her's was over. Teryl Rothery was understandably pissed when they told her that they were going to kill off her character, but after reading the script, she realized they'd written something special. In fact much of the cast and crew once named this as the best episode of SG1, which is hard to argue with. In fact when Hammond is talking to Bregman about writing letters to next of kin, and how they deserve more, his voice breaking wasn't acting. Between his own service in the military, and the fact that Teryl was like a daughter to him, the subject matter of this episode hit him particularly hard. And yes, Saul Rubinek delivered a superb performance as Bregman. A lot of people, myself included, find him rather insufferable in part 1. You get the impression he's doing a hit piece more than anything, some weasel of a reporter looking for clout. It's when he tells Daniel about the war photographer that won me over. He starts talking and Daniel is shaking his head like "this fuckin guy", but as he goes through the story, Daniel starts to realize along with the audience that behind his somewhat abrasive approach, there are genuine motives to honor the sacrifices of those serving in the military. The line "he realized he hadn't accidentally taken a picture of a man dying, it was of a man saving his life" is one of the most powerful bits of dialogue in the episode. That scene really shows you what Bregman is about and gives you a newfound respect for him. Woolsey OTOH, that guy is a real piece of work. Trek fans of course recognize Robert Picardo from Voyager, and while there was always some arrogance to his character on that show, this is on another level of douchbaggery. I mean arguing to leave people behind because of .......budget?!? As someone was saying the other day on the patreon though, what makes this character intimidating is the fact that he's not dirty like Simmons. AFAWK there are no dirty secrets to use as leverage. He's cold, ruthless, and completely clean. I have to say though, I do like SG-13. They've got to be from this one episode the best developed team next to SG1. SG3 in the lore is SG1's runner up team, first under Makepeace and now Reynolds, but usually we just see a named SG team leader and a bunch of nameless, speechless extras. We not only got their names, but they all had unique personalities and stories. Balinsky is like Jackson Jr, Wells is obviously pretty important to the episode, and Col Dixon despite being a new character(Adam Baldwin was a staple scifi actor in the 90s and 2000s) seems like old buddies with Jack. Would like to see more of that team. One of the best scenes though has to be Teal'c tribute that Carter read at the memorial. I can't think of a better way to honor the life of Janet Fraiser. Half the people on that base have to owe her their life several times over, and honestly given some of those people have saved the planet multiple times, arguably the whole planet owes Fraiser for her service. Absolutely phenomenal script, characters, acting and episode overall. RIP Janet Fraiser

2021-10-28 22:15:22 +0000 UTCI have been waiting for weeks for you to watch this. I skipped a head a few episodes because I couldn't wait. Then when today (thursday) came around, I was like YES ITS TIME! I'm glad you really enjoyed this episode, keep in mind there is an interview with the actor who played the journalist (its recent within the last year). Look it up, you get to hear his thoughts on these 2 episodes. Lastly, You may want to speed through to the finale for the season, its almost as if SG1 show has learned how to stride from this point forward! Enjoy

2021-10-28 21:55:26 +0000 UTCOK first off.... "How can anyone not love Janet!" Eeesk, this is gonna slap hard. 😬 The topics that this two parter touched on are too many to mention. To combine them so brilliantly into two of the best episodes I've seen of any show. Is an accomplishment that can not be overstated. Some one else said that Teryl's departure had been leaked. I hadn't heard that. So it was recieved as intended. I vividly remember having some quite complex emotions at the time. I have to acknowledge the realities of grief that factored into how I felt about the brutal manipulation that this story delivered up. Feeling both sadness for Janet, but also an unpleasant accompaniment of relief that it wasn't Jack. Truly made this an extremely unique character death for me. There are not too many episodes in shows that rise to the level that these collectively achieve.

2021-10-28 21:05:19 +0000 UTCThis is definitely up there in terms of my favourite episodes. Saul Rubinek was absolutely brilliant in this and actually got me interested in other stuff he did, so that’s how I got into Warehouse 13. This is SG1 when it is firing on all cylinders, and I absolutely love it!
2021-10-28 20:59:01 +0000 UTC“Fraiser didn’t make it” FAILWHALE: WHAT THE FUCK! I said the exam same thing. Great reaction man

2021-10-28 20:47:42 +0000 UTCI honestly didn't enjoy the first part of this when it first aired but looking back so many years later it's just one of SG-1's strongest stories. You mentioned what a great guest star Saul Rubinek was and I cannot stress enough what a great actor he is. He has mostly had smaller roles in things I've seen but he always gives such a great performance. One of my favourites was in Star Trek TNG's The Most Toys but I'd forgotten how good he was here.

2021-10-28 20:35:10 +0000 UTCEpisode 18 was the 150th episode of the show so they always do something special for their milestone episodes and when you compare it to the show 100th it's definitely different in tone, as it's alot more campy and funny when compared to serious tone of the 150th.

2021-10-28 20:06:50 +0000 UTCOne of the best written episodes I've ever seen. I can think of maybe two other shows that had this big of a surprise come up. Those at least had a foreshadowing feel to the episodes leading up. This show though, nope. It just feels like it comes out of nowhere, yet at the same time works so perfectly for the storyarc. It really emerses you into the SGC world.
Erin Ragsdale
2021-10-28 20:02:53 +0000 UTC(I actually came up with a twist that helps me cope: they know Bregman won't go away, but how can they trust him to sit on his documentary until it's approved for release? They fake a death! They let him show it, they let him include a full memorial service, meanwhile Janet is off-world doing Doctors Without (Planetary) Borders helping sick people in less advanced societies set up healthcare. That way if Bregman leaks the tape, they can say "It's all bullcrap, everything was staged, the lady who died was an actor, look here she is alive and well!" Instant discrediting.)
Geonn Cannon
2021-10-28 19:53:11 +0000 UTCI HATE how amazing these episodes are. It's definitely the pinnacle, for writing, humor, drama, etc. Bregman is an amazing character and the actor really played him perfectly. But GODDAMN JANET. I loved her so much and still do. I've watched and rewatched and watched the series again, but honestly this reaction is the first time I've watched these episodes straight through since they first aired. It just hurts too much. We knew it was coming for a long time because it was leaked, but even so I didn't want to believe until it actually happened. Also for numerical meaning: you mentioned SG-13, but on Daniel's tape you can see the planet was designated P3X-666.
