It's not too far fetched to think that perhaps the Mayor was responsible for trapping The Master, or ensuring that a town he founded on top of a hellmouth for his own purposes survived from whatever demons etc might pay them a visit. Maybe one day someone will write a history of Sunnydale novel. π

2020-12-27 22:08:07 +0000 UTCI know, that's what made me want more than just those hints. Ah well.

2020-12-27 22:00:34 +0000 UTCI love the graduation scene with all the students coming together to help take down the mayor. I find it completely epic, not hokey, but I think it's because the show built up to that point in the proper way. I often go back and forth between the season 2 and 3 finales on which I like more, but I do that with the entire seasons as well. When I rank all the seasons, 2 and 3 basically tie for me. Sometimes I feel like season 2 pulls ahead, and sometimes season 3, but that's just a testament to the fact that they're both so good. Season 2 finale is definitely more intimate. It's two of our main characters that we had grown to love going toe to toe against each other. We know who we want to win, but we don't necessarily want the other to lose either. It's more of a gut punch kind of ending. Season 3 is more grand and epic. Pulling our main group, plus our side characters we had grown to know and appreciate, and the entire school on top of that. The battle is amazing, and I feel this finale is more of a feeling of pride and accomplishment. They're both very different, but both amazing. I can't wait for the drop of 4x1 and 1x1. :D

2020-12-27 21:32:30 +0000 UTCThe mayor does give some subtle hints here and there about his back story. Like when he's putting in his office and talking to Alan, he says something like he would give his soul for a good short game but that it was too late for that and asks Alan, "I don't suppose I could offer yours?", and then laughs it off and says he's just kidding. We do learn he was the founder of Sunnydale, but, yeah, did he do that because he had already planned this out or did his ascension gig come after? I believe he knew of the Master as I believe the Master was swallowed up in the 30s? And the mayor mentions he married his wife in aught three which I assume is 1903 (although I suppose it could be a different aught three as, yeah, we just don't know), so he was definitely already around. It would be cool to know if they ever crossed paths. Harry Groener definitely did an excellent job portraying the mayor. He is always a treat to watch. I think that in the whole run of the show, he's my favorite Big Bad.

2020-12-26 08:05:08 +0000 UTCThank you for posting the last 2 episodes at the same time. I loved the reactions! I'm sure people have told you already, but I recommend watching Angel season 1 along with Buffy season 4. Plus Angel is an awesome series in its own right.

2020-12-26 03:03:39 +0000 UTCAt this point, if you're looking for the full Buffy experience it's time to start the spin off show Angel. I usually go back and forth one for one on the episodes. Mostly because you'll see echoes of one show in the other on occasion.

2020-12-25 15:09:29 +0000 UTCDefinitely the most epic episode thus far, though the mayor's demon form is a little unimpressive. I mean one of those tearing up a medieval village is one thing, but I don't see him lasting too long against the military who would definitely take notice of something like that. A-10 comes in doing a little "brrrrrrrrtt" and he's done for. I do love that his last words were "well, gosh". Fits so well. I also love how emotional he got over Faith. They really sell the father/daughter bond between them, much like Giles and Buffy, just in a twisted kind of way. And like you were saying during the intro, I always saw Faith as someone who was let down a LOT in her life, which unfortunately led her down down this path. I think even Buffy realizes that, maybe even wonders if there wasn't more she could have done to help her. When she kissed Faith on the forehead, I took it as her making peace with Faith.

2020-12-24 07:57:49 +0000 UTCI think this finale is great because it genuinely builds on the episodes that came before it, even episodes that would have otherwise felt like filler episodes. Oz and Larry end up working together like they did as white hats in the alternate universe episode. Xander's Halloween episode stuff comes back. Buffy even kind of fights this CGI snake in a similar way as she fought the CGI snake in Band Candy. Although Xander's far from my favorite character, I always appreciate how the story finds ways to give him little moments in the sun. Same applies to characters like Johnathan. I personally prefer the season 2 finale, but in terms of individual episodes I'd rank this one up pretty high. I kind of wish they'd done the Mayor more like they did the Hellmouth Monster in the Zeppo. The puppet looked much better than a big CGI snake imo, but I'm guessing a puppet would have been WAY more expensive. Overall though, I liked that they played up the father-daughter relationship between the Mayor and Faith because Faith never actually got to have a Watcher the way Buffy did. First her Watcher got killed, then she got a new one and it turned out she was evil, then she got Wesley, who punished her way too harshly for making a human mistake. The Mayor was the closest thing she ever had to the relationship Buffy had with Giles. Definitely tragic.

2020-12-24 06:19:06 +0000 UTCYou're absolutely right about the scene in "The Prom". The reveal of the battle ready students and incorporating them into the big battle wouldn't have worked as well as it did if they didn't have that scene in "The Prom" of them as a whole acknowledging, showing respect and appreciation towards Buffy. It gives her the opening of having them trust her judgment and stand by her side of their hero when asked. It just worked...

2020-12-24 00:13:28 +0000 UTCI know that ending with Angel is going in the R&B King Angel video. I burst out laughing imagining it lmfao...

2020-12-24 00:03:01 +0000 UTCOh! As a personal recommendation, I recommend you not watch the opening credits on the first episode until after you've watched it, if you haven't seen the episode yet. You'll understand why afterwards...

2020-12-24 00:01:55 +0000 UTCI agree that season 2 finale is much more emotionally driven, but I enjoy the action packed season 3 finale more. I love the fight scene with Faith & Buffy. I love the whole school coming together for a plan for war. I love that Buffy can blow up her high school. "I like to think of it as... graduation."

2020-12-23 22:41:53 +0000 UTCThe only real issue I have with S3 is Harry Groener was so good as the Mayor and I wanted a lot more. Would love to know how he became immortal or if he was born like it, how he built Sunnydale, all of his backstory and planning for this one moment. Did he come up against The Master? Ah well.

2020-12-23 22:13:24 +0000 UTCAmazing when you look back to the very 1st episode, how far the show has come - it started as a quirky show about fighting demons yet somehow becomes relatable and emotional. So happy to get the double bubble - not able to be with family for the 1st time this Christmas, so needed a win. Made me happy and cry - which is just what you need from a finale.

2020-12-23 19:47:38 +0000 UTCJust finished watching it! Exactly what I was hoping for from your reaction. 1) Faith did not die in this episode, she's in a hospital, in a coma. 2) When it aired, the Mayor snake looked pretty decent for the times. 3) Right now you are my fav reactor on YouTube. So happy that we have many more episodes to watch!
