My favorite part might be the look on Spike's face in the final scene.
2021-04-21 09:12:36 +0000 UTCI dont think its trivial, all she wants is the chance to experience the same things kids her age do. going off to college threw off her sense of normalcy and she wanted familiarity, i definitely wouldnt consider those to be trivial thing nor is she irrational.

2021-04-08 05:25:39 +0000 UTCDespite the serious subject matter, this was lots of fun. Spike especially worked really well here. I don't agree at all with Willow's rationale though. You can't flip open a history book and say "X historical wrong should mean Y present day reparation". Practically nobody on Earth is actually indigenous to anywhere. At some point every culture has taken land and had it taken. Placing the blame for past crimes on people who weren't born for decades or centuries after the fact is childish and morally wrong. Maybe people should be more aware of historical atrocities, but it doesn't make them evil for cooking a turkey and getting together with family. Now if she wanted to argue for doing something about improving the lives of present day NAs, that's different. And we have another case of Buffy getting irrationally obsessed with a seemingly trivial thing. The prom, now thanksgiving dinner, and I'm sure there were more. It always boils down to her wanting to raise the gang's morale though.

2021-02-21 16:39:21 +0000 UTCSpike: "A bear! You made a bear!" Buffy: "I didn't mean to." Spike: "Undo it! Undo it!" I laughed way too hard at that.

2021-02-19 20:49:58 +0000 UTCGreat episode... politically, it tends to bring upon some controversy, but that was kinda the point of it, right? Willow vs. Giles (and kinda Spike?). It's meant to split us, so I love that it worked. Outside of that, it's just funny man. This is probably Spike's funniest episode so far, I love Buffy's "please dont make me take a side" stance, and I really do appreciate them pushing the political envelope while still taking a lighter approach to make it more palatable. And Angel bringing his new style of comedy back to Buffy with him... just good shit. "it's a ritual sacrifice... with pie." You can really see the comedy of the newer main characters like Anya and Spike come out in full force here.

2021-02-19 18:05:37 +0000 UTCGotta agree. They could change the name of it to Bloopidyy Yayaya Day and I'd celebrate it the same way... it's honestly not about the history for me, and many others. It's just a day to spend with your family eating and being grateful. I think you can have that day in celebration while simultaneously acknowdleging and understanding the historical aspect. In fact, the awareness of what actually happened could be part of the day itself... and instead of celebrating our arrival, we could use the day to look back at the wrongs that were committed... if we really wanted to use it that way. At the end of the day, a day is what you make of it. For me, its just about having an excuse to eat all day with my family.

2021-02-19 17:57:21 +0000 UTCThe thing that really bugs me about this episode I think is that Angel's inclusion was absolutely unnecessary. He contributed not a single thing to the story here. It feels like it was a last-second forced addition, like they already had the script written and then it was decided that they wanted to do a pair of crossover episodes, so they inserted him without changing anything else. (At least the companion crossover episode on Angel is much better in this regard.)

2021-02-19 17:45:42 +0000 UTCThanksgiving for me is just about celebrating with family and being thankful for what we have. I think most people celebrate that way, it's a nice dinner, with family, being thankful. I don't see any reason not to celebrate it for those reasons. It's all about your intentions. Of course history is filled with attrocities, that doesn't mean we can't enjoy things like Thanksgiving for other reasons. I just wish they had brought this positive nature about it up a little more, to balance out Willow's comments.

2021-02-19 13:13:23 +0000 UTCi really love this episode i watch it every thanksgiving. my only note was i wish that the spirits didn't speak English but i felt Jane Espenson handled the nuances generally pretty well aside from that.
