2022-12-11 03:28:37 +0000 UTCTruly a classic X Files episode. It must have been 22-24 years since I last say this episode and I still remembered so many scenes and lines like it was yesterday. I think what makes this one special is that the writers and producers finally realized "hey, this is a weird show we're doing. Sure that can be mysterious or terrifying, but nothing says it can't also be absurd comedy". I think in this episode they finally just embraced their format and stopped trying to exclusively make the audience feel paranoid of the government or aliens or otherwise afraid to turn the lights off, and just decided to have fun with the show. I'll just say it's the start of a trend. The X Files peculiar brand of comedy has a bigger presence on the show going forward. Dr Blockhead was hilarious from that opening stunt at the funeral right up till the end. Love how he says "I've seen the future and it looks... just like him", then it cuts to Mulder doing the whole Captain Morgan pose. Also that "I'm such an idiot" look Scully had when she realized she been duped out of $5.
