Wow, your reaction to these two episodes was awesome! I don’t think I’ve been that invested or emotional while watching them in years, but seeing you react to everything that was happening on screen really brought it back for me and took me back to all the emotions I felt when I watched them as a teenager so many years ago. I’m a sucker for the romance angle, and Buffy and Angel’s story and their bond is just incredible (particularly for me when I was 16). This 2-parter is seriously one of the best season finales I’ve ever seen on TV… Becoming Part I won an Emmy for Outstanding Musical Composition (the other Emmy the show won was Outstanding Makeup for the episodes Surprise and Innocence). This finale is so well done, and it has everything: suspense, action, comedy, romance, heartbreak… it’s perfect. P.S. Just have to say, I love your R’n’B King assessment of Angel… never thought about him in that way before, but it makes me laugh every time you mention it. Also, calling him Angle instead of Angel is great… especially as back in the early days of online fandom (20 years ago), so many people on the fan websites would accidentally misspell his name as Angle when they were typing :P.

Xander is the worst

I remember watching this as it aired, not knowing if there will another season or when it will be. This was a shock! P.S. I always dislike Xander, but from episode I despised him. Whatever emotional pain Buffy has to go through is partially due to him not telling her that Willow is trying the spell again. If Buffy knew she just has to buy time, I'm sure she would have come up with something to prevent Angelus from pulling out the sword and therefore wouldn't need to send Angel to hell. But Xander is jealous and thinks only of himself.

Scarlett Monrow

"A demon exploded in class and they went to 4th period?" Hahaha exactly. Her message to Buffy, as well as Angel's evil sermons are very cheesy too. Seriously, as a writer, I think Joss is overrated. Before y'all call me a troll and sacrifice me to Acathala, I'm talking specifically about part 1 (part 2 is much more solidly written). Besides the aforementioned campy dialogue, the fact that Angel fell in love with a 15 year old girl he had only just seen and we're supposed to think it's cute is the creepiest thing on the entire series.

after all these years, that final scene between Buffy and Angel still makes me ugly cry! I agree with you: stellar performances from Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Boreanaz. I'm still pissed to this day at Xander for not telling Buffy about what Willow was trying to do so she could have been better prepared for what she had to do, but I guess it made for a more emotional impact later on. thanks for another amazing reaction! on to season 3!

The song at the end is very beautiful indeed! It is Full of Grace by Sarah Mchlachlan :)

Back in the comments for Bad Eggs, I mentioned I thought that episode ultimately provided two purposes for the remainder of the season. One was putting the Buffy/Angel relationship front and center up in our faces with the consequences of sex story line to set up Surprise/Innocence. Now I can say the second one and that was to show and get the audience prepped mentally to see that when the slayer and a vampire have common ground they can potentially work together. In Bad Eggs it was Lyle Gorch fighting by her side, however so briefly. But I feel like that sets us up, along with all the in-fighting and tension shown between Spike and Angel, for Spike to go fight by Buffy's side and it doesn't seem so out of place to the audience since we've seen it before. This was a great reaction, and I really appreciate that you did both episodes at once. That was a great treat. Also, the song at the end was by Sarah McLachlan, in case you didn't know. I couldn't tell by your reaction. You said the music was great, but didn't indicate you recognized it. Anyway, she was very big in the 90s.

Katherine Thoreson

Yeah, I wondered if he missed that. Xander's lie...if he had told Buffy the truth, things may have gone very differently, and Buffy might not have had to kill him. I don't blame Faily if he did miss it, there was a hell of a lot going on.

Raven Dark

Thank you so much for doing both parts at the same time! Spike and Buffy was the team-up I never knew I wanted until it happened. I think my only gripe in the episode is that Spike appears to choke Dru until she faints, which doesn't make much sense since vampires don't breathe, but I'll let that one go. One of my favorite scenes in the whole show is when Spike and Joyce are just sitting awkwardly in the living room, not sure what to say to each other. I agree about this one being a lot like a movie. There's lots of good twists and turns and tons of callbacks to earlier episodes. Like when Miss Calender is trying to restore Angel's soul, she gets an orb from a magic shop and the guy says the only way he's been able to move them is by selling them is to new age yuppies as paper weights. Then when Willow says she needs an orb, Giles tells her he has one and that he's been using it as a paper weight. Also we finally see what it really means for Dru to be at full strength (as opposed to early season 2 Dru); she's got a sort of mind control thing she uses both against Kendra and Giles. Even the police officers from Ted came back for a cameo. It really does a good job tying the story together and makes the earlier parts of the show seem worth watching (even though some of them aren't as strong).

Loved your reaction! This finale is one of my most fave TV show finales ever! (and my favourite finale to any season ever is also from Buffy lol) One thing you missed (which is okay, there was a lot going on) is that Willow told Xander to tell Buffy that she was going to restore Angel's soul but Xander says "Willow wanted me to tell you to kick his ass". So, he just didn't want to tell Buffy that they are retrying. Pretty scummy of him.

Can u make a third google drive link please?

I'm super excited this was a 2 parter, thank you!!!!! Awesome reaction, so glad you are enjoying it as much as we all do. Onwards to season 3!!!

Candice

you know there's 1 stupid thing here. Buffy has Kendra stay back because she wants her to protect the gang in case theyre attacked, and sure enough that's what happened, but if they're concerned about security, why not just go to Giles house (so they don't have to explain that they're just playing Magic The Gathering to anyone's parents) to do the curse? Vampires can't enter a home without an invite. That whole ambush could have been avoided. Spike is such a hard character to pin down. He's not exactly chaotic neutral, as he certainly can be evil, but he seems to lean that way. Also I feel like he's got a soft spot for Joyce, like he genuinely likes/respects her a little bit. Probably looked back on her clobbering him with that axe and thought it was ballsy. Either way the guy is one of the more entertaining characters on the show. And yeah, it would have been a lot easier on Buffy had Willow not succeeded. Her wanting alone time after that and losing pretty much everything else makes a lot of sense.

Lol - when Giles popped off and you had to take a moment

Chris

Failwhale, this is why I am a Patreon. This was a stellar reaction! Loved all your comments and reactions. Lol'd at "bars" and your funny comments. Teared up with you each time and I always cry whenever Buffy kills Angel at the end. These episodes are some of my favorites. YES! James Marsters and SMG have insane chemistry. Well, I feel both are just incredible actors so they have great chemistry with everyone.

Ashley

When the video runs longer than an hour, you need to download the file. On the dropbox page, click the downward pointing arrow in the upper right corner to download. Hope this helps.

Tumbili

Am I doing something wrong? The dropbox link is only an hour long and has only the first few minutes of the second episode of the finale.

Becky Gilreath

Ditto. “Have you tried not being the Slayer?” is priceless to me! And Failwhale, every single one of your quips, comments, and insights throughout the reaction was outstanding!

Tumbili

I bought this 2 parter on VHS (The Becoming), must have watched it so many times, lol Loved Joyce reacting to Buffy 'coming out' as the slayer - Are you sure your the slayer? Have you tried not being the slayer? Is it because of the lack of a strong father figure? - considering how off Xander's gay panic was earlier in the season, they managed to nail this moment.

Chris

Been waiting for this one, certainly in my top 5 ever! This is when the show went from great tv to amazing! The ending is so poetic and I remember watching it over and over as a teen :)

Yep, an incredible episode and incredible final.

Salv Mancuso

Yoooo its both? Yassss

Bisibia
