Even though this was posted a couple months ago, I think I'll still comment. Not only did the episode itself reference the late 80s/early 90s sitcoms but when USA aired it, they included commercials from that time as well! Sadly, I didn't see it when it aired (caught it later on streaming) but I saw a Q&A with the cast and creator Sam Esmail who mentioned that USA was fully on board with the retro thing.

That's so weird and creative. Bravo to the writers, never saw that coming. They even got the original Alf voice actor back for what, 2 lines. The green screen driving portion, with the bad lighting and blurred edges, all really captured that 80s feel. The whole thing makes Slater's character seem a bit less malicious now, but I still feel like Elliot is gonna need to let him into the driver's seat to get out of this one. As to the convo in chinese, I'll transcribe what the amazon prime subs say Cisco "Careful man! We kinda need this." Xun "It's been examined and approved" C "told you already, I checked it myself. By not taking my word, he's wasted valuable time"(Xun walks away)"you gotta give me something. C'mon man(good guess there), these are my friends, I don't wanna put them in danger. I want our employer to be happy, but I also need to know what's going on. What were you looking for? Why'd you do this?" back to english and from the Whiterose scene a couple eps back WR "looks like he's opting for his E-coin strategy. He's such a fussy cat. We need to look into our stage 2 schedule." Assistant "6 months, minimum." WR "That will require much patience. And you know how much I detest that.....show me.(looks at tablet) Look into it, we need to know what they know. (holds up earrings) Which one do you like?" A "The right one" WR "what would I do without you?" I'll stay on top of translating as we go forward

2020-12-20 16:52:29 +0000 UTCI'm glad you enjoyed this episode! Yeah, it will be difficult to top that intro! Really increases my respect of this second season. I can't recall if anything that was said in that scene you didn't have subtitles for, so it can't have been that important, but you did well with reading the body language! It was so frustrating at the end where he is about to say "Mr Robot" and the music is coming to a crescendo, but then the episode just ends.

The scenes with Angela did a fantastic job of making me anxious (in fact it is something this show is very good at) - also, who picks up women as their coming out of the bathroom - you’ve been in there a while....

The camera work really builds such tension in those scenes with Angela. I really started to respect her during this episode for having the gall to go through with everything.
