I love how shows in the Buffyverse can make otherwise horrific situations humorous. I mean getting ready to cut someone's head open and eat their brain while they're alive is Hannibal Lecter territory, yet the way they play it here you can't help but laugh. "He's right, that was rude. I'd be honored to eat your brain". I actually don't remember a crossover happening at this point, but I'm sure it'll come back to me. Pretty fun episode. Not very important in the larger sense, but a little Doyle development doesn't hurt.

You seemed to enjoy this one... yet I assume by your lack of post-episode thoughts, you did not at all lol

**Sidenote: I like how Angel asked Cordy's date what time he was going to have her back, like he thinks he's her dad or something lololol I mean, he is a couple hundred years older than everyone else there but STILL. silly!

This episode is silly af and I love it. The s/o definitely seems a bit like a combination of Ted and The Mayor. I think I would have liked it a little better if he could have come around to resolve his differences with his lady, but I suppose it's probably pretty hard to come back from trying to eat her ex-husband's brains. Loved the way they fleshed out Doyle's character as a guy who led a relatively normal life and then fell on hard times. Angel doesn't get to do all too much in this episode as the focus is mainly on Cordelia and Doyle but it almost makes him a bit of a stronger character as you can see how subtle he actually is. He could have told Doyle that Cordelia was talking positively about him or told Cordelia that Doyle likes him, but he minds his own business and doesn't push or pry, just acts in a supportive role. Granted, that was basically his job in Buffy too, but I feel he does it better here. I hate the "Oh, I now see your value now that you saved my life" trope, especially when played by women, but since Cordy doesn't swoon straight into Doyle's arms and is still able to recognize he has problems, it doesn't really bother me here. And I like that she didn't get all catty with his ex-wife. Again, the BtVS version of Cordy would have been a complete nightmare in this situation, but she plays it very mature, which is great character development. Think this is a pretty fun, good, monster-of-the-week episode with some nice subverted tropes and a lot of laughs.

Was hoping you'd recognise Carlos Jacott, he played Ken in the first episode of season 3 of Buffy.

Mr K

Agree on all counts. Especially bummed that we didn't seem to get a nice little round up of thoughts on the episode.

Dude was giving off massive Ted vibes 😂 I did enjoy the humour in this one, and they hit some good notes with Doyle's backstory. I love how effortlessly supportive Angel is for a seemingly emotionally repressed loner. No ending comments on this one? The vid just cuts out after the episode
