I think Wesley was able to step up as he was genuinely worried about Angel - he was never really accepted or taken seriously in Sunnydale, but now he's part of a little team and like others have said, his confidence is a lot higher.

2021-05-01 09:43:36 +0000 UTCI do not typically like fight club/wrestling/gladiator episodes in shows, so for me, wasn't that great. However, we do meet Lilah here in this episode, so that elevates the episode for me.

2021-05-01 08:45:48 +0000 UTCI enjoyed this one more than I expected to! Cordy and Wesley got some time to shine, and we're finally seeing a bit more of Wolfram&Heart. I think the biggest factor for Wesley's competence here is confidence. He is highly trained after all, and his faith in himself is gradually improving during his time with the team. In the episodes so far we've seen that Angel's trust in him has meant a lot to him.

2021-05-01 06:47:20 +0000 UTCI like this one. It's a fairly generic "forced into being a gladiator" story, but they did a good job making you connect with the various fighters. And of course Wesley is showing he's much more capable than he lets on.
