They had superpowers, made a lot of enemies, then lost their superpowers. Presumably a rival civilization wiped them out once they ran out of superpowered soldiers.
2021-05-10 19:36:44 +0000 UTCthe tok'ra said the fall of that civ outdate the goa'uld.. they werent fighting each other. the armband probably treats goa'uld the same as an immune human.

2021-01-06 06:47:47 +0000 UTCHere's my theory off the top of my head. Given that the armbands specifically didn't work for a Goa-uld, Jaffa or Tok-Ra, let's say that whoever they were (kinda forgot if they said who exactly made them in the episode) were fighting the Goa-uld with the armbands, which worked swimmingly...until the armbands stopped working and they were all reduced to normal people who now had a lot of pissed off Goa-ulds out for their blood. You can figure out the rest from there.

2020-12-14 07:30:20 +0000 UTCthere is that possibility for sure. Then again it might be a few days before they start thinking "Apophis ain't shit", and by then the armbands fall off. A goa'uld might even sell it as taking the power away from the shol'va

2020-12-13 21:40:10 +0000 UTCIf this episode reminded you of the one in Farscape where they got the super gauntlets, it is similar, it reminded me of that episode immediately. I think Farscape did it slightly more realistic though, IMO the speed they showed our group to be running at was a bit fantastical. I would have mabye preferred something else like being able to pass through matter, like the Tolan devices. Anyway, two similar episfrom two different shows.

2020-12-13 16:21:47 +0000 UTCIMO the Goa'uld might be worried about giving their subjects too much power, cause ultimately they could use it to rise up or use it against them.

2020-12-13 16:20:14 +0000 UTCThen again we have seen humans serving goa'uld, like the kids back in Rules of Engagement.

2020-12-13 09:55:17 +0000 UTCIt's something that comes up later, but some of the the Tok'ra actually come to fear the idea of taking hosts from Earth because they feel Earth humans are too influential on the symbiotes, compared to humans from more primitive worlds. Such was the influence Jacob Carter had on Sel'mac. They might believe in a more equal blending than the Goa'uld, but some of them do consider themselves to be something of the senior partner in the relationship and enjoy it.

2020-12-13 04:27:15 +0000 UTCExactly, especially in how they talk about human test subjects. Sometimes it sounds like they don't learn from their hosts

2020-12-13 00:30:29 +0000 UTCI too laughed when he pushed the guy over the stairs. This is a fun episode, and they actually accomplished a lot in it, destroying Apophis's new ship. However, this doesn't mean Apophis can't build another one, I mean h must have the plans and all still, would have been more interesting if they stole the plans so he can't build one again. I don't mind them leaving the gauntlets behind, after all even if the Goa'uld got hold of them, they can't use them with their physiology, but in the end, the mountain blew up anyway, so they were destroyed, problem solved. I also have a feeling they are a one time use thing, as they said once you introduce it into the host it uses a virus to work, then spreads an anti-virus to make it stop, once that happens you can never use them again. The steak dinner scene was great.

2020-12-12 23:22:02 +0000 UTCThey might not be evil but they clearly have some personality traits in common with the goa'uld

2020-12-12 21:54:47 +0000 UTCThe Tok'ra really love to switch to their human host, when they like to convince or appologize :D

2020-12-12 18:07:16 +0000 UTCI agree with Daniel on this one - sexy female aliens are nothing but trouble.
Stef Furness
2020-12-12 16:20:33 +0000 UTCThe reason Anise was introduced as opposed to having a Tok'ra we already know come through, was that a studio higher-up insisted the show needed a "sexy female alien".

2020-12-12 14:07:35 +0000 UTCThis is the very first SG1 episode I ever saw. I was channel surfing back in 2001 and I caught it right in the middle. I didn't know who the characters were, or what was going on, and I had no context of the overall show. I just recognized the staff weapons and the stargate itself from the movie and thought "this must be based on that Stargate movie". Then I see people zipping around at supersonic speeds and doing all this crazy superhero stuff and I'm just wondering what the hell is going on. Seemed fun though and when the reruns looped back around to season 1 I was hooked. This is probably in my top 20 SG1 eps. Always a good, fun watch. The armbands were a really unique idea even if they clearly couldn't be permanent. Realistically they really should have brought them back. SG1 could likely never use them again assuming their immunity to the virus was permanent, but even so if the SGC ever comes across a high value target, 3 soldiers with those armbands would be nearly unstoppable. Imagine if they find a landed ha'tak on a planet at some point? Assuming it stays put for several hours they could slap those armbands on an sg team and clear out the ship in probably 20 minutes. If they hadn't wasted so much time on base before going on the mission, they would have been back well before the armbands wore off and pulled it off no problem. Even a few of the base guards who aren't on SG teams could do a lot with a couple days of superpowers. Of course all that would take the action away from SG1. Props to Hammond here as well. The man has an abundance of patience, and I loved the scene where he called the tok'ra on their BS. He's nobody's fool. I always get a laugh out of both "Jack, please, just get the hell out of my office" and "I thought the devices were supposed to enhance them physically, not make them stupid". Teal'c kinda felt left out for most of this episode, only to be the MVP at the end. I love how smugly he says "I have no need to apologize". They're all glancing at him to jump in and say sorry and he's like "the f**k you looking at me for, y'all are the ones who done screwed up". And poor Siler. It's the guys lot in life to get injured almost every time we see him.
Timothy Nikiforovs
2020-12-12 08:13:02 +0000 UTCUnfortunately, it had to be short- lived because if the heroes are too powerful they're more difficult to relate to...but who doesn't like steak and a good pool game?
