2020-12-15 07:42:35 +0000 UTCFor anyone who's interested, here's a quick breakdown of the episode that also analyses the lesbian subtext between Buffy and Faith: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9i8TormtuI8&list=PLQ-lwpabT36mJ2ouOJlMS4FM-PC-P8_L2&index=15

2020-11-30 02:43:25 +0000 UTCI mean, evil is in the eye of the beholder, but Giles did say there have been Slayers who killed humans. In a show where entities like Angelus and The First exist, I would not label Faith as evil

2020-11-15 01:50:04 +0000 UTCI don't know if you already know this but the actor who plays Wesley is married to Alyson Hannigan (Willow) in real life, they met through this show and have to little girls together:)

2020-11-14 20:00:49 +0000 UTCYeah I was wondering if you were going to do Angel, and keep them parallel by when they aired next to each other?

2020-11-13 22:39:00 +0000 UTCWhen you see the episode end but there's 7 minutes left in the video, you know it's a good one. OK, so, Wesley is an idiot, but to his credit he did seem to realize he screwed up and made things worse. Faith I don't think is as psychotic/evil as she might seem. Like I've said, she's damaged goods. I get the impression(forget if it's been mentioned or not) that she had a rough growing up experience. Probably real shitty parents, a string of bad boyfriends, etc.... Basically she doesn't trust anyone. She fundamentally doesn't believe in relying on others because in her experience it just leads to loss/betrayal. Gwen Post and the fact she was always on the outside looking in with the Scooby Gang didn't help either. Being a slayer and taking what she wants is the only thing that ever made her feel like she had power in her life, and Buffy and the gang are asking her to trust them and put her future in their hands. She's being asked to trade the only thing that's ever worked for her in exchange for something that's never worked for her. It's a hard ask from where she's standing. I also like your observations about Angel. His character is (thankfully) past the "Romeo" stage(hell, the show even made fun of itself for that a few eps back) and is a much more interesting character at this point. Using his own past and experiences and his guilt over what he did as Angelus to try and pull others out of the dark so to speak is a much better use of the character. I assume you're aware by now of the spinoff series, which you should start parallel to Buffy S4 if you want to keep it chronological. Dude your schedule is gonna be hectic for a while, especially with The Expanse S5 starting up in a month or so. I just keep telling myself at least Merlin, Avatar, and Mr. Robot are only 60 something eps a piece.

2020-11-13 21:15:05 +0000 UTCThere are indicators throughout the show that Joss plans episodes seasons ahead, so I think that the reason Ted ended with a switcharoo, where he wasn't a human was because Buffy dealing with killing an ordinary man would have made this stroyline with Faith come across as repetitive, and caused this one to lose some of it's impact. I don't know if you noticed this, but the cop who questioned Buffy and Faith is the same detective who came to her and her mother both in the episode with Ted, and in Becoming, the episode at the end of Season 2. And also, the member of the Watcher's Council Wesley called, Quinton Travers, is the same bastard who put Buffy through that horrible test with that vamp who used to be a killer before he was turned. I agree, the twists in this episode were amazing, and the fight scenes were extremely well done. This whole episode was great. And the end of the episode, where Faith goes to the mayor for a job was a huge whammy of a twist.

2020-11-13 00:42:13 +0000 UTCSo now we are in it, there's so much going on in this episode one cannot express everything in this limited chat box. I'll just say, fro this episode, it seems Faith has had a dark side this whole time, if you look back at all her actions, there is darkness in there (for reasons), and this was the catalyst that set her off. What a dramatic change, and one not expected. Afterall, we expect the Slayer to be on the side of good, fighting evil, the hero, but this does not seem to be the path for Faith, a Slayer gone to the other side, what a highly interesting topic. It does make me wonder, have there been any other Slayers in the past that went evil, or is this a first.

2020-11-13 00:39:45 +0000 UTCAfter your slight disappointment in the last 10ish mins of Ted, I knew you'd really enjoy this episode because of how it was done.

2020-11-12 15:01:04 +0000 UTCI agree that this is a really good episode. I enjoy all the subtle character moments, like Giles's trust in Buffy being so unshakeable that he knew Faith was lying about Buffy right away, and that Willow figured out Xander had slept with Faith well before everyone else did.

2020-11-12 03:45:22 +0000 UTCThis is such a great episode, so happy you enjoyed it. I knew how much you loved the first half of Ted and couldn’t wait until you made it to this story line to see if you felt satisfied. Enjoying these reactions so much!
