I was blown away when I first watched this episode and I still love it today

2021-05-03 17:57:32 +0000 UTCthis is such a classic episode, just love it, also so many SG episodes around this time started to have callbacks to previous episodes, it really builds on itself

2020-08-26 23:58:45 +0000 UTCHappy Birthday! This episode literally sets the stage for the entire rest of the series and beyond. It may be as foundational an episode as the original movie and pilot were in terms of introduction to the wider Stargate universe and its future.

2020-08-13 20:29:31 +0000 UTCWhat a great reaction. One of my absolute favourites of any series, as Daryl said. Lost count of how many times I've watched it and I still tear up. I'm a sap, but I can't help it. Big things are coming.

2020-08-13 15:41:06 +0000 UTCLol for some reason I haven't been liking posts on patreon, so just went and liked whole of stargate. Been waiting for this reaction for a while and was not disappointed!
2020-08-08 20:48:19 +0000 UTCI thought there was something wrong with my ears! Maybe they wanted to make the voices easier to tell apart or something.

2020-08-08 20:23:44 +0000 UTCThis one is in my top 10 favourite episodes of anything ever. So glad you enjoyed it. As someone has already mentioned. They changed the voice of one of the Asgardians. That really threw me off as I have never seen this version before. Not sure why they changed it, maybe someone else has the answer to that. Looking forward to Ep16, another favourite.
Daryl
2020-08-08 16:38:12 +0000 UTCHappy birthday fellow Leo!! So glad to see you enjoy this iconic episode as much as we do. Jack definitely has an innate wisdom and a way with words that sometimes gets overshadowed by Sam's and Daniel's tech talk. I absolutely love the episodes where his style of diplomacy, and relationship building, shines.

2020-08-08 10:42:22 +0000 UTCSo now you know, there were 4 great races, the Asgard, Furlings, Nox and the Ancients. The Ancients created the Stargates. The 8th chevron takes you to basically another area code, in this case, outside the galaxy to another network of Stargates. We are to come, as the Asgard say, The fifth race, we have taken our first steps. That's incredible. Oh yeah, and a lot more power is needed to dial the 8th chevron. Also important to remember that the Asgard said our brains have not yet developed to the point where it can withhold the knowledge of the Ancients, on an evolutionary scale. We need to evolve more, but they are surprised we are even evolved to the point where we are now. So there is something to do with the evolution of humans and our brains, and the capacity of the Ancients.

2020-08-08 10:40:01 +0000 UTCUm, the show hasn’t revealed the chevron-man’s name yet.

2020-08-08 08:56:38 +0000 UTCHappy birthday my man. This is a great episode, one of those that I always get hyped to watch so seeing you react is a real treat. It's so much fun seeing you guess, get hyped and then get hyped even more when something else happens. Even you reacting to the eigth chevron was amazing. I love the Asgards and there are some incredible episodes later on but knowing what's coming soon and getting to watch you react to that for the first time is making me smile. Keep going and we'll keep watching.

2020-08-08 08:35:54 +0000 UTCHappy Birthday! This is like the first episode in the series, that hints how far and big the Stargate Universe will get. As much as I love the action packed episodes. An episode like this is just amazing as well.

2020-08-08 07:27:12 +0000 UTCHappy birthday! And man, I can't express how much I love this episodes in words. It just embodies all the optimism and potential of the show going forward. Seeing this episode the first time was amazing, and looking back at it after so many years of the show is just as impactful. Poor chevron man really missed out on this one!

2020-08-08 04:59:20 +0000 UTCYou and my dad have the same birthday lol. This episode is definitely one of my favorites of the show, it sets up a ton of stuff for future episodes. The next is also really great.

2020-08-08 03:09:31 +0000 UTCHappy Birthday! And I've been dying for this episode to finally arrive. It's really nice seeing you appreciate the world-building possibilities also! I've seen this episode 100x by now but it still manages to make me teary eyed when Jack meets the Asgard with that majestic ass music. So heartwarming!

2020-08-08 02:41:18 +0000 UTCHey, happy birthday buddy. Enjoy the next seven years. It's all downhill after 30. Couple things to note. First off lot of good calls on your part this episode. Also the dude who had a crush on Carter in Message in a Bottle didn't die after all, don't know if you caught that. Also I don't get why they were being so dramatic about O'Neill not having a GDO. They could have him go to Abydos, or the Tok'ra, or any number of other places and they pick him up there. Lastly they changed the voice of one of the Asgard, sounds like a chipmunk now. You can hear the original toward the end of this video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNh_yNhvXGM In regards to what Jack took out of the staff weapon, my bet is on a liquid naquadah power cell But yeah The Fifth Race is awesome, and it ends up on almost every top 10 episodes list for the series. The next one gets on a few as well. Really unique concept that could probably only be done on stargate. So much world building here. The SG universe feels a whole lot bigger after this episode. O'Neill explaining humanity's position to the asgard is such a legendary scene. Also I can just see it now Sgt Siler "oh hey Walter, how was Mexico" Walter "Awesome!! Got some parasailing in, got a pretty good tan. I love my job but every now and then you just need to get away and relax. Anything interesting happen while I was gone?" Siler "well, Col. O'Neill did get an alien database downloaded into his brain, then he built this weird generator out of a staff weapon power cell, and get this, it overcharges the gate and dials an eighth chevron!!" Walter "EI....EIGHTH!?!?!?" Siler "yeah, apparently that dials another galaxy." Walter "Another gal.....an EIGHTH chevron dials other GALAXIES!!!"(grips the arms of his chair in barely contained rage) Siler "you ok buddy?" Walter "yeah, I ju.....I, I'm absolutely fine, heh, never better" Siler "ok, see you at lunch" Walter "yup.........................FUCK!!!!!!"
