I watched Buffy and Angel as they aired. My sister and I would record the episodes on VHS so we could watch them later, however, they didn't provide the official episode names at the time. For the episode Hero, on our VHS copy, we labeled it the episode where Doyle "dies". I was in denial for a while......kinda like you... ;D On Buffy, I haaaaaaaatteeeeedddddd Wesley. When I saw they brought him in this episode, I was sooooo pissed. At this point you're on ep 12, so I'm sure you know now that Wes is going to be around for now. Not to be overdramatic, but I would say, now, that Wesley is my favorite Whedonverse character. How many times can I say now in two sentences....lol.

2021-03-21 03:17:33 +0000 UTCI remember Doyle not being in the show for long, but I didn't remember him being offed 9 episodes in. Others have already touched on Quinn's addiction issues, so I won't go into that. Honestly I never connected too much with the character and he felt like more of a plot device for the visions at times, but they really defined the character a lot in that last episode, and at least he died doing something worthwhile. That "am I done" at the end is just an extra gut punch. I love how Wesley shows up and seems like he's become a hardened demon hunter, only to quickly be shown to still be the same fumbling excuse for a watcher we've always known. When he tries to prop his foot on the mattress and nearly falls over is so cringe and hilarious. To be fair though, while he could be a bit clueless in regards to the human condition, and a bit of an ass, he did tend to be pretty logical in thinking out situations and his contributions were rather underrated. Favourite line has to be "I'm going to thrash you within an inch of your life.....AND THEN I'M GOING TO TAKE THE INCH!!!!". Doubt the demon guy was intimidated, but "A" for effort nonetheless. Much like we are seeing with Crais on Farscape, this is a golden opportunity to redefine a thus far underutilized character and make something memorable out of him.

2021-03-02 03:06:14 +0000 UTCYour reaction to Wesley stepping out of the shadows killed me. I'm glad you watched these back-to-back because I never really thought of it as a two-parter but in some ways it is.

2021-03-01 03:57:22 +0000 UTCYour reaction to Wesley showing up was glorious. I thought for a second you may have recognized Alexis Denisof's name in the opening credits, but I'm really glad you didn't place it. All the trying to guess who was about to show up was fun.

2021-02-26 19:04:43 +0000 UTCJoss whedon has claimed he always intended to kill off doyle eventually, it was a way of differentiating the show from Buffy, he wanted to make it truly seem like any character but angel coud be killed off at any moment. Unfortunately Glenn Quinn who played doyle had a serious heroin addiction and it got so bad they had to kill him off early. Apparently Joss initially wanted a more drawn out relationship between him and cordelia before Doyle's death, as part of her character growth as well. Instead they simply accelerated the storyline.

2021-02-26 17:04:24 +0000 UTCFinally, Angel team really begins. I know he's a fan favorite, but I never liked Doyle. So happy to see Wesley!

2021-02-26 16:11:51 +0000 UTCFrom what I understand the showrunners were originally going to bring Doyle back in Season 3. However, after Glenn's death it never happened.

2021-02-26 14:21:55 +0000 UTCI don't think Cordelia wanting Doyle to ask her out was quick. She'd been kind of crushing on his for a few episodes now, since he saved her life, in think in The Bachelor Party episode. Then she started learning about what kind of genuine and sweet person when she was hanging out with his wife and she really started seeing him differently. In the beginning of this episode, when Doyle and Cordy are talking about him reconnecting with his wife and possibly working out their failed marriage, you can definitely tell she was getting sad and feeling like she missed her shot with Doyle. She definitely liked him, but I think she'd been weighing on whether she wanted to go down the "Xander Harris" path again or not. I think him finally being honest and open with Cordelia, and the fact that she was more upset that the secret was kept from her than the actual secret itself, was what made Cordelia to be honest and the one to finally make a move...

2021-02-26 12:43:34 +0000 UTCI've been both dreading and looking forward to this. 😠I do like Wesley a lot but that first episode got me. It's a big loss.

2021-02-26 10:58:07 +0000 UTCI've been waiting for these reactions from you. I liked Doyle a lot, and remember crying so hard during "Hero". I also wasn't a big Wesley fan on Buffy, so my feelings were similar to yours at the time. But, I'll just say, those feelings changed a lot eventually. Great reaction!

2021-02-26 10:16:14 +0000 UTCNow that I've gotten to watch it. Love your reaction and it was interesting watching you process the loss of Doyle. Yes, he's really gone. But don't be sad about Wesley coming in. Trust me, having him on the show is absolutely a Win and that's all I'll say about that!
