This was the episode that genuinely scared me the first time I watched it and I have made the mistake of watching it alone at night before and had to put my hands in front of my eyes when the gentlemen came on screen because they just terrified me. It's so well designed as a piece of drama.

I heard somewhere that critics kept saying Buffy was all based on its "witty banter" and it didn't have anything else going for it, so they decided to do a mostly silent episode and it ended up being the one that won an award. Really liked your reaction for this one. I agree that this is one of the scarier ones overall and just enjoyable all around.

2021-03-06 20:15:31 +0000 UTCCan you imagine this episode being made today. Everyone would just be standing around in circles texting each other. But then how would we know anything was wrongπ€. Very cool concept though. This episode perfectly highlights how big of a role sound plays in movies/TV. Even in most of the scenes where dialogue would otherwise be the main focus, they didn't even add music or anything, so all the little sounds like clothes rustling or pens being picked up or whatnot end up being so noticeable with nothing else to drown them out. Reminded me of this Auralnauts video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tj-GZJhfBmI&ab_channel=Auralnauts Of course that's more aimed at humor, but still, it illustrates how much a scene can change if you mess with the sound. Also how fitting that they should end an episode where nobody can talk with "I guess we have to talk". Great episode, lots of fun moments despite the creepiness, and definitely well executed.

As for hearing their sighs, sighs are made with air being let out, not with our voice boxes usually. You can make sounds without a voice box, just nothing much coherent. And I love this episode.
