Those are two very enjoyable episodes, especially 'the other guys'. ‘Shadow play’ gave us a lot more insight into Jonas’ world and its politics, which was interesting. It did raise some questions about Jonas. I still don’t understand what Jonas’ field was. When we first met him he was said to be supervising the naquadriah project from an ethical standpoint and he also talked about translating text from the ruins of the old Goa’uld temple/naquadriah lab. This time Jonas is said to have been an advisor to Kelowna’s head of state and that he had been recruited into the naquadriah project by his old teacher and mentor who was one of the 3 lead scientists trying to build a bomb. This would therefore make the professor a physicist or something similar. It’s like Jonas was doing anything and everything that works for the plot. We also heard literally nothing about his family which is odd. This would’ve been a good episode to say something, even just a line of dialogue. Near the end of the episode we see the team roaming freely and unsupervised around Kelowna. That’s very strange and not something I’d imagine the Kelownan government would have allowed, especially considering their own representatives were never allowed to see anything on earth except the interior of the bunker the SGC resides in. Then we see the team finding the naquadriah at the warehouse. It’s supposedly a dangerous and volatile substance, yet it’s stored in what looks like simple metal boxes (we’ve also seen it stored that way previously when Jonas defected and brought some to earth). Then the team somehow smuggles the contents of all those many boxes to earth without anyone on the planet realizing. I know those uniforms have a lot of pockets, but this is a bit much. It feels like the ending was rushed and not thought out, which is a shame because the episode was overall very interesting. ‘The other guys’ was just a really fun episode and I love it. As others mentioned it was great seeing the actor who played Phlox on Enterprise play a Trekkie scientist. The only thing I would like to note about this episode is that it was interesting to see Khonsu’s Jaffa all apparently knew who and what the Tok’ra are. When we first encounter Jolinar in season 2 Teal’c refers to the Tok’ra as a legend and has no idea they actually exist. Clearly the events of the last few years have led to Jaffa in general becoming aware of them.

2021-12-26 11:27:15 +0000 UTCI know. I saw you answering a direct question, and I saw 2 new names. I'm honestly both shocked, and a little impressed, you actually deleted your response. But, hey ! Welcome!

2021-07-15 14:03:52 +0000 UTCBoys - we don't hype specific episodes here. It's not specifically a spoiler, but targeting like that can affect a first-time watching. He has a Discord if you want to have that chat over there please. Chat here should not go beyond the current episode. Thank you kindly!!

2021-07-12 19:44:33 +0000 UTCAnother question: since the issue of languages came up recently, even if the normal answer is a simple universal translator solution, how does "got a resume?" make any sense whatsoever to Herac (is it Herac? I don't feel like going back to look) - he answers appropriately but that's one of the few times where I think the language barrier really should have been a thing. Just curious.

2021-07-12 06:45:06 +0000 UTCShadow Play is an alright episode. I've personally never liked the "it was all in his head" trope. Personally the thought of being in his shoes is terrifying. And as for the other guys...well, that's Felgar for you. I read a fanfic once where he keeps having scientific breakthroughs and they're all potential doomsday machines.

2021-07-10 23:28:33 +0000 UTCWhat happens when you revise the list to only include SG-1 saving Earth from the goauld and Teal'c being on the right side??

