2020-07-23 07:51:30 +0000 UTCI agree with Timothy about Jacob... Also, the whole "I don't want my (insert family member) to see me like this" is an EXTREMELY common sentiment for people dying to have. It doesn't matter the gender of the person. Oh, and I'm not sure why you didn't like him to begin with. I mean, he watched his daughter growing up wanting to be an astronaut. Then, because of a disaster she couldn't become one, and instead got a desk job in an office. As any good parent does, he wants his daughter to be happy, which as far as he knows means her becoming an astronaut and fulfilling her dream. But to his shock, she refuses, but won't say why. Seems perfectly natural for him to be curious about what Sam is doing (not to mention that any good parent should want to know what their children are doing).

2020-07-21 06:07:01 +0000 UTCThe introduction of the Tok'Ra was possibly the biggest world building event of S2. They're kinda assholes, and frankly that never changes(though a few like Martouf are pretty decent), but they're still good guys, and real allies were sorely needed at this point. I mean it's nice that the dudes from the land of light are offering the SGC a witness protection program kind of thing, but it's not like they're gonna turn the tide of a war. Speaking of Martouf a lot of fans back in the day used to call him Martooth, because clearly the tok'ra have a bitchin dental plan. I don't get why the Tok'Ra weren't all over the idea of an alliance. If their numbers are so few and hard to replenish, surely they're very apprehensive about actually going into battle. There must be a ton of great targets that they had to pass on because the losses they would suffer would hurt them more than the goa'uld. The US military doesn't like to lose people either, but it CAN lose people without bringing the human race closer to extinction. It would make perfect sense for the tok'ra provide intel on where to hit the system lords and let the tau'ri do the heavy lifting. It boggles my mind that O'Neill is just casually discussing an armed breakout with potential tok'ra casualties involved with like 6 tok'ra guarding the room within earshot. Seems like that would be something you'd keep on the down low. I also think you seriously misjudged Jacob earlier on. I never saw him as manipulative or "toxically masculine". Yeah early on he's a bit of an ass at times but nobody is perfect. Not showing weakness is just a thing guys and soldiers do, and that'll never change, and it never should change frankly. Now granted there's a time and a place, and if you're clearly dying it's time to say goodbye to your kid, but like Hammond said, Sam isn't much different than her father, meaning Hammond saw right through her excuses for not seeing him, being that she didn't want him to see her distraught over his condition either. Even when he was pulling strings without consulting Sam, he was clearly just trying to ensure she had the best future possible. When he said "who am I gonna tell, God?" he was clearly just saying he'd like to die knowing Sam is doing something important and not some desk job working on satellites. Like a peace of mind kind of thing. Jacob is a good guy, just not the best with people/emotions. Some people are just like that. And yes, Hammond once again demonstrates why he's such a great general. He sees his people as people. Overall it's a huge episode for developing the series, though when you see some of the later 2 parters in the series, you'll kinda look back at this one and realize they were still working with a more limited budget. Still, some of the best episodes of TV were done to save money(see Measure of a Man on TNG), so that's not always a bad thing.

2020-07-20 14:12:31 +0000 UTCHoly Hannah, did I have the biggest crush on Martouf when I first watched this series! Ha! Thank you so much for posting the 2-parter back-to-back. I've been waiting all month for your reaction to this one and was happy to hear you talk a little bit more on your thoughts at the end - no need to apologize for that ever. It is telling of the showrunners how rich these episodes are with next to no action, as Phil stated above, and is probably a good reason Jack's attitude is increasingly snarky. = ) You are well over half way through the first 50 episodes and the story only gets better! <3

2020-07-20 14:01:07 +0000 UTCNice, 2 part upload for a 2 part episode. Gonna watch when I get home from work.

2020-07-20 10:55:41 +0000 UTCI dunno about that. Ra was pretty certain the nuke in the movie would set off the naquadah he was sending back, and the gate is also made of naquadah, plus there's the goa'uld buster missiles from the season premier. Building nukes would be childs play to the goauld.

2020-07-20 10:54:12 +0000 UTCTheoretically it IS possible to destroy a Stargate, but most likely the Goa'uld are technologically too primitive to have the means to do so

2020-07-20 09:46:58 +0000 UTCStargate is just so good in giving us amazing episodes that aren't even that actionpacked. Such an amazing two-parter! Also Jakop is one of my favorite side-ish characters in SG-1.

2020-07-20 08:22:06 +0000 UTCBoth parts! What a treat! I've said it before but I don't think any other show has such a natural expansion as SG. The way the worldbuilding gradually gets deeper and bigger is perfectly done.
