One of the main ongoing plotpoints started in episode 1 has now been concluded: the capture and possession of Skaara and Sha're.

2020-11-26 07:31:39 +0000 UTCI can make an argument. The trial was exceptional. It did many things. First, it showed how we humans contend with the legal system of a foreign culture. Jackson represented our capacity for understanding and respect. Jack represented our inability to sit silently or idly while injustice is being committed, even when that injustice is sanctioned by said legal system. The trial can also be seen as a proxy trial for Roe vs Wade, the abortion decision. Scar'a represents the unwilling mother, probably best understood as a rape victim in this case. Clorel represents the child, existing as a parasite in the body but one which remains a living, sentient being worthy of life.

2020-11-05 03:32:07 +0000 UTCYou've got me really thinking about how much I actually like this episode. Going into it I think I felt it was more of a season highlight than perhaps it really is. I find myself unable to make any real substantial arguments that rate this as a really great episode rather than a pretty ok one. I think a highlight has always been the Cater line. "Ah, pretty fine line you didn't cross." I love that exchange. Sam maybe insinuating that perhaps Lya's position and her actions could be construed as somewhat hypocritical. But Lya seems more than comfortable with her ethics vs her actions. One of my favourite moments from any season. Very memorable.

2020-11-03 18:16:27 +0000 UTCFunny that the first thing you say when they get to Tollana is "it looks like a university", since those scenes were filmed at Simon Fraser University. I'm a bit surprised you thought this was just "ok". Personally I loved this one. The opening shot was excellent, it's great to see the Tollan again and having wasted no time rebuilding, and I always found Zipacna pretty entertaining as goa'uld go(he's such a smarmy bastard). Also there's some redemption for Teal'c here. He's the reason Skaara and Sha're were taken as hosts, and not long ago he had to kill Sha're. Saving the Tollan and in turn ensuring Skaara would be freed was a step toward undoing some of that damage. Also Zipacna's arguments about humans being inferior are rather amusing, and I'm surprised Daniel and O'Neill didn't bring up the Tollan themselves as an argument against it. The Tollan are human themselves, taken from Earth by the goa'uld thousands of years ago. At some point clearly, the goa'uld abandoned them and the Tollan were free to advance. In that time they would have gone from being primitive humans to far surpassing the knowledge and technology of the goa'uld, who seemingly have been fairly stagnant technologically in that time. Anyway, I loved this one. Great to see Skaara again and get some resolution on that, I liked the use of some of the old S1 soundtrack, and overall this episode just tied together a lot of the worldbuilding done in the last 3 years.

2020-11-03 18:12:49 +0000 UTCI like this episode because of the old trope of too much confidence in your technology or whatever, and therefore are arrogant and underprepared for the enemy, the lack of strategy and overconfidence, it's a lesson to learn.

2020-11-03 16:57:19 +0000 UTCNote the gate they built was with the help of the Nox, very important, plus it has a limited range. It's not as full featured as an Ancients gate.

2020-11-03 16:55:18 +0000 UTCLove this episode!
2020-11-03 11:02:19 +0000 UTCLike you said, not one of my favourite episodes but it was good to see so many old allies brought back, and I'm glad they managed to save Skaara after losing Sha'Re "Who would have thought in season1 we'd get here" There are so many moments like that throughout the series and that's what makes it so great.

2020-11-03 06:41:52 +0000 UTCFun fact, the actor playing the Gould's lawyer is from Thunder Bay, Ontario, my home town :) My boy Kevin Durand. I have his autograph. He was also in X-Men Origins Wolverine.
