This is my favorite Sam centric episode! Like the hole plot and how it was delivered. I agree with you on the insights of Sam's character. Really enjoyed that. Beside that I always like her interactions with her father. Not just in this episode. I mean overall so far. They deliver it both so well.

Faily has had some really bad headaches(mentioned above) so he is recording when he can 🙂

Where's the next one? is a day late

My stargate addiction is killing me now, where is it :[

Here's a fun fact: I was paid by MGM to write a sort-of followup to this episode in one of their anthologies. I was a late addition and they gave me the plot and said, "See what you can do with this" (whereas my other writing for them was to write whatever I wanted). It's not my favorite of the things I wrote for them, but it gives the episode a special place in my heart. :)

I used to think Grace was the embodiment of the Star/nebula thing, but on this rewatch, I like the idea of it being her inner child. Sam mentioned multiple times how the girl was doing something that Sam used to do or her mom used to do etc. Now I can see the argument that it's her inner child that's can focus on the real issues and think "out of the box" like a child seemingly can.

Erin Ragsdale

Yeah that was always my thought in that scene. That would be like a medieval army worrying about people with fighter jets stealing their catapult technology. Also Daniel's take on how annoying he was as an ascended, lol

So.. my interpretation of this episode is that Sam had multiple parts of herself trying to.. help herself get through everything. When Teal'c would show up, it was logical stuff. When Daniel showed up, it was creativity. Creative ways to get out of the situation. She needed to figure out some other shit too though, so her dad showed up and talked about love. That was her emotional side. And Jack was her strength I think. He kept telling her she could get out of that situation and to just go do it. But there was obviously love wrapped up in that conversation as well. Along with her dad, her conversation with Jack was part of her trying to figure her life out and her emotions in general. As for Grace. I don't know if it was an actual being or if it was literally her inner child trying to get her to think less complicated. Could go either way for me there. Maybe it was both. Who knows with weird cloud aliens. This episode isn't my favorite, but I love it anyway mostly for the conversation she was having with her "dad", realizing there's something missing from her life and why she's so scared of letting herself truly love someone. It was all very introspective and I very much liked that and I could relate.

Lady Beyond The Wall

I absolutely love this episode. It is hands down one of my favorites. The conversation with Jacob is so good at showing how Sam views love and then the one with Jack shows why she hasn't given in to the fans demands. The mystery of the little girl and whether anything is actually real is just a great backdrop for some Sam reflection. And whether the girl was Sam as a kid or the gas entity is never said. Great episode.

This isn't an episode that I 'have to watch', but I do appreciate it. The one thing I love about this episode is the manifestations of her stargate crew and father, and how we get to see how Sam views them and what parts of Sam they take on, which is something we haven't been privy to before. Teal'c is the warrior, the part of Sam who thinks tactically and warns of danger. Daniel is the bigger picture, the look outside the box and don't tact fact as fact part of Sam, and something she's learning from being around Daniel. Jack is her strength and her leader, the person who she find comfort, safety and stability from. Jacob, of course being her father, is comfort but also we've seen from their relationship already that hes honest to the point of being brutal. When she has this time to really reflect inward, he's the one asking the hard questions and giving her direction. The last piece of the puzzle is Sam herself who is logical and analytical, and while she is incredibly smart and resourceful it's through these additional skills that she has but are strengthened by those around her that she is able to solve the problem and get herself out of this situation. As far as Grace, she could be a manifestation of Sam sans logic and learning, the Sam who we know from previous episodes can be a kid at heart. She could also be a manifestation of the cloud; Daniel questions at the beginning whether she has thought of talking to 'it'. And I don't tend to go down this route myself, but it could also be someone looking out for Sam, a kind of 'by the Grace of God' kind of thing but I think this a bit too off the beaten track for Stargate as even the 'other beings' we now know are just ascended Ancients.

*pretty sure the aliens arnt interested in 'Prometheus technology' ghost Teal'c lmao, - 'oh chemical propelled rockets we defeated with ease, nice humies!' and "maybe somehow we offended it when we flew inside it" may be one of my all-time favorite scifi/Daniel quotes lol

brad hawkes

Teal'c loomingly hovering in the background waiting for Jack to open up...... "Alright WHAT!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

DAMN the sound of the Earth ships in space really makes me tingle in a good way, that low wrrp wrrp wrrp wrrp wrrp wrrp wrrp wrrp :)

DANIEL JAMES

I like this episode a lot. Can't say why in detail. I just like the Story idea in this one. :)

This was an alright episode for me, but it wasn't my favorite.

Here is my interpretation: The little girl was perhaps an entity living in the cloud, perhaps they are energy beings, or something, there's actually something similar in a TNG episode where they pickup an entity by accident when passing through a gas cloud, it turns out to take the form of a little girl etc... so I think this might be a homage to that, or at least, a similar kind of thing. It did help Sam realize how to get out, notice the entire time she was singing the song that is the clue on how to get out, so she WAS helping Sam the entire time, Sam just didn't realize it. And then the hallucinations of the SG1 team was simply that, due to her concusion. Great episode, so the ship is limping back to Earth, finally we'll get it back and can make proper repairs and perhaps get the Hyperdrive working normally, right now it's using an Alkesh hyperdrive. As for the aliens, they are a new alien, never seen em before. And finally, the standout feature of this episode is well, Amanda's acting, she's totally getting to flex in this episode, and I see that as the big point here. Plus, it's a nice thought provoking episode.

Apparently according to the DVD commentary, this was the highest rated episode EVER to air on sci fi channel at the time. I was always dubious of that. I mean it's alright, but there have DEFINITELY been better episodes. There's another Carter centric ep coming up this season that's much better IMO. There's a lot left unanswered here. Was the cloud alive and trying to communicate, or was everything (including the suggestion it was alive) just a hallucination? Who the hell were these jackass aliens that just roll up and start shooting(and yes, that ship is several kilometers long, one of the biggest yet)? Who was the little girl? Given Carter is being very introspective in this episode(everything her "dad" tells her is really just what she's telling herself), I've often wondered if the little girl wasn't Sam, or some idealized, carefree version of herself before she got so wrapped up in her work. And Jack is kinda making Teal'c out to be ancient here. He was only 102 in The Light, it's Bra'tac who is 140 now. Then again 105 is still kind of ancient. At least they FINALLY got the Prometheus back, though I guess that means the al'kesh they captured a few eps back is stranded. I see 2 possibilities there. Either they took the core out at Earth and sent it through the gate, in which case maybe they can still use it for defense but just can't take it into hyperspace. The other option was they flew it to Tagrea and took the hyoerdrive out there. If they let the Tagreans keep the ship to study, it would be a great olive branch to secure their continued friendship. Not a bad episode. Seems they're shelving the Jack/Sam romance(but come on, they gotta give us that theme one more time). Otherwise this one is just "so so" to me. I feel you'll be pleasantly surprised in the next ep though. EDIT - Also the Prometheus weapons officer was played by Craig Veroni. He'll be back in a bigger role later.

Amanda Tapping won an award for best lead performance for this episode.
