I really love this episode. It's simply good and engaging and I can't think of any criticisms, which is saying something coming from my nitpicking self. Poor ambassador. I would've liked for him to become a recurring character. I wonder what the Ashen did to him after he got left behind. Probably tried to get information from him only to realize he had just been read in on the Stargate project and therefore barely knew anything.

Season 5 folks! Where Carter's Love interests go to Die. That's 3 so far these season alone and 4 so far. Martuf last season, Orlin, Narim and now Ambassador Joe. We technically see 2 die but 1 ascended so 1 "died" but Matuf's memories live on in Lantash so...whatever. But poor Ambassador Joe...wow...his new future don't look too bright. He got future note erased and now he's either gonna get executed or, assuming he doesn't get sucked into a black hole/progressively worst'd, medically castrated & slowly bored to death possibly for another 100+ years.

I never really thought about it before, but the Aschen arc is kind of Carter centric. She led the effort to uncover their machinations in 2010 and she was the one that got the note through the gate. Daniel obviously does a lot of the heavy lifting in uncovering their genocide of the volians, but it's a nice full circle moment that once again it's Carter saving Earth via heroics involving the stargate. I also like that this episode offers Joe Faxon a chance at redemption. He was not only complicit in the aschen sterilizing Earth's population(even if he didn't know the extent of it), but afterward was very self centered and thinking only of himself and Carter with no thought to the rest of the world. Conversely here he's willing to step up and sacrifice himself to stop the aschen despite barely knowing Sam/SG1 and having only recently gone through the gate. Not sure how the address given can get "progressively darker" after a black hole though? Hopefully they don't dial that one from the Volian homeworld. Even if the Aschen homeworld was swallowed up(given their comparatively limited knowledge of the gates it's certainly possible), it's unlikely the Aschen are completely gone as they clearly had a number of colonies and vassal worlds in their domain. Still, it'll be a big blow to them. And year that shot of Daniel leaning back and giving the thumbs up with the sunglasses has been a bit of a meme for a while now. Also might just be me, but I always found that expression on Carter's face after O'Neill said "wonder who's idea that was" to be Goddamn adorable. Lastly, the newspaper Daniel finds is actually readable. Every letter has been shifted one place up in the alphabet.

This is a really great episode, I like the way they did this two-parter, showing the future part of it first, so you are thoroughly confused, then follow up a season later with the second part, something you'd never think they would revisit, yet, they do, a whole season later, and it connects them both perfectly. The only issue I have is it's wrapped up a bit quickly at the end. But I like how everyone is suspicious because of the note, so yeah, things would have gone a little differently because that note exists. I wonder if there will be any political fallout from this and certainly tension between Kinsey and everyone. The O'Neill with Two LL's line never gets old :p

The difference of the first contact is the planet they meet the Ashens. In "2010" we lnow they met them on their homeworld and in "2001" on the Volian planet. ^^

Yes, some of the writing just feels kind of sloppy to me, and it has some of my least favourite episodes. But it's a high bar with Stargate! I really love all the seasons going forward.

Oooh, don’t remember Kinsey’s first appearance, huh? I knew you didn’t recognize him when Jack and Mayborne when to his house. He was the one who tried to shut the gate down before the “The Serpent’s ___” storyline, in the end of season 1.

Really?? Most people consider it one of the best seasons. S8 is my least favourite. 6,9 and 10 are pleasantly surprising me this run through the series

Speaking of Sam's love interests... 😂 I quite liked this one too. S5 is probably my least favourite overall, but it has some absolutely stellar episodes like this one. 10/10!

second half of season 5 is muuch better than the first half, like lowkey first half was ass, but 2nd half!!!! lots of dope episodes, so many, almost everything is either important or just classic SG
