Jack wasn't apathetic. He agreed with Daniel on principle, he just didn't think there was a practical way to change things without getting a lot of people killed

It's possible the Goa'uld who were able to take over Unas hosts did advance as a society on their homeworld for quite some time before discovering the stargate network on their own. It would take a lot of trial and error, but it's possible. SG teams are only able to explore a relatively small area, there could be remains of entire cities somewhere on that planet that wouldn't be discovered because they were too far from the gate.

Limi V

Same.

There is one specific episode of season 5 that I'm looking forward to seeing the reaction to. You probably know exactly which one I'm talking about. That particular one is sort of like a gut punch from out of left field.

James Yancy

Not a bad theory, though capturing an unas(especially a goaulded one) without zats would be tricky. Might be more plausible that some poor sod wandered onto 888 and got taken as a host. The symbiote would gain their knowledge of the gates and everything else, raising them above primal status.

Timothy Nikiforovs

The unas episodes are always divisive. A lot of people can't stand them, some love em, some are neutral. I don't mind them, and a couple are really good, but they're not the best of the show. Pretty typical example of Daniel's empathy vs Jack's apathy. I do think they did a good job giving Chaka a more well defined personality as well, and the other unas seem less animalistic than last time as well. Overall though the episode just wasn't very memorable. Fortunately though this ep and Rite of Passage are the lowest point in the season, and considering neither ep is terrible, that says something about the quality of S5. You've been saying for a while that there aren't enough Sam/Teal'c scenes though. This episode at least remedies that issue. I love how coordinated their attack on the village was.

Well, with the combined knowledge the Goa'uld have over thousands of years, they do actually have the knowledge to back engineer technology and develop their own from it, enhancing, modifying. There's no evidence that they can't outright create new technology. One thing that leads me to believe this is the fact that Naquadah was introduced into their bloodstream, and they made it so all their technology needs to detect that in their blood to work, like the hand devices and healing devices. Also, some other stuff that happens in future eps, also leads me to this conclusion. BTW, nothing I posted here was a spoiler (for those concerned) the Naquadah being introduced later in their evolution was in a previous episode he has seen.

Could this have been how the Goa'uld originally gained their first tech after they possesses Unas? Some other species might have captured possessed Unas as slaves, and this way the Goa'uld found their first tech, then took over some ay LMAO hosts to copy all their tech knowledge or w/e, then wiped out the civ after gaining enough tech etc, then after that they started having an easier time conquering Gate addresses etc? We know that Goa'uld don't rly invent anything, they just steal & modify stuff, as the parasites they are (I'll admit, some individual Goa'uld might be more innovative than the majority, sure)

I never really understood people who skip eps on rewatches. Maybe it's just the completionist in me, or maybe I'm hoping to see something I missed years before, but if I rewatch a series, I watch the whole thing, bad apples and all.

Timothy Nikiforovs

The power of Daniels humanity is always expressed best in the Unas episodes, when most of the SGC even Hammond would probably be happy just p-90ing every Unas onsight, Daniels the only one to see something more, to show compassion and gain a powerful ally because of it, Humanity at its finest.

Ok, I watched your reaction. I think I have a better liking of the episode after watching your reaction. The plot is on the nose though, very evident. Still not my most favorite ep, one that I would still skip on re-watch, but I do appreciate your reaction to it.

Brent Justice

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I've always loved the Unas episodes. I find our interactions with them to be at the core of what the entire show is supposed to be about - exploring, engaging in and connecting with other cultures and species, learning and teaching. It feels very pure to me.

indaeo

About as subtle as Nazi Germany invading the Low Countries that one :)

Martin Nicholls

Never was much fan of this episode but actually watching it this time, I think I had more appreciation for Jack and Daniel’s interaction.

Erin Ragsdale

Before I watch your reaction, let me just say that I didn't much care for this episode itself. I just remmber not being interested in it. It's one I always skip on re-watches. However, I'll watch your reaction and see what I think again after seeing you react to it.

Brent Justice

I like when the drop happens Friday afternoon instead of Saturday/Sunday
