'The Changeling' gives us an interesting peak into Teal'c's mind. We see some of the people who’ve had the greatest impact on Teal’c’s life, with Apophis popping up in the creepiest ways. I did find it somewhat unlikely that his hallucinations would be so centered around Earth and humans when he spent the majority of his life among Jaffa as a soldier for Apophis. The real takeaway is that we now have an alternative to immature Goa'uld to offer the Jaffa, if only it could be made without actual Goa'uld and in large quantities. ‘Memento’ is my favorite of the two. Finally we get to explore with an actual starship of our own, though the ‘who needs the stargate’ declaration was clearly too early. We meet the new crew and see more of the ship. I thought Ronson looked like a good leader but he seemed to lack in the diplomacy department which is a big problem. Not everyone they meet is going to be an enemy. As for the ship, I noticed during the episode that there’s a ring transporter at a junction between several corridors. Given that there doesn’t seem to be a way to prevent or regulate activation of the rings from the outside, that seems like a huge security risk. Those rings should be in a locked compartment under constant guard. The civilization our characters meet was interesting and I liked the interaction with them. Kalfas was right to be worried, though disobeying orders was a little too far. I did find it strange that this apparent one nation and one government civilization that remembers nothing about its past would develop missiles that can hit a target in space or would have what I think the episode tried to depict as a large army. If they don’t know what the troubles of their past were and they have no outside enemies, what would they be using those for?

2021-10-07 20:46:27 +0000 UTCAnother great reaction and to a great episode. This is one of those that I always look back on as one of my favourites. Great to see CJudge getting to shine in this episode. One request though, if possible. It would be great if you could avoid the guest credits at the beginning, I just think you would get so much more enjoyment by seeing characters randomly pop up (which happens a lot in Stargate) rather than having the same reaction at the beginning of each episode. I remember when I first watched I used to cover the bottom of the screen with my hand so it wouldn't get spoiled. 😆 So much better tho!

2021-09-10 09:25:36 +0000 UTCI'm very late to the replies, was finally able to sit down and watch the reactions. Thank you for the reactions. Changeling confused me at first too, when I first watched it, but watching it again now, it's done really well. Such a great moment for Teal'c and Christopher Judge. With long laster reprocusissions. As for Momento, I really always loved that gate-raising scene, it's so iconic and really gets at the heart of this show, the discovery. It's epic. And I love how the episode starts out, Earth, well the SGC, is starting to explore space sans Stargate, that's HUGE.

2021-08-27 22:37:46 +0000 UTCEpisode 19 is my favorite Christopher Judge written episode. I like the Fireman Setting a lot. Great Transition.

2021-08-27 16:43:37 +0000 UTCThat Dr. Jackson man, just floating around the higher planes helping people out of difficult times. It's all a set up for the spinoff where he teams up with Oma Desala, Touched by an Ascended. Yeah, Changeling was a very unusual episode, but again Chris shows his talents as a writer. It was also a sneaky way to bring back some old faces like Shan'auc and Apophis. As Geonn Cannon pointed out there were some cameos of cast members family members in this episode, namely Amanda Tapping's husband, and Chris Judge's son and girlfriend. On rewatches, when you know what's happening in the real world, it's interesting to see all the parallels between the dialogue and scenarios playing out in Teal'c's mind and what's actually happening. As an example, when Bra'tac in the car tells him to save himself, it's probably Bra'tac in reality telling him to keep the symbiote and let him die. There are a bunch more. Of course it's Daniel's cameo(guy is just dropping in semi regularly at this point) that really elevates the episode. He's gotta drop in and help Sam at some point. The end of this episode really was very much like the end of Abyss, hitting you in the feels with that theme from Meridian while Daniel tells his friend that they're gonna be fine. With the tretonin now a viable substitute to carrying a symbiote, it would seem to be a solution to the Jaffa dependency on symbiotes, but when you think about it, if they need to use symbiotes to make it, they might actually be MORE dependent. A jaffa can get years if not decades of mileage out of a symbiote. How long will a vial of tretonin last? Unless the tok'ra have found a way to artificially synthesize it. Memento is however my favourite of the 2. Loved the politics and worldbuilding in this one. Robert Foxworth in particular really added to the episode with his performance as Ashwan. Omar rightly compares this ep to Star Trek, and funny enough in an episode of DS9, Foxworth played a character in many ways similar to Kalfas. As big a step up technologically as the Prometheus was, it's been MIA for almost half a season, so good to see it in the spotlight again. Ronson also makes a great argument for not fully utilizing SG1 in the simulations, and the fact is Jack is so used to SG1 being the MVPs that he's not considering that most of the time, Prometheus' crew wont have them around to rely on. Overall he seems like a capable commander for Earth's first battlecruiser. Also I'm imagining how cheesed you'd have been in your reaction if in some alternate reality they had to abandon the ship and it got destroyed by the reactor breach. It's actually pretty weird that the reactor ejected where it did. Obviously that was a reuse of the scene where Simmons got blown out into space, but that means they just shoved the reactor out some random corridor. Highly suspect, but gotta save on budget. Speaking of Ronson, There's a nice little Star Wars reference in his dialogue. When he said "let's hope the old man is right, or this is going to be a short ride", It echoes Han Solo's "I hope that old man got the tractor beam down, or this is gonna be a short trip". It's always great to meet other people who are on par with Earth and potential allies, and even better when they aren't space nazis, or keeping a bunch of brainwashed slaves underground, or on the verge of a world war. Kalfas was a bit of a prick, but his position is understandable, and as he rightly pointed out, Earth would do much the same in their position. The man's biggest flaw was being short sighted, but he only wanted to protect his people, so he deserves some slack. Ashwan conversely was an idealist, and perhaps a little naïve, but his faith in SG1/Prometheus peaceful intentions did pay off. This episode is a good example of how caution and optimism really do need to counterbalance each other. Love the theme as they're digging up the gate as well. Overall, much better eps than last week's. Both add to the lore in pretty significant ways and have some great performances.

2021-08-21 11:10:01 +0000 UTCI don’t know what it is about it but Daniels theme (‘Meridian’ I think it’s called) always gets me a little choked up. It just seems to embody who Daniel is and feels sad yet hopeful at the same time. If I could listen to an hour long track of it, I would.
2021-08-21 08:27:29 +0000 UTCIts honestly a beautiful ship, its so ugly and gerryrigged together with mismatching parts, made from modular cubes and not enough round edges yet because all the techs bulky and mismatching from multiple sources of technology, i love it. Its so Earth.

2021-08-21 04:59:42 +0000 UTCI've been waiting for the Changeling since we started watching! Brilliant work from Chris Judge. No one else could have written Teal'c that vulnerable and honestly. The fact that he's still haunted by Apophis, his panic at losing his symbiote... and on top of that we have Daniel staying with him through all of it. Just... one of my favoruite episodes ever.

2021-08-21 00:50:51 +0000 UTCAlways liked the internal politics between ashawon and kalphus. basically just the liberal/realist debate on screen, neither are wrong and both are necessary and reveals things in each other.

2021-08-20 22:31:25 +0000 UTCMajor Gant in Memento (the blonde bridge officer) was Ingrid Kavelaars, who was a lead actor on Jeremiah. She and Peter Stebbings used to sneak over to the SG set during breaks in filming to see what Stargate was up to. Eventually they were asked if they wanted to play. Peter became Malek (Allegiance and Cure) and Ingrid got Major Gant.