2021-07-10 22:56:33 +0000 UTCI feel like Shadow Play is downplayed a lot for being boring, but I think it does some interesting things. There are some eps of SG1 that explore mental illnesses such as addiction in Need and depression/suicide in The Light, but schizophrenia is a rarer subject to cover. Seeing how this whole scenario is playing out in his head, driven by guilt over having built a doomsday weapon, it rather sad, especially Jonas at the end playing into his hallucinations and telling him he saved the world even though the truth is quite the opposite just because he knows that his fantasy is all he's ever going to know. Dean Stockwell does a great job here. Also I loved Teal'c and Jonas having the heart to heart regarding what it's like to be considered a traitor by your own people. Teal'c really never had someone to talk to about that who would understand. It was also good to see that Jonas isn't universally reviled back home. I also have to disagree with the first minister's argument that releavling the stargate wouldn't do any good because Earth still hasn't. Earth is quite peaceful all things considered. Even Russia and the US are cooperating. There are arguments for keeping the gate secret or going public, but the fact is even if X302s were mass produced and better than gliders, Earth has no real defense against ha'taks, so revealing the gate would only be telling the general public that there's a threat to all life on Earth that they have no real defense against. In the case of Jonas' homeworld, the planet is facing a very destructive world war. Putting the fear of (false) gods into them might not be a bad idea, especially if a mostly neutral 3rd party like Earth was mediating their disputes and offering non military advancements that benefit the whole planet as long as they don't start shooting. Their situation and Earths are completely different. Not really a lot to dive into with The Other Guys, just a really fun episode. Pretty accurate depiction of how most fans would probably be if they found themselves in the world of the show. Super enthusiastic but kinda useless. Also liked how they made the guest star who plays a main character on a Star Trek show the trekkie. Adding to that, there's a klingon bat'leth above Khonsu's throne. We get so used to seeing SG1 handle these life and death situations like another day at the office, so it's a change of pace to see people who actually work in an office get thrown into that, and the comedy lands really well. Loved Felger blindly shooting up the ring room, Teal'c and Jack talking about hockey and how many times they've saved the world(which I think is actually more than 8), and O'Neill losing his shit at their incompotence. Still they did step up and give them an opening to escape, so credit where it's due. Alright now I'm curious, how many times HAS SG1 save the world. The stargate wiki lists... 1 - the attack by Ra in the movie 2 - conquest by Hathor in S1 3 - Apophis and Klorel's attack at the end of S1 4 - The Message in a Bottle orb that pinned Jack to the wall 5 - The bioweapon in Rya'c's tooth in Family 6 - Earth being infested by the insects in Bane 7 - Being sucked into the black hole in A Matter of Time 8 - Sokar's attack in Serpent's Song 9 - Reetou rebels attacking Earth in Show and Tell 10 - An attack by Hathor in Into the Fire 11 - The events of Foothold 12 - Replicator infestation in Small Victories 13 - The Window of Opportunity time loop 14 - The Aschen sterilization in 2010 15 - Replicators infesting the galaxy and by extension Earth in Enemies 16 - round 2 with the Aschen in2001 17 - The naquadah asteroid in Fail Safe 18 - Replicator infestation again in Menace 19 - And Anubis' attack in Redemption 1 is a legit end of the world scenario since a nuke plus extra naquadah and probably detonating the gate would kill the planet going by Redemption, but SG1 as such wasn't formed at the time and Teal'c wasn't present, so he probably didn't count it. 2 I don't think counts since Hathor wouldn't have really destroyed Earth nor likely have actually succeeded in the long run. 9 is hard to say how much damage the reetou could have done with just 1 team, but probably not a global threat. 10 doesn't even count since Hathor was far more interested in taking troops and territory from other goa'uld, and was more of a mind to ally with Earth against other system lords. 13 wasn't really doing any damage, Earth was just stuck in a time loop, and presumably Malakai would eventually have given up. 14 also doesn't really count since it was an alternate timeline and they wouldn't remember, and even though they probably figured out the message came from the future, he'd probably only count it as 1 time along with number 16. Still that leaves 11 legit times SG1(with Teal'c, though in Enemies he was on the wrong team) has saved Earth directly or by extension. And there are a few they didn't count. 1 - The "cave man" disease in The Broca Divide 2 - The ageing nanites in Brief Candle 3 - Cassandra's gate destroying bomb(again, a planet killer per Redemption) in Singularity 4 - Arguably what they tried to do in Serpent's Venom and and accomplished in Exodus by preventing 1 goa'uld from becoming all powerful would count as saving Earth 5 - The AI in Entity could have been a massive problem if it got off the base. 6 - The tollan phasing bombs in Between Two Fires 7 - The virus in Antarctica from Frozen could have been a massive problem, but presumably the SCG was quarantined and could be purged if it came down to it, and Ayiana(as well as Kanan) was the one who healed them, so SG1 didn't really save the day 8 - The goa'uld clones from Nightwalkers managing to spread and take over key positions on Earth Some of those are iffy as to whether they should be counted, but at least 1, 2, 3, 4, and 6 for sure count, so it's still between 16 and 19 times. Both O'Neill and Teal'c were seriously undercounting.

