FailWhale didn't claim that it was an alien though. At the end of the video it's obvious he understood what it was. Maybe you were confused by his references to Mulder having seen an alien in the previous episode, "Little Green Men".

2021-03-26 17:24:30 +0000 UTCIt wasn't an alien LOL. As Scully explained it was a human/fluke worm hybrid that came from the nuclear meltdown in Chernobyl. But I agree that their reaction to the creature seemed oddly underwhelming. Personally not one of my favourite episodes but maybe that's just me.

2021-03-26 13:22:55 +0000 UTCWhen I saw this episode for the first time, it was the guy vomiting out the blood and worm in the shower that somehow really disturbed me more than the actual monster. Still, this is a classic MOTW episode where most fans will agree that it's really well done. Glad you liked it.

Apparently, the guy in the suit hated the work because the suit wasn't breathable at all so it was was pretty hot inside. Also, Mulder's question "So, what, the murder weapon was a top sirloin?" is one of my favourite quotes :))

2021-03-25 07:08:37 +0000 UTCNext to the obvious terrifying giant worm creature, probably the most memorable thing in this episode to me was "560,000 people a day call my office on the porcelain telephone". That's such an X-Files line. Also blink and you miss it, but in the paper Scully is readying there a headline that says "Nirvana star's ashes are in this teddy bear. Now his widow and her new man even cuddle it in bed". The sheer tabloidiness of that is hilarious. This ep is probably a 7.5 or so on the creepiness/shit your pants scale of the X-Files. There's definitely worse, but it's up there.
