I actually love this one just as much. The plot is top and the execution as well. I do not understand the bad vibes for this one. But it is just my opinion. :)

2021-02-26 18:19:28 +0000 UTCYou know hospitals have limited resources right? They can't just house and feed every coma patient indefinitely.

2021-02-26 18:18:09 +0000 UTC1) Ancients didn't die on that planet with time stopping machine. Window of Opportunity wasn't on Ancient home world. P4X 639 was once a colony of the Ancients. And like Asgard told Jack in Fifth race - Ancients left this space very long ago, not die. 2) I can never understand why so many people are in a hurry to kill off coma patients or to die, if they themselves are in a coma. You are not in pain, you are not bored, you are just sleeping. There is ZERO discomfort for the coma person. And if a doctor thinks that they can't save this person - why not WAIT? Next year or next Stargate visit you might find something that would save Sam. But "no" - unplug her! 3) I like that this time it was Jack's violent, merciless approach that worked, instead of Daniel's negotiations. It's a nice change and a reminder that sometimes you have to be ready to kill, not talk.

2021-02-26 18:13:44 +0000 UTCI agree about the radio waves, they occur naturally, steller bodies produce radio waves, such a simple thing to succumb to. I also thought why not offer to transfer the entity back to its homeworld, like store it in a malp or something augmented with lots of memory, and time the gate so immediately after it connects the malp goes through and the gate immediately disconnects once its through. It would be a very minimal time the gate is open. Or like you said, open the gate from another planet. Send the entity through to another planet via a malp or whatever, and then dial the homeworld of the entity from that planet, a planet with no technology. That would be a perfect ending, everyone gets to live.

2021-02-26 17:43:08 +0000 UTCIs this native tech or artificially created by the person who yeeted that specific Gate there?
Skebaba
2021-02-26 10:50:46 +0000 UTCI mean considering there's a Gate there, and they seem to be OP enough to attempt this, why would they be planet-bound on a single one?

2021-02-26 10:18:12 +0000 UTCSo, I don't hold this episode in quite so high regard as you, though it is an interesting one. Mostly I have a few problems with how they dealt with the situation. I'm very much on Jackson's side here. Carter wasn't wrong to try and communicate, and this did all result from a misunderstanding. Hammond was perfectly right in saying they couldn't risk opening a wormhole between that planet and the SCG, but they could have offered to take the entity to some planet with no technology for it to hide in(say the planet from Cor-Ai), and then dial the machine world from there. I doubt the entity would have resisted such a proposal as there would be plenty of space to transfer to back on it's homeworld. Admittedly it's stated desire to "destroy their world" was a little over the top, and if it had said it planned to destroy the SGC with the self destruct and bury the gate, it would work better. But back in Message in a Bottle they were willing to negotiate under almost identical circumstances, so it seems off that they'd double down on genocide here. I also have a problem with these super advanced alien machines being so vulnerable to simple radio waves. I just don't buy that one. I mean just because they don't use radio waves anymore doesn't mean they would engineer in zero protection. Radio waves occur naturally at any rate. Any tech that advanced, especially if it houses a civilization of AI, would be hardened to all sorts of EM interference. They did handle the emotional beats quite well here. Especially when Janet is talking about stopping life support and Jack just says "just uh...give it a minute, huh". The guilt he had to be feeling at that moment, especially knowing how he feels about her, and knowing that he fired the shot that killed her.

2021-02-26 08:18:04 +0000 UTCYeah I'd definitely put this above The Light, though it's still not one of my faves. The next one though.........

2021-02-26 07:03:08 +0000 UTCSo what I take from this episode is that the planet they connected to is literally a machine world, a world made of sentient machines. Overall when I first watched this, I didn't rate it that high, not that great, but after seeing your reaction I do feel better about it, glad to see you so enthused about it.

2021-02-26 06:29:28 +0000 UTCI never liked this episode much, much preferred The Light... maybe an unpopular opinion, maybe I just caught this one in syndication too many times and that text-speak voice grates on me. Seeing it through fresh eyes, however, I have slightly more appreciation for it, and Jack and Hammond digging in the heels really did stand out in a way I don't remember. This had been maybe a 2 out of 5 stars for me... I'll bump it up to 3.5

2021-02-26 06:00:38 +0000 UTCR.e. your question about the Ancients and Window of Opportunity: What we do know is that that was a world of the Ancients, they tried to make a time travel system using the gate, but failed, and just let the end come, I think it was a plague. A good question to ask though is was that the homeworld of the Ancients, the only world of the Ancients, or just a colony of Ancients. It was never stated in the episode, so many variables are on the table.