2021-07-10 22:45:09 +0000 UTCI had a schizophrenic roommate in grad school who threw herself from our 2nd story window at the end of our first semester, and my father, who passed away last year, had Parkinson's. The dementia suffered from these conditions is heartbreaking to witness. Shadow Play has always been a bit difficult to watch even before I had the direct relatable experiences - my grandparents were also diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, but I was not present enough, either physically or mentally, to be as affected at that time. I learned with my father many of the traits are shared and still indistinguishable from each other with our modern practices and, consequently, makes finding the appropriate cocktail of medicines very difficult as, additionally, so many of the prescribed options also have side effects that also need to be "treated". Similarly, with schizophrenia, at least in my roommate's situation, depression came with the meds and trying to fit in at our new school, and weight gain came with meds, which in turn made her more depressed and made it harder for her to fit in, because, you know, kids without world experience tend to be ignorant, cruel, and naive all at once. Surprisingly, this was the easiest watch of this episode I've had, perhaps because I'm not relating in real time to my father's path anymore. Perhaps because I knew the more lighthearted "The Other Guys" episode was coming up right after with the unexpected, and always appreciated, Double Bubble. I was also fully looking forward to hearing the Star Trek fans geek out over whatever allusions I've missed in this episode all these years since I'm not "technically" part of that fandom. You guys have already given me a good place to start if/when I wander in that direction.

2021-07-10 15:33:30 +0000 UTCTwo very good episodes, in my opinion. "The Other Guys" is a particular favorite of mine because it always reminds me of the Star Trek TNG episode "Lower Decks" where you get the perspective of the regular people on the ship rather than the bridge crew, and that was one of my favorite Star Trek TNG episodes. Although this one is funny whereas that one is..not. I'm a huge fan of John Billingsley too, who played Coombs. Love all the Star Trek references, and his character on Star Trek Enterprise, Dr Phlox was my favorite character in that series. So he holds a special place in my heart as an actor anyway.

2021-07-10 15:30:12 +0000 UTCI love that episode anyway, but part of it for me is that I just absolutely love John Billingsley and Dr Phlox was my favorite character in Star Trek Enterprise (and is in my top 3 for favorite Star Trek characters as a whole universe). I'm still salty to this day that it wasn't given the standard 7 seasons for a Star Trek series since TNG. Personally, I still blame the shows theme song, lol. It grew on me eventually, but I remember so much annoyance among people I knew when it was airing.

2021-07-10 14:42:49 +0000 UTCReally like both these episodes. The second one is good fun, but the first one is just really solid storytelling IMO. You can imagine the overwhelming guilt that led Jonas' mentor to come up with the delusion of the resistance. Perhaps saddest of all is that the government wanted to keep the whole thing quiet to keep the other scientists working on the project, knowing they'll eventually end up the same way. Having Jonas on the team is also allowing us to see another side of Teal'c which is much appreciated. He hasn't had a reason to talk this much about what he's going through before. And I hope Coombs and Felger really got their medals, they deserved them!

2021-07-10 11:09:47 +0000 UTC*The other guys has to be one of my favourite episodes, it’s a hit or miss for most people, I love those guys* go back right to saving the world for the 7th time... 8th ;) and Dr Phlox from star trek enterprise is the second other guy, John billingsley, hence all the star trek references. <3
