UNEDITED EXCLUSIVE: Stargate SG-1 Season 7 Episode 1 "Fallen" (PREMIERE) REACTION!

Daniel is back! I was really looking forward to that, the show just wasn't the same without him. Of course, now that we see the Others can force someone to return to their original form, that makes Anubis' state very strange and inconsistent. It was also great to see the team being more proactive than usual, setting an elaborate trap for Anubis. The 302 finally got to go up against some death gliders and held its own [BTW the hyperdrive hasn't been fixed, it was always limited to small jumps otherwise there's no way to know where you'll end up]. Hammond and Walter offworld was fun and unexpected. They definitely changed some of the look of the show, and it's not just the image quality. Teal'c's skin is no longer golden and he doesn't have his usual eyeshadow. Personally I liked it the way it was. This type of attack is why passwords exist. If Anubis had only restricted access to his computer in even the most basic way this whole plan would've failed. I know it's a common thing in sci-fi but that doesn't mean I have to like it.

In my country they stopped airing the show after s5, so for all I knew Daniel was just gone forever. I can't express how excited I was when I got to watch s7 and onwards several years later, and it's still one of my favoruite seasons. Lots of great episodes to look forward to!

Finished the reaction, thank you. That line at the beginning "No but he plays one on TV" always cracks me up. I notice a lot more humor and semi 4th wall breaking so far. This episode really spices things up. Yeah, so most of us watching this live knew Daniel would be back, but I like how they handled it, a slow progression of him remembering his memory and who he was. Not all at once. I like this way better. I like the idea of the Ancients making a city lost, making it so no one can find it cause it contains wonders. What a really interesting concept. So the whole fly the ship through the bigger ship routine and fire down an exhaust port is so Star Wars. That's what it's referencing. Loved the operation they pulled off here, but poor Yu, he's gettin up there, and he isn't what he used to be, sad. But also a good thing, else Jonas and Daniel might have died on the ship if they blew it up. So actually a good thing he didn't show up in hindsight. What else is there to say, Stargate gets better and better each season.

I was hyped for this dropping since I remembered Daniel dropping back into the material plane -- but I had *completely* forgotten about the extended Star Wars homage in it. I was grinning and laughing the whole time, Stargate is at its best when it's just having fun.

Just started the reaction, a quick correction before I continue. Daniel is not an Ancient. He is an ascended being. The Ancients are Ascended Beings. They ascended well before Daniel, so the "others" he spoke of means they are the Ancients that Ascended. So not all Ascended Beings are Ancients, but the Ancients are Ascended Beings. Make sense? For example, we also learned Anubis learned to Ascend somehow, and he was not an Ancient, he was Goa'uld.

No doubt, SG1 really hit the ground running this season, and the best is yet to come. You can really see how the pace at which technology and lore are introduced has sped up since scifi channel took over production. They're really diving into this search for this ancient city. Not to mention between Full Circle and this they're making Anubis an active threat rather than some ominous background villain. I mean he has tried taking out Earth before, but always in such indirect ways. Obviously the biggest thing is Daniel's return, though he is in a bit of a pickle at the end. Jonas even more so. Still, it was great to see the 2 of them working together. His amnesia does seem to be clearing up fairly quickly, so I wouldn't expect it to be a long running thing, but he likely won't remember everything from his time ascended(I'm sure that's what the others were most concerned about). I'll wait to comment on them more until after part 2. And that look Hammond gives O'Neill when he says he doesn't remember him either, like "you always have to say something, don't you Jack". Also Daniel's question about whether Jack's hair always looked like that was I believe a reference to how different Kurt Russel's hair was in the movie. Little bit of trivia, Arrom actually means naked in Hebrew, giving some clue as to the origin of those people. And as Matt pointed out, the Star Wars references are heavy and intentional. Jack wanted their callsign to be Red Leader, the reactor and tunnel the camera speeds through is straight out of Return of the Jedi, the 2 missiles taking out an exhaust port causing an overload is almost identical to A New Hope, as was the trench run and turbolaser tower imagery, and even the briefing was clearly an homage to that movie. Hell even bypassing the shields with the hyperdrive was later used in The Force Awakens. Also to be clear, the hyperdrive doesn't work no problem, it's still only good for short tactical jumps, but clearly that's still a big advantage. Also Col. Reynolds is leading SG-3 now. The guy has come far from that major they met at Area 51 back in Touchstone. SG-3 is generally considered the most important SG team after SG-1. Always nice to see the recurring characters. Also Martin Wood on the elevator. Finally it's a blink and you miss it thing, but the X-302 is now being called the F-302. This means it's no longer a prototype and has entered full production. Also the 303 has had it's hangar bays referenced a couple times now. We can definitely expect to see more of those things. Considering the prototype (despite saving Earth) felt like it was done a disservice by being destroyed before having a chance to see combat, this episode definitely offers the fighter some redemption. Aside from the naquadria hyperdrive, the glider is a FAR more advanced and mature piece of technology, presumably in use in one form or another for thousands of years. But much like the staff vs P90 scene, the Tau'ri prove that super efficiency in design can overcome a gap in technology. Guided missiles vs fixed staff cannons meant to strafe medieval villages is no contest. This primitive tau'ri craft went head to head with 4 gliders and blew half of them away in seconds, then bypassed the defenses of the most powerful goa'uld ship to date and hit a critical target, and got away with only minor damage. Just imagine was 5 or 6 squadrons could do, especially if they loaded up a few tactical nukes? Anyway, Anubis is pissed, so some shit is definitely going down in part 2. I suppose a system lord going senile or whatever is happening to him isn't the worst thing for the galaxy, but Yu is the only one that's actually been somewhat reasonable and useful, so it's a shame to see it happen, especially right now when we needed the help.

Watching it live, eveeeeryone knew Daniel was going to pop up in this, the only question was really "How?" So it was really great seeing it from an unspoiled perspective. Same with Abyss and Changeling (although the guest-starring really spoiled those a little early). Not just the surprise when he was recognized, but the added angle of "We've been tricked before, you know, we've been duped." It was a nice perspective to have!
