I was nearly 11. Buffy and Stargate SG:1 were literally among the first shows I remember being interested in that were not just cartoons haha.

Big thumbs up to this reaction. I love that scooby fight too. I love whenever hidden feelings get exposed in a dramatic explosion of emotions.

These kinds of character drama and more groundedness of their relationships (though Buffy also gets it wrong many times throughout its runtime) is part of the reason why I cannot get into many modern shows that's supposed to be stand ins for Buffy's legacy. It is often cheesy writing with cartoony characters that rarely show realness or any vulnerable depth.

Giles is pretty consistently awesome, and his "would you like me to convince you" line always cracks me up.

I've said it many time before, but in a lot of ways this show was ahead of it's time. Also liked the fact that Giles was the only one who knew to give her space and not get in her face about things - even going into the kitchen before showing his emotion - and standing up to Snyder at the end.

Giles hotwires car "like riding a bloody bicycle" Guy must have been quite the hooligan in his youth also it just occurred to me today that since you just turned 23, both SG1 and Buffy would have started the same year you were born. Now I feel old, I was 9 when they started up.

It's that "most girls don't hop a greyhound over boy troubles" that gets me, it's so unnecessarily cruel. She didn't run away because she caught Angel texting another girl, come on.

I never know how to feel about this episode. It's spectacular writing, but I always end up a little mad at the scooby gang for ganging up on Buffy. With perhaps the exception of Buffy's mom, I always felt like the others were being just a wee bit selfish. Willow's dealing with dating, Buffy's dealing with having rammed a sword through her 1st love. Xander's dealing with whatever's going on in his head, Buffy's dealing with knowing she condemned Angle to hell. I think they really should've accepted that she successfully dealt by leaving for a bit. But they are teenagers and I swear I had plenty of these blow outs as a teenager, so the writing is very true to life. That being said, Xander was an a** full stop and had the writing not necessitated it, I think this would've ended his relationship with Buffy.

I felt like the confrontation was a bit too much actually. I think I was so caught by Buffy's clear panic attack, something that felt so unbelievably real (and something I don't believe I've really seen portrayed in that fashion by a TV protagonist, even today) that each person that piled on her while refusing to see her felt needlessly cruel and unhelpful. Willow and Buffy's mom I could understand but then we got Xander, who just comes across as petty every time they put him in that role, and then the scene refused to end and I was ready to runaway myself. Calling out Buffy was great but the fact that it was so one sided and petty left me feeling gross and sad. Like, I'm sorry you've chosen to learn magic and date a werewolf Willow. Come back when your forced to condemn him hell on the same night your mother makes you choose between her love and the life of your friends while the police hunt you for murder. Or atleast ...chill a little once everyone else joins in.

Fully agree with your analysis. I love that the group really hashed everything out, even though I felt the group was really harsh on Buffy as usual. I think the monster of the week being focused on zombies was in reference to Oz's line about not burying things if you cannot deal with them because they will rise back up again. So, even though it was a typical monster of the week, I like that they tied it into the theme of the drama of the episode. I really enjoy Dingoes playing (played by the real band Four Star Mary), too.
