I feel this is a bit of a rehash of previous plot points with the Nox "we're advanced but don't know what to do, guess we'll bury the gate" and the Asgard "let's protect you, but also pretend to be gods and hide our real forms". The rest of the season onwards is gold though. More so than season 1, this season introduces so much for the rest of the show, I feel here is where SG1 got into its stride

2020-07-29 02:24:59 +0000 UTCThis episode has another example of an ongoing issue with scene layout on the show. At the start they get the message that the team is returning before we see the wormhole established, and therefore communication would be impossible. Happens like 100 times on the show. Not one of my favourite episodes, but not bad either. Tonane was a really fun character, Carter got to take the lead for a change, and we get some more world building. Also cool to see Cpt Connor back from the S1 episode The First Commandment. Also I love the exchange where Daniel and Jack are like "Jack? Are you you?", "yeah, you?", "what?", "....nevermind". So many shows structure dialogue in such a rigid and planned way that it doesn't feel true to life. SG1 lets it's characters sound like confused goofballs enough that they feel real and relatable. Lastly, the Salish indians are actually native to a part of BC close to where the show was filmed, so that's kinda meta.

2020-07-29 00:06:54 +0000 UTCwell to be fair that's usually the case in trek as well, major exception being the prophets, but even they are considered "wormhole aliens" by most. Closest comparison to this episode would be Chakotay's "sky people", which is pretty much the same concept.

2020-07-28 23:40:12 +0000 UTCShe's adorable but apparently was very uncooperative and would only play her part when the director made a strange alien buzzing sound and spaceship motion with his hand. Haha!

2020-07-28 13:20:43 +0000 UTCThis episode was similar to the one with the Nox: SG-1 patronizes a an ostensibly naïve culture only to have the tables turned when it’s learned there is far more to these simple people than meets the eye. It has a deliberately light, comedic aspect best appreciated by those of us who have fallen in love with the show. I find it very enjoyable. I really like the scene with the wolf stationed in front of the Stargate and the banter between Jack and Daniel is priceless. Hammond’s attitude is at first disturbing. Usually he grumbles: “I completely agree about the impropriety of this mission, but I have no choice. I’ve been given my orders.” Here he alludes to that pressure, but it isn’t given much emphasis. I think by now Hammond has earned the benefit of the doubt. Two reactions a week? You’re a godsend, McWhaley! Chevron Seven locked! Let’s go!!!

2020-07-28 11:58:59 +0000 UTCTonane cracks me up everytime I see this episode, especially the "one day Xels just said "call my name!" so that's what we do." part.

2020-07-28 11:00:25 +0000 UTCOne thing I really like is the Aliens make it clear they took on the forms of the Spirits and were not actually the Spirits. Star Trek could certainly learn a thing or two from this episode.
2020-07-28 08:35:40 +0000 UTCCheesy but fun ep

2020-07-28 08:35:11 +0000 UTC😊 you got Spirits posted just in the nick of time for my birthday!! And seeing as I'm now 36, getting #36 posted later this week will be the icing on my cake. I've always loved the Spirits episode. When he asks to go home so plainly, my heart breaks every time.

2020-07-28 06:09:16 +0000 UTCI like this episode! it's a little silly but Rodney A Grant's humour is spot on, and the SGC learns some valuable lessons about taking advantage of other cultures. Given how the US works, it was definitively a lesson they needed to learn the hard way.

2020-07-28 05:21:56 +0000 UTCI hope it isn't bad form to give a shoutout to another reactor, but apparently they're friends. JV's Galactic Adventures just started reacting to the show too so let's support them both if we can.

2020-07-28 05:09:40 +0000 UTCDefinitely digging it! Your Stargate reactions are what I look forward to most on your Patreon. Might have to unsub/resub every so often and binge later, but with virtually no other Stargate reactors out there, just want to say thanks! :)
