your dad is adorable..

I also find this one a bit of a mixed bag. There's a lot of great bits and the ending is funny (Xander's inability to focus on a task saves the day) but I feel there are points where it could have been done a bit better.

EM Jeanmougin

One of my favorite episodes of the season.

Small detail easily missed, but Xander actually called who the killer was on his first try, even if he was joking. And he unintentionally confirmed the theory. Xander Harris, the accidental hero. I always crack up at "You had sex with GILES!?!". Joyce was trying so hard to hide it. Gotta be awkward for Buffy going forward. Not to mention Giles and Joyce. And I guess Nuka Cola Quantum cures unwanted telepathy. The scene in the clock tower always stuck with me, and I'm glad they didn't go for the predictable angle of having Buffy jump him and take the gun by force. The whole commentary on how even people who seem to have it all may be struggling just as much in different ways. It also showed that Buffy still took something away from her stint of telepathy, and understands where people in general are coming from much better now.

This is one of my stand out episodes. I love the issues it tackles including the ongoing issues of mass shootings in America (without that part of the story being corny). I love that it flips it on its head and ends up being a pathetic dinner lady who's easily beaten. I also love the speech from Buffy towards Jonathan. Its a really nice moment and fits so well with the ongoing mental health battles these days. Episodes like this really show how TV viewing has drastically changed in recent times. Like someone already commented its worrying when the "younger" generation react to this episode due to the sensitive nature around the story. I also love that its light hearted at parts as its needed after the past couple of episodes and whats to come

Dad's looking slick

Shared the basic idea with an old X-Men comic, which Joss later wrote for a while.

"Was it a boy demon?!" ๐Ÿคฃ

Honestly I'm 35, and I have never heard it used that way and really thought you were just saying he looked intelligent. lol

It's an older term in US, not many kids use it. But when used, it's pretty self-explanatory, so every people, unfamiliar with the term, understand it.

Buffy was a true hero in this one, saving Jonathan in a non-slayer way here, just talking him out of it. It was a great convo between them, that to me shows me what kind of person she really is, she's a hero even if she didn't have slayer powers. I like the episode for that, plus the topic, I mean it makes sense they might bring this topic up at least once with current events of the time. The twist of the Lunch Lady is just pure Joss Whedon, plus the humor in this was very Joss. They tried to keep it light, even though it's a serious topic.

Do you guys use smart in that way? I'm from UK, and it just occurred to me that might be an English thing. I meant they're spiffy /look good!

Briony Addey

I love the convo between Buffy and Jonathan here. Also loved meeting your watcher! His new glasses are very smart.

This episode has some history. It was scheduled to air a week after Columbine and ended up being postponed by the network for several months for obvious reasons. I love it top to bottom, including the drastic tonal shifts, but Iโ€™m always slightly nervous when younger reactors get to it.
