There's a little known condition for those of us who feel 'weird' like eye pain/strain and even weird feelings in our heads, possible dizziness, motion sick feelings, all sorts of symptoms, but without giving us the seizures a rare few get from flickering lights. It's called flicker vertigo, where strobe light effect causes an imbalance in the brain cells caused by the flickering lights. It's not usually harmful, but it's not a fun feeling. I have to look away from screens when movies and shows have such lights going on. It sounds like you too have flicker vertigo.

2021-11-07 08:24:27 +0000 UTCFor some reason I remember Krycek being introduced much later into the series. Probably just a matter of perspective. When I first watched the X Files I was probably 8 years old or so. Back then with such a shorter life experience and far fewer shows under my belt, a single season of a show, particularly one as long as 26 episodes, seemed like a lot more ground to cover. Now not so much. Despite being a snake, I remember still liking Krycek. I don't want to get into spoiler territory even though most of the show is a haze after this long, but suffice it to say he's complex. As Vicky said, Rob Bowman is a great director. Most of his work is in TV(I think Star Trek TNG is where he really started to make a name) but he also directed Reign of Fire from 2002. And of course theres Tony Todd. I can't think of a role this guy played that I didn't enjoy. Fantastic and versatile actor. I also completely forgot that his character here has the exact same name as Augustus "Cole Train" Cole from Gears of War. Lastly even though it didn't play out the same, that last scene with his character was giving me serious vibes of The Fugitive which came out the year before.

2021-04-14 17:16:11 +0000 UTCSo many great episodes on DS9. Rocks & Shoals and Duet are my top 2 favourites. Wonder if Fail has seen much trek? Hopefully not as I'd love to see his first time reaction at some point. BSG as well.

2021-04-13 17:53:45 +0000 UTCYeah, The Visitor. Kills me everytime I watch it. I've rewatched DS9 a lot of times at this point, but every now and then I have to skip that one and not because I don't like it. Him + Avery Brooks is magic.

2021-04-13 09:02:59 +0000 UTCGreat episode! I am so glad that you didn’t guessed that Kryceck was bad news. I was with you on my first watch. Once you know it, it’s so obvious that he is shady. This episode is very well written and, as you said, extremely well directed by Rob Bowman. Every time you see him in the credits, you’re in for a treat.

2021-04-13 04:46:17 +0000 UTCI love Tony Todd (who played the preacher), you've probably seen him in things before this without realizing it. Personally, my favorite performance of his was a particularly heart-wrenching episode of Star Trek DS9; can't see the man anymore without thinking of that episode, if anyone else knows what I mean! But most people probably know him most as Candyman (which was my first experience with him as an actor when I was a child, cause my mother just let us watch everything 😂.)

2021-04-13 00:59:09 +0000 UTCI liked it, well written, directed, and great acting, this is the X-files formula down to a T. Minus the alien mythology of the show.

2021-04-13 00:54:41 +0000 UTCWell now we've met Krycek. I had wondered when he comes into the story, now I know, been so long since I've seen the series, I watched it live when it was brand new, but that was so long ago lol. Anyway, great episode.

2021-04-13 00:53:45 +0000 UTCBoth "Blood" (the previous one you've seen) as well as "Sleepless" are some of my favorite standalone (non-mythology) episodes ones of the entire series, although there are plenty of them. I think this is an extremely powerful and effective episode, perfectly executed in perhaps every single way. It is also an example which shows that The X-Files is a timeless classic. It's something unique and special, and stands up to the test of time. Very glad you enjoyed it. :) Cole was played by "Tony Todd", you might've seen him in the horror movies "Candyman" and "Final Destination". Excellent performance in this episode, too.
