"Do you speak Goa'uld dialect?" "Why? everybody speaks English all the time"

2021-02-01 00:19:49 +0000 UTCMost of this show was aired during Bush's administration - the era of "don't ask, don't tell." I think they did a good job of tackling quite a few politically sensitive issues without jumping into that lane as well.

2021-01-26 03:38:39 +0000 UTCDavis was my favourite guess character too back in the day, because I'd always guess what would go wrong every time he showed up🤣

2021-01-24 21:46:10 +0000 UTCOne of my favorite episodes, in Top 10! I like the science stuff, where messages take a long time to reach (something that Hollywood movies tend to ignore), and Jacob is visiting (Sam had a great dad). Also little fun adventure with "Great and Powerful Oz"! And the cherry on the top is Major Davis - my favorite guess character!

2021-01-24 18:53:40 +0000 UTCThe moment you mentioned that this episode was just Solitudes in space, my head went: two bros... chilling in a *tau'ri/goa'uld hybrid glider... five feet apart cause they're not G A Y (which is a shame because any kind of lgbtq+ representation in this show would have been extremely appreciated)
2021-01-24 13:55:40 +0000 UTCCan you imagine these reactions in season 7 😯

2021-01-24 13:12:50 +0000 UTCI keep waiting for these episodes to show up, it's a fun time every time. I also got just a little giddy when I remembered this was the point where Daniel has to fake being a Goa'uld and pulls, or fails to pull, off his Oz shtick as it is one of those deliciously absurd moments. In regards to the F301; it is a failure but also a huge leap forward in Earth's capabilities. And it's one of the things this show does very well; building in the background. It also happened with the people of the Scorched Earth episode where the people that they relocated were actually mentioned in a background conversation earlier in the season. The F301 is another such example; something we got a while back, caught a glimpse off later and now is 'fully' developed. It is also a bit like the base security getting upgraded each time a new unknown threat manages to pass through. As a race we are so incredibly under prepared for what the Stargate is now letting us step in to that it is like playing catch up. What we do have on our side is that spirit for exploration, the thing that got us a preliminary offer to become the fifth race. That desire to explore also gives us what might be our biggest advantage over a race such like the Goa'uld as seen in both weaponry and armor. Earth's weapons are precise, the armor made for function where as that of the Goa'uld is far less secure and their weapons meant to inspire fear over lethality.

2021-01-24 12:33:41 +0000 UTCFirst off... Solitudes in space. I love it! My first thought was, I can't see Teal'c and Jack doing a lot of spooning tho. 🤣🤣🤣 And I love love love Daniels shtick in claiming to be the great and power Oz. 🤣 Someone else correct me, but I feel that's the first wizard of Oz reference in quite a while. 🤔

2021-01-24 11:42:21 +0000 UTCThese Stargate reactions are the highlight of my week. In regards to Sams hair military regulations required it to be short or if it were longer it needed to be in a bun, bu the longer hair she had at the start of this season was still within regulation they keep it long and then it got short when they had their minds stamped in Beneath the Surface. They all had a slight appearance change in that episode. Any episode with Jacob makes me so happy! Cannot wait to see more reactions, season 4 is definitely my favourite!

2021-01-24 10:14:14 +0000 UTCI have been waiting for this one for a while. This is really a turning point where Earth starts going from what we knew at the turn of the century and having practically no defense of it's own("these 'shuttles', they are a formidable craft?") to actually having an answer to the goauld. From the sounds of it the missiles they had on board were designed to be able to punch through goa'uld shields. Whether they'd have worked is another question. I agree with Brent, Jacob does have a good argument, and the X-301 was basically mixed and matched pieces from a couple death gliders with some air force tech bolted on. Even Carter didn't fully understand how it all functioned. On the other hand, Earth doesn't have time to take baby steps. If they take the decades or centuries it would take to understand all this tech in a nice safe lab environment rather than somewhat recklessly jumping in and seeing what's what, Earth could be wiped out. Fortune favors the bold, and while some misfortune may come with that, it doesn't mean it's not worthwhile. The X-301 failed, full stop. But you gotta consider that they've had 2.5 years poking around in the innards of the tech in those gliders. They probably learned a lot about how it operates even if there are still some mysteries left. No doubt knowledge they'll apply going forward. The tok'ra have been fighting the goa'uld for thousands of years with seemingly little progress. If Earth took their overly cautious approach they might end up doing the same, and of course Earth can't just relocate like a tok'ra base. Overall a great episode that marks the start of a new chapter in the show with Earth looking to compete in space. EDIT - Also there are a couple technical issues in this episode, such as at a million miles per hour it would take 2 weeks to reach jupiter. Granted thrust continued for a bit after that number was gives so they could have accelerated more, but if they got fast enough to reach jupiter that quickly they'd zip right past whereas they seemed to linger near the planet for a while. Also some of the reflections on the cockpit canopy weren't properly mirrored.

2021-01-24 07:57:36 +0000 UTCJacob does have a good point though, the Tok'ra and Goa'uld have been flying ships like those for thousands of years, thousands of years of using tech like this, so they are much more experienced. Plus there are Goa'uld inventions, it isn't all stolen or scavenged tech, so they do understand advanced tech better, able to maintain it, run it, and build new devices. So yeah, Jacob has a strong argument. I love this episode, it's always one I love getting to on the re-watch list. I love the idea that Earth is now at a point where it is starting to take the tech we have found, and do something with it. While this is a combination of Earth tech and Goa'uld tech, it probably leans more toward Goa'uld tech, hence the reason why they didn't catch the recall device. Also, the recall device was put in gliders post-Teal'cs incitement of rebellion on Chulak. Apophis was afraid other Jaffa would start rebelling and stealing the gliders, so that was his way of dealing with any rebellion, putting a recall device in all gliders. I have always loved what Daniel does in this episode, stating he is "The Great and Powerful Oz" to the Goua'uld mothership lol That part gets me every time, one of my fav scenes right there.

2021-01-24 06:58:35 +0000 UTCWell, this is not the episode I thought it was - for some reason I always think this is a bit earlier in the series. About Sam's hair - the military consultant for the show told them it was too long for standard dress codes at the end of season 3 and she had to do something about it for it to maintain its authenticity. It was still long, and probably at it's cutest, in Window of Opportunity, though, when Jack was ogling at her with a mouthful of oatmeal.
